I just read boy’s abyss a few days ago and it’s rare for to find a story that has as much depth within the characters. Most of their motivations are mainly told through subtext and not actual dialogue. It is well worth the read

Out of context but I recommend you read interview of fujimoto and samura(blade of immortal), I am sure you will like it. Also I recommend you to read sentai daishikkaku, it has fujimoto style dark sense of humor. I think you enjoy it.

I think the side characters will be fleshed out way more towards the end of the story which is kind of Ryo Minenami's style. The other darker manga she wrote Himegoto(only 100 chapters long), it wasn't until around the very finale that we actually get a peek into one of the main characters psychology. I kind of have an issue with that if I read the series weekly but the final completed series ends up being pretty enjoyable.

If you liked boy’s abyss, I would recommend the mangaka’s other work: himegoto: juukyuusai no seifuku. It’s heavily rooted in themes of sexuality. It feels like a softer version of boy’s abyss: a slice of life between college class mates with a healthy amount of drama and darker themes masterfully sprinkled in. Another rec: eating crab with a yukionna. It centres around themes of suicide, like boys abyss. This is one of my favourite manga of all time besides the obvious ones like berserk, vagabond, punpun etc. It’s a really well polished, tightly knit story, having a clear start and end, with some brilliant writing that expertly explores the different themes it dips into. Not only are themes, feelings etc expressed thoroughly, but these ideas unfold beautifully. The characters are really well written and feel realistic. Overall it’s just fantastic. 10/10

Im not sure when you read it, where you stopped if you did, picked it back up, or continued reading it, but you hit the nail on the coffin. I just started reading Shounen no Abyss yesterday and read up to the current 80 chapters and now I want to talk about it.

Too late. In all honesty… I just feel pity for everyone. We all try our best to live our lives but we have our sad moments. Many suffered from depression and when faced with tragedy then it’s hard to get back up

I don't know if this is an odd take, but I sort of felt like I had to re read the manga at one point. Could be because I dropped it after chapter 100+. The reason I dropped it to begin with was because I felt like the story felt a little bit all over the place? I felt as though it was just a giant mess of issues, and each characters issues was also intertwined with the other's issues. I have now reread the manga and can appreciate the nuances (sort of), but I still don't know how to feel about the manga fully. It's great when it's talking about issues and seeing what effects are through the characters, but takes a massive nosedive when it tries to show you the motivations/reason/ I don't really know how to articulate it. I felt lost many times reading the manga but now after rereading I can now see things more clearly.

Been reading this manga since I think around when 15 or so came out and holy hell has it been a wild ride, I absolutely love it, the story has progressed so much. My only real gripe is that (SPOILER!!!!!!!!) Nagi kinda disappeared, I really hope she comes back but god I miss her

The manga is being released slowly on Amazon rn. I found it when I wanted a more mature and darker story compared to what I normally find.
