In my videos I talk about my experience owning my Ford F350 with the 7.3 GODZILLA V8. I also feature my 2019 F250 with the 6.2 L gas v8, And if you like diesel content we also feature 6.7 powerstoke content as well. Comment below and thanks for watching!

Ive got the 5.9 cummins and i plug in if it gets 20 or below it just sounds better when it starts. And then the high idle warms it up the rest of the way quicker. Its a very small heating element minimal electrical draw. Like a small light bulb.

Always when its cold. Better oil flow on start up. Less wear.

I drive a 2005 F250 6.O diesel and I keep it plugged in to a thermostat based plug. I have it set to power up if the temp gets below 40 degrees just to help heat the fluids up for easier starting.

Yes mostly to warm the cabin faster when the wife rode with me, it never really gets cold enough here to worry about it for the engine.

Had a pos 6.0 in CA had to plug in so didn't wake up neighbors. Put on timer 2 am. Perfect at 5.

Yes. I put mine on a thermometer timer. Drops at or below 35 then it turns on the heater. At or above 35.1 and off it goes.

I set a timer for 4 hours then when i get in it, its already 95 for coolant and oil. Short warm ups times equals less fuel being burned equals better fuel mileage and more efficiency. Also less soot build up in the dpf. I also did this on my old 6.0 and it started up better and ran better on take off.

Yes not so much to warm the fluids for the engine, even though it helped, but to warm the fluids for me, to warm the cabin faster.

Why not it only helps. I did when I had one. Less stress on the motor when starting up. I will if I ever get another diesel truck.

I agree. I use the badger block heater controller.. It reads the ambient temp and the time you program to have the truck ready, and it does the math. Turns it on. Then, maintain the temp if you don't leave at the time you set it for. Most power companies will give you a rebate to cover the unit.. Not all.

90 degrees is half of your normal operating temp, and any diesel at idle doesn't produce much heat even after 3 hours of driving and its back at idle it will go down to that temp again, Canadian trucks run higher wattage block heaters and owners don't usually plug them in until zero Fahrenheit or lower and never have any issues starting, you got a nice rig 👍

I’m plugged in when single digits above zero or colder…let it perk offa switch that I flip on about 3 hrs before I gotta start it seems to be the winning formula…when it’s -15 or colder…then it perks all nite…maybe overkill but that’s how Im doin it

I'm a trucker and when the temperature falls into the 20's and the truck sits in the yard, we plug them in. Why? It keeps the oil warm by utilizing the block heater, so when it starts, the engine isn't trying to pump oil that's not a fluid as it normally is during warm weather and your rig isnt struggling to ideal. That won't save your diesel from gelling up. If I know the temp will be in the 20's pr below, I put anti-gel in the tank on my last fuel stop before I park it in the yard for the night. Plugging it in as far as I know only runs the block heater and doesn't supply charge for the battery

These newer pickups don't ever need to plug in. My 18 started all the time even -20.

What state do you live in? I’m in Ohio, I just ordered a diesel F350 and have never owned a diesel before so I’m trying to figure it all out so that when I get my truck, I will know what and how to take care of it best. The last diesels I drove at work (12 years ago) they had glow plugs, turn the ignition on and wait for the idiot light to indicate it was ready to start. Do they still have those? I’ve noticed when watching videos that people just crank them over, not plugged in, not waiting for a light before cranking it over.. I probably sound dumb but that’s fine, I need to learn. 😂

I optioned mine with the supplemental cab heater to help with heat inside the cabin when starting it.
