Yes, it's easy to grow in the soil and climate and three harvests can be made in a season based on the variety and planting. It's a stereotype but probably no worse than Wisconsin is known for dairy.

Or that one of the reasons behind the Great Irish Famine of the 1850's was potato blight and that famine changed the course of the history of Ireland. So, yes that book on potato is important for history purposes.

Why is the potato book funny? Because it's, like, with farmers and stuff? The potato has toppled Chinese Emperors, changed the physical geography of China, fundamentally influenced the history of Europe, and paved the way for industrial-scale pesticide use. It has changed much more of human history and ecological systems than any general or leader figure. That humans were the seed propagators does not give them much more choice than honey bees. If you are getting interested, Charles Mann's 1493 has a very gripping rendition of the mighty potato's tale.

I remember when the "Pop-topping" thing was happening. Late 60s early seventies. The Pittsburgh Brewing Company introduced the easy open cans with the removable pop-top in 1965. Before then people used can openers. The pop-tops negated the need for one. But by 1975 the pop-tops were being replaced by the stay-in-place variety because of the litter the pop-tops produced which some people tried to remedy by putting the tab in their can an sometimes would end up inhaling or swallowing the tab. They should have read "Pop-Topping" and made a belt or a vest or something! A lot safer. :)

The microwave one is more interesting than you think, it’s from when microwaves were first invented, and people would cook actual, full meals in them, like it was a mini oven. That one is just geared towards men for some reason. I highly recommend looking at old microwave cookbooks, so weird and interesting.
