Do you winch with the hood up or down?

This is my first vehicle with a winch. And maybe some KZfaqrs are wrong on how to PROPERLY and SAFELY winch a vehicle. How do you winch your vehicles? Let me know in the comments below. Debate with each other but be cordial. We are all here to learn from each other.

I always winch with my hood down on my PW, i did push my limits the other day when i was out breaking trail through the snowy mountains in Oregon, I am retired Army, my sister is a police officer and her friend is a state trooper, she was following me in her Rubicon decked out to around 7,500lbs and the state trooper was behind her in a Ram Rebel, they both got stuck behind me and had to get back to town quick so i hooked up to a tree in front of me, her tow point to my receiver tow point and from her rear receiver to his front tow point, it asked a lot of the PW and winch and normally wouldn't have done it that way but sometimes duty calls in the worst conditions but i am proud to say that the 2019 PW dragged them both out in chain with no issue.
