The Taoiseach says the Irish people don’t want a General Election, but we took to the streets to ask them and got a different view.
A VERY different view…

@@Roman-Monahan_06. That there is the problem, there is no one else, SF will destroy the country even more than these clowns. The Country badly needs a credible centre party fast, otherwise our future will be very bleak.

Currently there are no government in the North, no prime minister in England and an election can cost up to 100 million which could be used elsewhere especially during a cost of living crisis. No isn't the time to create unstability. It's a note from the populist playbook. Now saying that come election time I'm open to vote sinn fein but we need a government in place for now.

I'm curious, what exactly is 'the populist playbook'? Not to jump down your throat or anything, your point makes sense but I respectfully disagree with it. Honestly, I think that our country's current adherence to the failed economic system of neoliberalism is what's causing the instability, as well as a very tenuous coalition structure that all but guarantees a baseline of disruption in the Irish political system. Surely pushing for the earliest opportunity to vote in what's likely to be single-party majority government of Sinn Fein will inherently bring more stability than a hodgepodge coalition? Open to having my mind changed of course!

@@FabianMacGintyONeill I'm really not defending the coalition essentially. I'm defending our tradition in this country to hold elections at a designated tenure. I'm all for holding any government to account however considering that there has been three impeachments in the US over the years, a leadership change in England, a failure of power sharing in the North. now is not the time for more change. Not taking into accoount the strain on the public service another election causes, the passport office for example. So logistically this doesn't work. I see the Sinn Fein do play politics which they need to do being in opposition so logically they need to call for a vote of no confidence . However don't be blinded as if they are the answer for everything, think of this Mary Lou during the last election "we have a programme for government" but didn't run enough candidates for a majority. It's all panto at the end of the day.
