I don't think it's fair for anyone today to get offended by the flag joke seeing as the Saints Row series actually does have a slight homoerotic undertone to it. It's subtle, but it's there. The Playa never settles down with a girlfriend or wife, even when he becomes the POTUS which means no FLOTUS. He's a gangbanger so his "preferences" centre around sharing hos with his bois. What they do in their "fun time" is intentionally left up to your imagination. "Because I'm a gentlemen, I'll let you pick the ho" "Anything you need boss? A gun? A blowjob? Let me know" So it's firmly established in the first 2 games that the Saints sleep with each other in a typical gangbanging lifestyle, and havily implied that they sleep with the Steelport crew in SR3. Seeing as SR3 allows you to make an all male or all female gang, including gimps in full bondage gear, that could be interpreted as getting pretty gay. Not to mention the "bromance" between Carlos and The Playa in SR2 wich is a borderline mancrush, especially if you choose the latino/white voice actor like I did. I haven't tried the Australian or other voices in that game to be fair, but again the undertone is there for you to take if you choose to. Which brings us to SR4, the game where I think you actually can sleep with the same gender. So the point I'm trying to make in the end here is that Saints Row actually did try to tackle the "homosexuslity in video games" issue in their own unique way by setting the undertones while simultaneously making a joke out of it at the same time on the radio stations. Just my thoughts.
