Minus the hard angle bars, I have done 4...well, all the bikes I have owned as I am a big guy and short forward handlebars are uncomfortable to me. 2 were all outside and 2 were inside. Very simple, very easy...to me. I am not a mechanic but have custom built computers and such and with the proper pin punch type tools and like he said write it down or even take a picture and it all just goes back like it should. BTW, don't by cheap sh*t bars. I know people that have shredded their wires against all kinds of sharp slag or punches/holes and whatever inside the bars and couldn't figure out the errors or malfunctions they started having. Great videos...just started watching yours.

I swapped out my handlebars on 2013 ultra, and now my bike won't start. I found out that when spraying a little starting fluid, not only does bike start, but it revs as if the throttle is all the way open. I suppose I smashed a throttle wire when pulling harness...

Doc- After a handlebar change, what would cause my throttle to seemingly feel less responsive? Went from stock to a 12 inch bar with a Z type bend. These bars were installed by a highly recommended company, KST Kustomz. I'm on a 2018 Street Glide and I do not have any codes flashing. I'm still getting use to the feel of the bars. Thanks!

Doc, It happen to me! I have the 2011 Ultra Classic Tri-Glide. So, I’m pulling my throttle control wires from the stock bars. The wires pulled apart at connectors inside the bars. I had made me diagram of the plug to the fairing. All colors matched to the fairing plug. Problem is, wires that pull apart on the throttle control is two sets of red, white, and black. One with a yellow sleeve and one with a black sleeve on it. The two wire black and white connector, I’m assuming are for heated hand grips, which were not plugged to anything. What are my options? How do I get out of this mess?

You are not the first or the last to ask this question. Please contact your Harley-Davidson parts specialist to have them look into the Harley-Davidson fitment guide. Now if you have chosen an aftermarket handlebar, they have a tool that will measure from the brake caliper to the handlebar mounting area. If you are doing this job at home that would not help you. The parts and accessories H-D Catalog is really good about informing customers that a handlebar will need cables and lines. Thanks ~ Doc

Doc, I did exactly what you said on my bar change...i got it to go in (quite a struggle) and everything works on the controls, perfectly. Except for the throttle, no response what so ever! check engine light is on and so is something that resembles the cruise control icon. BUT during re-assembly i did by mistake turn on the gas when the fuel line was disconnected....would that have shut off the throttle? (2015 Electra Glide Ultra Classic Low)
@LowCountryHarleyDavidson

No. This would have not set. A connection is not correct. Recheck wire color to wire color on each side of the connectors. Remove and install connector at throttle body. I hop the small connector near throttle grip is still connected.

Hey Doc! I have a 2014 ultra glide. The newer smaller plugs DO NOT retro fit…. Just what I’ve run into. I’ve wired everything according to the schematic in the manual. And it keeps showing P1512, P2122, P2128. I’m going back to the old style that connect inside the bars. Ugh…

Hi mate Nice video, I m doing my handlebar on Harley deluxe 2018 with smaller connector. But when I Cut the wiring to extend I didn’t notice that there are 2 wires of each colour. Now I can tell as it’s been cust . Bit dumb of me. I tried to find wiring diagram to match the wires but no luck. Have you got any idea which side which as on 2018 there are no sleeves on the wire like older models.

I'm trying to connect fog lights to my 19 fltrxs. The kit I was originally given varying numbers ending 105 or 106 install kit. Problem was the harness didn't have a connector that mated with the switch pack that mounts on the right bank. The kit was swapped for 71400129. I'm right back where I started and not much difference between the original kit I got to what I have now. Seems something is missing. I saw a brief how to video that mentions the left bank on the dash having power capability. At this point the whole dash is all blanks or no switches. Please tell me what i need to do. The lights I have fit perfectly around the road bars. I'm just at a loss at how the harness I have which came with two acc and one blank tie into each other.

I wasn't able to find the 105/106 kit in our system. Harley-Davidson's accessory catalog page 718 says you need a Fog Lamp Wiring Harness 69201109 and Switch Plate 69200172. During installation you will need to access the turn signal connectors inside the fairing.

Yeah, that customer should have just sold that crap drive by wire bike and bought a real one and save himself $60 to $180 an hour ripoff service charges.. Amount of crap goes wrong and stuff you have to change or update total cost would after service charges you could have bought a whole other bike. The New Harley Business Model of ripping everyone off.... Wouldn't by one of those crap bikes on a bet. Something goes wrong on the road and you cannot even fix it, and on top of that... cannot even figure out what is wrong as you have to hook it up to a computer. Pretty sure you even have too hook it up to the computer to adjust the throttle after that replacement..... so you have to hook it up to a computer. lol Here is one example... Driving through Illinois [pothole nightmare where you can get jolted so hard by potholes you almost get thrown off your bike]. Knew a guy who blew a gauge light [and didn't know it]. Guy hit a pothole and the bike just died.. and had to have it toed over 200 miles over a little blown gauge lite in the faring that stopped working. It was Dead as a Doornail over one tinny dash light being jolted by a pothole. Over complicated hunk of junk that is totally designed to ring up Maintenance Service Charges with five miles of wire packed into it, and expensive computer parts everywhere on it... Ask anyone who has brought one of those things in for a problem and they are all horror stories. These bikes are for rich old weekend warriors who pull it out on the weekend, ride for 20 minutes, clean it, and put it back in the garage..... Break down on the road with one of these and your fucked. See it every year with people heading to Daytona, Sturgis, Rallies, Mandatories, etc, etc, etc... Sorry Doc Harley, you can keep those bikes. Some people are required to have two that actually RUN under real world conditions and not on some test track. lol
