I worked as a guard for about 6 months at a correctional facility in Nashville. The answer to this question is yes and no. At the end of the day you're there to do a job. You have a family at home and a life out side of being a CO. Where I worked guards never hit inmates but I've heard of it happening. We were told only to really jump in when things became violent. We wouldn't let anyone get hurt but at the same time we weren't going to risk our lives controlling ever move an inmate made. Inmates are manipulative so it's best just to only jump in when needed
@dragonsoul0
@dragonsoul0 7 жыл бұрын
It also depends on security level and in general what kind of population you are dealing with. Some institutions are simply more prone to violence than others. Officers are charged with trying to maintain certain rules, though at the same time they have to walk a thin line between what Admin wants and what will cause a fight with inmates. No matter how much an officer may want to enforce every rule, they still have to go home at the end of the day and it's just not worth putting your own neck on the line to break up a poker game or something stupid like that.

In the federal pen id see the guards set back and wait; you guys done? Then the guard will show up to testify at a trial if a case is being made. Pedo get NO protection and the guards told us where the video cameras were off and you could get there and out without being seen. You have to find out what peeps are busted for. Gangsters usually do a roll call, and check paperwork on each other. Once your crew is solid, you are good to move on a target. When cell opens at 5:30 you already awake, you dressed and got your boots on. Mass Incarceration? Herc is right. Improve the society otherwise. . . You dont wanna go to prison dont be doing stuff you can go to prison for. Most dudes in there did what they did and, except when filing appeals, once they get to know you will cop to what they did. Hope that covers anything Herc diddnt hit. Good questions; not usual kiddie stuff about bustin cheeks.

That's perfect how Herc started the trending terms wig split and cheek busting. That is branding in business lingo and it's very good to read the comments and see how much that is imprinted into the viewers minds. Think of ways you can create a business and get some terminology that impacts clients like that. Mad props!

THAT'S A GOOD ADVICE! THANKS FOR THE VIDEO!!!I was a corrections officer in a maximum security prison before going into the military. I have protected inmates from each-other in a fight but that's a risk The Corrections Officer will take. Some Convicts protected Corrections Officers in fights. I have seen a few prisoners stop a rape on a female Corrections Officers. I would never give anyone shit unless they deserved it. But here's what know ,someone correct me if I am wrong it's the same for convicts as well as the corrections officers? 1. you need to have Tolerance of all people. Some of the corrections officers are as bad as those convicts. I have seen Corrections Officers turn on other Corrections Officers as quick as the inmates do. Just be on your toes, do what the rules tell you to do. A lot of new C.O.'s who come into the system are weak and convicts love to set the new C.O.'s up. EXAMPLE: I want to see my grandmother can you bring me a needle to fix my cloths? Next can you bring me a Big Mack? A fifth of whisky? If not I will tell the watch commander. Convicts will put a wedge between the individual and the rest of the staff; EXAMPLE: They are treating you like they are treating us? 2. (Be Firm, Fair and Consistent)! Treat everyone equally, never do something for someone you can't do for everyone, if you give one person a cigarette give everyone one. BUT just don't do it, that's a way of setting yourself up to be under investigation - don't give anything unless it is told by the watch-commander. A lot of prisoners try to trap staff into bringing in contraband into the prison. 3. Offer inmates a way out rather then punishing them, usually that's by writing a charge, observation report, a charge and an incident report or all three followed by a street charge. Some institutions will have you do a serious incident report...Sometimes a Corrections Officer needs to write up an inmate because the prisoner is testing eater if you have the courage to write up a person or not. I have seen charges disappear before they go to the hearings officer but for new people working in the prison system. Prisoners will just test you to see if you have confidence in yourself to run a pod? New Officer just give a charge to a prisoner but there's other ways to punish the prisoners if your worked in the system for five years. 4. Confidence goes a long way. SAY NO if your not aloud to go against the rules of your pod - DON'T... A Corrections Officers your word is law! You see some contraband or an illegal act use your discretion, to write the person up or not? Sometimes the convicts will test you to see if you have what it takes to tell the prisoners to dump out the mash out or not? 5. When giving commands, talk to men and treat men like men but be authoritative: The whistle, voice, radio and the pod or tower are your best friends while working on the floor. 6. Understand how people operate, physiological interpretation and behaviour analysis. Follow these rules and inmates will respect you. 7. Your respect the convicts they respect you!

You can always tell a guard, an inmate, or a convict by the way their eyes move..... watching every angle and keeping situational awareness even while speaking to someone. I was a CO for a short time after the service until Desert Storm came up. Folks in the town could spot a CO in a heartbeat because of the way they looked around constantly. I hated the job and only took it to feed my wife and I and it took several years to drop my constant guard to some extent. I see it in you and I wish you didn't have to feel that way. It was normal for me then and I wondered what the hell people were talking about, but watching your video....I totally get it now. I hope you find that point or place in your life where you can find some peace and ease, Sir. I think the nightmares will stop when you do. I fear the world is becoming the kind of place where you will never be able to let that guard down some. God bless you and keep you. I am praying for you and rooting for your success. God bless.

I dig what you say bro but only partly agree. Most guys in there deserve it; maybe the cops planted evidence to convict but 99% of those in there did it. Ehatever they charged with they probably did something a little less but my experience in the joint was; they were doing whatever they were caught for. If they tell you they were innocent its because they dont trust you and figure to just do the OJ, "quit blaming me and go find the real killers". OJ went down "unjustly" but everybody knows he killed them two. Its like that inside. Now, did all these guys have ANY jobs available for them? Even a pos min wage job? No. Thats the problem. But i dig what you sayin bro! Keep on keeping on, mam.

Bottom line, no guard will ever stop a stabbing or beat down by endangering themselves......the shower situation kinda depends on what security level the prison is. At a med-max prison in Oregon we were let out of our cell one at a time to shower alone, we had 10 minutes maximum and if you stayed in longer than 10 min you'll be written up. That was at OSCI, at CRCI which was minimum custody dorm style we had 10 or so individual stalls all in view of the guard station but there was no sign up sheet or time limit.

I have served 5 years two months straight in prison and secure hospitals in the UK. The system and politics here are so much different from the US. Its bizarre how two correctional methods can be so contrasting! IMO the system is corrupt through and through and in my experience it is all a trap designed for you to fail. I even heard shrinks referring to the whole thing as a game and therefore we have to treat it as such. BUT if you cant think on your toes you are a condemned man. I have seen so many persons youngsters come and never leave just for acting out and being boisterous! The system is fucked do anything you can to stay away from it, it is not glamorous...this said I met some of the most wonderful and intelligent people during my detention, including, Staff, Guards, Inmates and patients. Big UP to Big Herc, he is genuine through and through but I think it is important that he sheds more light on the fact that these places are totally savage and corrupt and when your inside your life really is just a number/statistic.

I disagree that federal funding is a solution. Total accountability and rebuilding the family structure is the only way. Don't ask me how to rebuild the family structure but that's what it all boils down to.

IDWIE funding for schools and small businesses. Employment and a good education will keep more people away from that. And a man with a job and an education will be more likely to raise a family than a high school dropout. Maybe just force them to stay in school until they're 18? Unless they have an apprenticeship lined up for them.

Unassigned schools don't need more funding......because schools aren't inadequate......business is earned not rewarded....... I always hear to put more money into schools wrong.......school can't make people less stupid....you have to change people's dna for that...but the next best thing is ppl trying extremely hard to be smarter....and you can't do that unless there's huge social pressure to motivate.....and some people who aren't smart enough to even pass highschool how many jobs do you think they can hold.....the only image ppl know of being smart is a nerd.....that needs to change and the only cool image in a lot of neighborhoods is being a gangster and listening to rap.....we all know it because we were all affected by that culture growing up.......but its all backwards.....the culture as a whole need to change......then the nation's iq will be higher and America will be more competitive internationally....

We need economic growth in the inner cities. The problem with ever major US inner city is that it's been run by democrats for over 40 years, some of them even longer. And, in all of them, before they were run by democrats, these inner cities were actually nice poor/middle class areas. If people in these communities decided to vote Libertarian or Conservative, I guarantee things would get better. Making people dependent on food stamps, welfare, and other forms of government assistance, instead of making poor people self reliant, independent, and giving them opportunity to elevate themselves and their families, does no favors. (Just as we've seen over the multiple decades that the political left has had a monopoly in these inner cities.) People in these areas blindly vote democrat every time an election is held, meanwhile their problems get worse and their economic status doesn't change. The DNC wants to keep minorities and poor people down, dependent, and unable to get ahead in life, because if their policies actually got people out of poverty, they wouldn't feel the need to vote democrat anymore. This is a problem because the entire establishment is full blown leftist. Everything from big city government, to the media, the tech industry, Public Education, and Higher Education (College) etc. All of the major pillars of American society are left leaning and have been since the 60's. Don't be fooled by lies you hear on your television, that republicans are racist. It's just a narrative. The Republican Party were the ones to end slavery and started the fight against the Jim Crow laws of the south. The Democratic Party wanted slavery and signed Jim Crow bills all over the country. The point is, Republicans/Conservatives are not your enemy, they actually want to help you change your life through self-sustainability, responsibility, and economic growth in the area. This constant cycle we always see, of being stuck in the same place financially, is the Democrats "game" in order for you to keep voting for them. Because if you constantly need help, you will keep voting for them. I would like to see one major city, start voting for politicians who aren't democrat. I guarantee you, no doubt in my mind, that that area would change drastically and people's economic status would rise. More businesses would develop in the area and cime would go way down. More citizens would be able to have access to firearms to defend themselves from criminals etc. There is so much that would change and I don't get why these areas can't or won't try it, it's like what in the world do you have to lose? You voted for 1 party for over 40 years and things keep getting worse. You would think that after 40 years, you start to think about voting differently, right? I do agree with you 100% on education as well. In addition, parenting is also a huge problem. Most children that grow up to live a life of crime, come from fatherless homes, and this extends to all races.
