Mega Evolution is the best "gimmick" because it wasn't a gimmick, it felt a very natural next step for Pokémon. Essentially just doing a fourth evolution, new designs, types, and utility. Every other gimmick just felt watered down and lesser in my opinion. Tera gives you just the new type, Z-Moves gives you one special move. As for the lore, I'm sorry but I genuinely can't bring myself to care about dex entry that says "Mega make big sad" if it means I get to use a mechanic I enjoy. Z-Moves, Gigantmax, and Teras are just boring to me and I'd rather just see new Megas in each generation.

Puka finally evolved from Pikachu to Alolan Raichu! I indeed purposely nickname him Puka for that very reason when i saw the trailer for Sun and Moon. NOT EVEN DISAPPOINTED, possibly the best cannon or references from older games and anime? Yes. The answer is definitely a yes for me. The best design choice was how Raichu fur seems to be tan from the sun while surfing? Could it have that trigger for its passion to evolve into this form? That's my simple theory anyway. It should've evolved with a Sun Stone or Water Stone for that reason, despite it being a Electric and Psychic Type! It could've be evolved from using a Shiny Stone or High Special Attack/Defenses or Evasion/Speed/Accuracy for required evolution.

Imo, I felt like mega evolution was the most logical. How is making them giant or rocks better? I can get behind the z moves, however I haven't really experienced it much.. but that also feels like it fits and makes sense. I think having both added permanently, at the times they came out, it could have evolved pokemon all together.

The amount of reuse for the video content made my head spin. There's only so many times one can watch a 4 second clip from an FMV before you go crazy.
