Here's a Pokemon Game Theory: Do Mythical Pokemon give us hints to where the next games will take place? Or what the story or gimmick of the next game might be? Do Mythical Pokemon foreshadow the next generation? Perhaps! A quick example: Volcanion references volcanos, and Hoopa makes wormholes, then Pokemon Sun and Moon take place on volcanic islands and are about Ultra Wormholes! This idea may apply to most of the Mythical Pokemon: Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxsys, Manaphy, Phione, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Keldeo, Meloetta, Genesect, Diancie, Hoopa, Volcanion, Magearna, Marshadow, Zeraora, Meltan and Melmetal. But then, what can Zarude possibly be hinting at with gen 9?

There is also a numbered-theme going on with the main mythical of each generation too. Mew 1 tail, Celebi 2 antennae, Jirachi 3 wishtags, Manaphy 4 yellow eye lashes, Victini has a V for roman numeral 5, Diancie has 6 head crystals, Magearna 7 tips of its dial, Zarude 8 arm bangles

Lockstin, I was thinking about it, and maybe others have realized it too, but Urshifu's single strike and rapid strike styles were a huge hint at Legends: Arceus's strong style and agile style. Also, Urshifu 99.99% being a Sinnoh mon originally. It ties together.

@@Brass319 getting a feeling Gen 9 is a soft reboot for a lot of plot stuff, so I wouldnt be surprised if it breaks a lot of previous fan theories or cycles. Very very excited tho to see what lore bleeds into it from previous gens.

As of Mew being a gen 2 tease, I propose the following: Gen 1 was all about catching the 150 first Pokémon. Mew being a "secret" number 151 could be a tease of a "bigger" world with even more new Pokémon to be discovered.

Cool theory but what's been revealed to the public is that Mew was a late addition made by one of the programmers without asking anybody. And since "Mewtwo" is a play on "mutant" I even think there wasn't even intent to make Mew a real pokemon. Like they came up with the cool name Mewtwo, than laughed how it sounds like Mew-2, like if Mew was a thing, and than one of the developers were thinking like: "wait, we can make Mew a thing..."

The current storyline follows that mewtwo was created from a fossil of Mew because it was believed that Mew was extinct, so mewtwo was technically discovered before Mew was discovered to still be in existence, hence how Mew came after mewtwo.

@@IJC039 The connection I see Zarude having is the Amazon rainforest, which is in Brazil. The main language of Brazil is Portuguese and it has a lot of connections to both Spain and Portugal.

Watching this after Scarlet/Violet... There's Tagtree Thicket, is the closest thing we got to a "Jungle/Forest~" that Zarude could be from(?) Could be why it's so evil and territorial, Grafaiai keep painting it?

It’s possible the theory with Zarude COULD still be somewhat plausible since there’s actually some pretty big forests in Spain. Zarude’s control over plant matter could also allude to a potential plot point or legendary Pokémon that will appear in the next gen.

I definitely agree with the gen 6 mythicals. The game was already hinting at Alola because it had the relic thing from another region (don't quite remember what it's called) that turned out to be from alola. Also, weird side note, the NPC who gives you it talks about his region's pokemon champion, but alola didn't have a champion yet, because Sun and Moon take place after X and Y (we even meet characters from X&Y in them). I'd mostly chalk this up to them not having the story down fully

I got an interesting argument for why Zarude points more to South America than India: one of the recurring plots of the current season of the anime is Ash's companion Go trying to join an operation called Project Mew, which as the name implies is an expedition effort to look for Mew, and where does Mew lore say it was sighted in gen 1? Using this idea, and how the Pokedex is going to work in legends, and the mythical Pokemon could symbolize evolution of man, it honestly really fits for Pokemon Arceus too instead of straight up gen 9. Maybe that's why they haven't released more because they are waiting to see if gen 9 will be like the previous Pokemon games or like the new Legends game?

I like how this both seems perfectly reasonable AND also seems like an insane conspiracy theory, at the same time. Lmao. I think you're probably onto something in general, but it might not even be intentional. Like, they probably design new mythical pokemon at the same time as they begin the process of brainstorming for the next region. So, it might be a total coincidence that mythicals happen to have a similar theme to the following game, if you get what I mean.

Great Idea! I had similar one but not quite the same: they make mythical pokemon to suit the next region because mythicals are distributed late when everyone have already completed the game so they box them and than use in the next generation. But now my theory is falling apart

Thing is Nintendo has stated they use designs in future generations that they designed during past generations. Tirtouga is a Gen 5 pokemon, but pretty sure Nintendo said the original design came from a discarded Gen 1 design. So it’s not like this theory that designs are in some way linked should even be a surprise. Nintendo already said they revisit design concepts they made up during previous Generations

Magerna was created before gen 7. It had its own movie in Gen 6, but wasn’t added to the Pokédex and games until Gen 7, it also was in the the XY TCG. So the Flora cannon would make sense to write off as Gen 6. So you can remove the issue with France with that.

Adding to the Sinnoh mythical ideas, Darkrai / Cresselia have their own event in Unova and Arceus rules/ruled Dialga Palkia and Giratina, those three representing the three common states of matter, solid liquid and gas respectively. Arceus would then tie it up to the fourth state, Plasma - remind you of anything from Unova?

I honestly don't consider Plasma as a state of matter of its own but a "sub-state" of the gaseous one(its gas with free-flowing electrons) So I think there are still only 3 states of matter.

For Gen 3, their promotional material for gen 4 started very early and was very heavy handed. Munchlax, Bonsly, and Mime jr I think even showed up in the anime and all appeared in the spinoffs. Especially prominent was Lucario, who was treated like a mythical pokemon in the anime and spinoffs.

There is of course the theory that Magearna was intended to be a gen 6 Mythical Pokemon, rather than a gen 7 one. Since it was in the Volcanion movie and all, and has those French references. I didn't touch on it in the video because that'd be a theory on top of a theory, and also it doesn't support it. 🙃 Magearna is after Necrozma in the dex, it's a gen 7 mythical. Legendaries and mythicals cross generations in movies all the time. Hoopa's, Genesect's, Zeraora's and Marshadow's movies for instance.

Not entirely. the Brazilian language is a dialect of Portuguese, and Ecuador is a Spanish-speaking country. Granted, India didn't do so well but in a sense, the others weren't far off at all

Wait, with the Oranges and Grapes in gen 9, Calyrex represents fruit, very strongly, for barely any reason. I know its a legendary, but still. Also maybe royalty will be a big deal in Scarlet and Violet. Maybe Zarude was referencing Legends Arceus "surviving in the wild" thing you mentioned? (I know spain is also the only european country with monkeys, just adding more ideas.)

should mention Meloetta's relic song tale mentions how it lost it's slippers, similar to the fairy tale of Cinderella where a girl loses her slippers upon a magical spell being undone, and even the prince forgets her identity until he uses the slipper to find her. This fairy tail originates from Europe and the popular Disney adaptation portrays Cinderella specifically as a french girl and taking place in France, thus referring back to Kalos and not to mention Disney films are known for using singing and dancing i.e Aria and Pirouette forms

The first one did show a Donphan performing a Rollout, and both Lucario and Zoroark starred in their own respective movies before their games were officially released. The anime did show off a lot of later-gen Pokémon when the next one is on the horizon such as the trainer Harrison near the end of the Johto-arc, May owning a Munchlax, and a Weavile appearing on the opening of _Advanced Battle._ I don't count Misty's Togepi or Ho-oh as some Gen-II Pokémon were originally in the Gen-I roster before their removal.

What if I told You if Gen 9 will have a tropical region since zarude is a mandrill and apes are usually seen in jungles and and will be based on a tropical country or states, and the movie in which zarude appear in is called pokémon the secret of the jungles, perhaps india since india is referenced so many times in Pokémon and there’s an indian elephant pokemon in Pokémon Sword and Shield and zarude raising koko could also reference the jungle book, a movie about a bear and a panther raising a human child, india is also somewhat tropical, so makes sense right ? There’s also a rumor that there’s going to be another mythical pokemon based on a tiger who is going to be the predators of zarude and shere khan is a tiger and the main antagonist of the jungle book, a movie taken place in india. And tigers and apes are rivals, zarude is great, zarude is now my favorite mythical pokémon.

I just realized Zarude probably hints and Legends: Arceus. It’s glowing red eyes, and aggressive demeanor remind me of alpha pokemon, while it being a pack creature from a land that seems to lack a high density of humans fits with Hisui. That must mean the new legendary in Legend: Arceus must be hinting at the next game. I wonder what it could be? 🧐

You know I never thought of Zeraora as the "Za-Yellow" many were anticipating after Za Cyan & Za Magenta from Galar, but if the Furry Fox was leading into the next gen it does fit that pattern! Zeraora, Zacian, Zamazenta as the primary colors, hey there they are! Ze Ora! Zarude muddles the pattern but also could be intentionally different as an indicator for the next gen! This is such a smart way to understand the designs and also very fun. Thanks for this!

cmyk is the colour system used on most printers, meaning cyan magenta yellow black. Zacian is cyan, Zamazenta is magenta, Zeraora is yellow, and Zarude could mean black as it has alot of the colour black on it. If he talks about this in the video i wouldn't know because i havent watched it yet

Just thinking on retrospect, The DLC legendaries might hint at their future titles as well. The Urshufus seem to point to the fighting styles of Legends Arceus, being agile styles and strong style. The new regis seem to be hinted at a return to sinnoh but with a twist, they intentionally included Regigigas even though he would pop back up. As for Calyrex, maybe hinting at finding out something ancient and long forgotten. Maybe again, Legends Arceus. As for the Birds, maybe about how Hisui is savage and terrifying and Pokemon people knew would be a lot more vicious due to the harsher environment. In fact they're the only roaming pokemon you have to chase, and may be referencing PLA catching mechanics. This is just my speculation though

Calyrex is actually Easy - it hinted at the New forms for the creation trio and whole legends arceus. Like palkia now Having hooves - fusion. Also calyrex theme was a remix of dialga/palkia theme u can clearly hear it. By the lore calyrex was forgot by the People that lives in a snowy area - almigthy sinnoh refrence.

I like the idea that Mew was the "new species" pokemon in the pokedex in red and blue. Mews foreshadowing was simply that of the addition of new pokemon. Mew was proof that a sequel WAS happening.

I don't think so. It was unveiled that Mew was a late addition made buy the programmer without asking anyone and it wasn't planned to be in the game. I even think Mewtwo was created without an original counterpart in mind cos it's name seems to be just a play on "mutant" that sounded high tech without any intent of making Mew a thing.

Come to think of it, Ecuador would be the perfect place to base a newpokemon generation. This is because in Ecuador has a ton of diferent weather around the country. The region "sierra" is a cold snowy region and the "costa" has a hot weather and is connected to the sea, and therefore has beaches. And as you said, the Galapagos islands are there and one of the regions of ecuador, the "amazonas" is mainly know for being part of the gigatic rain forests that are in Latino America. This could open the possibility for a pokemon game with a snowy area, a beach summer area, a volcanic area (galapagos) and a forest area.

I've always found Celebi reminds me of the lake guardians from gen 4, which is to say it's reasonable to argue that the mythical pokemon are a good indication of what GameFreak wants to explore for future games, and thus the early ones of Celebi and Mew you see connected to future games, while the later mythical pokemon not only indicate what the company wants to explore but also specific themes around new games.

There's also The Jungle Book a story of Mowgli, a child that was raised by animals and that takes place in India, the movie of Zarude is based on the story of a kid that was raised by Zarude, (pokemons like Sinistea and Cufant are good exemples of this). This could also be a reference to Tarzan, that was raised by apes like Zarude, this story takes place on west Africa, another place that is on a new continent and that was colonized by Europeans (British colonized Nigeria)(In Galar we can see Rillaboom, a gorrila pokemon that uses a percussion instrument that looks like a Djambe, a west african instrument).

But... Evolution was in the games before Deoxys or Sinnoh. That's not really foreshadowing to any other region it's mainly just acknowledging evolution as a feature. But I kinda don't think that was intentional, after all, DNA has a million other connections that aren't just evolution, and I think it'd make more sense for a pokemon whose origin revolves around evolution to be one that... ya know, evolves.

@@esaliikka3168 Urshifu is the Wushu (Kung Fu) Pokemon, Kung Fu originating from China. This is why the dex entries also reference it coming from a far away land. I think it's highly unlikely we'll see a China-based region, given it's historical and present hostilities with Japan.

Jirachi has a lot of Japanese culture inspiration, meaning staying in Japan possibly. And space is sometimes called the heavens and full of celestial bodies, hence the celestial creator trio and Arceus lord of the heavens and all underneath. Also while not technically mythicals, Calyres and Khubfu could point to gen 9 too, possibly China or India

Zarude's coloration is very similar to that of Okidogi, there's that. They even match the Zarude's scarf in the movie. There is a picture of Zarude that is 100% match with Okidogi's pose in the official artwork.

In response to the recent trailer of gen 9. I quoted Bulbapedia's observation on the inspiration for Zarude's design and mannerism "The use of vines to swing through trees is also reminiscent of how spider monkeys use their prehensile tails." Wouldn't you know it, spider monkeys are native to South America (around Brazil). AND, this is probably a massive stretch, but the Iberian peninsula countries (Spain and Portugal) that gen 9 is probably inspired from, has extensive history with "exploring" (which is also going to be a theme in gen 9, just look at the trailer and the "open world" statement on the web) the South American countries. big stretch, but hey. In the trailer there were a lot of gold also which could be a reference to the mythical "El Dorado" usually linked to South America that the Spanish and Portuguese were particularly fond of.

14:07 : When it comes to Darkrais whole dream aspect, I immediately thought of Manifest Destiny. The "dream" of many early Americans that moving west would lead to better lives. And to tie into the dark aspect, Manifest Destiny wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Many people died on pilgrimages heading west. Pretty dark if you ask me. Edit: I completely forgot that New York was an early settlement, and was a big factor in the Manifest Destiny movement. Unova is based on New York. Neat.

@Trey is not a normal name I had no intentions on sounded complacent to the pain and suffering natives went through. I'm descended from natives, so if anything I would never want to do that. I apologize if that's how it came across. Yes, the Manifest Destiny movement caused many native deaths. With that aside, both sides of it add more to the theory.

I think marshadow is a reference to darkest day where darkness consumed galar and seeing how it’s a dark type it kinda matches

You put up a good effort with Zarude, but I think it either vaguely hints to a DLC or possibly something within the new Sinnoh games, or it hints to day of the dead in Spain, with its skeletal design. You know who definitely hints toward Spain… Calyrex. His crown resembles an old Spanish crown more than anything, and even his big collar looks a lot like old-time Spanish royal collars. Plus there have been many notable times Spanish warriors went into combat while mounted on a horse. The different forms of Calyrex’s steed may also represent something but I haven’t thought about them as much. Oh, also Articuno looks a bit like it’s wearing a mask for a masquerade. So yeah. Your theory holds up, you just need to include the possibility that they aren’t necessarily hinting to a new region, but a new experience in a Pokémon game soon to come up. Like how Urshifu literally uses strong or agile styles from Legends Arceus. Overall great theory 😁

He (or at least his editor) does know about it, a little sad Canada flag appears at the bottom of the screen when he says the Thanksgiving thing. I understand why you wouldn't notice though as it is a very subtle detail. (I didn't notice it either and had commented about his mention of Thanksgiving as well before noticing)

For Gen 5, not only do you have Keldeo foreshadowing Kalos as a mythical, but also its legendaries the Swords of Justice. Not only that, but you also have the gen 5 legendary genies foreshadowing Hoopa as the gen 6 mythical too.

I reckon gen 9 will be in Australia, with my small knowledge even though I live in Australia, the aborigines take care of their land by protecting it, sort of like how zarude protected the tree in the movie. Regarding the way humans attacked the zarude is sorta like how England tried to take over Australia. I reckon it adds ups pretty much and is a good candidate, now we just gotta wait for more mythical.

Oh i thought you also talk about zarude in the movie. In the movie, our zarude protagonists is brought from the future as an egg by celebi isnt? But This also the plot in legend arceus 😂 Maybe gen 9 have gimmic to travel through time? Will be amazing 😂 and i agree zarude is feels like indian culture, with that bangle and name, but the region will also have huge rainforest

As a dutch person, I just can’t get over his pronunciation- it’s too hilarious. “Vrijheid” is actually pronounced vryhyt, or vraihait. It’s difficult to imagine with english tones, but this is about it.

Yeah, words are hard to get when you don't have a real reference point on how to pronounce them. This is on of the reasons it's easier to learn a laugh when you are surrounded by people who speak it even if no one teaches you directly.

Don't know if this has been said yet but Mew is known as the "New Species" Pokémon. So that could be a hint and nod to Gen 2 as well indicating that new species of Pokémon are always being discovered.

With the introduction of Scarlet/Crimson the jungle theory still makes sense! Spain does have tropical forests in the Canary Islands, and there's also the Gibralter nature preserve's wild macaque (Jungle Healing, nature preserve).

+Legoluigi26 Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos and Galar all focus on the past too. You can cherry pick any aspect of anything and connect it to any aspect of another thing if you really want to. Example: Victini is a Yellow-ish Pokémon and it's the number 000 in the Unova dex, which is often regarded as a homage to gen 1. Therefor, Victini was actually made for gen 1 but cartridge size limitations blah blah blah so they went with Pikachu and a story based on the anime instead.

thinking about it mew might foreshadow just future Pokémon in general. it is number 151 afterall. an extra number tacked to the end of a respectible 150. even after it's clone... as if they where saying "hey, this thing's out there, it doesn't really belong there's more to come!

Galapagos might be the best idea for a region I’ve heard, there could be so many different forms in one place (multiple regional variants in one region?). I think an Amazon type region would be cool, but could be similar to hoenn. If they did a region based on east, they could have rainforests, deserts, grasslands, and city environments, plus just think of the variety of wildlife there. Zarude looks too much like a spider monkey IMO though so I’m guessing Amazon/Galapagos.

Also, fun fact. Mega Mewtwo Y was shown in the Genesect movie. But Megas and Gen 6 weren’t confirmed by the Pokémon company yet. Which gives Genesect more of a reason to hint at Gen 6.
