I cant help checking back with Doc over the years and am enjoying having a crack at learning this . I don't know the history of Little Sadie but noticed that the lyric plot is very similar to Cocaine Blues by Johnny Cash.

I loved Doc! I'm fortunate enough to have jammed with him several times, usually at Merlefest but also at various locations since I lived an hour away from him. I was just a kid really but it was a great experience! He was a real class act and could play any fuddle tune you threw at him and play it better than everyone in the circle lol. There is a statue of him sitting on a bench playing guitar in town in Boone NC that people can sit on and take pictures and such. Last time I was in the area I sat and played John Hardy for him. True legends never die!

When you play that tune, you start realizing that sometimes Doc verse unexpectedly last longer than it should actually be but Steve is still able to follow, showing his dedication listening to/supporting Doc

The chord changes n run. So smooth. Incredible. 10 years n a lifetime to work on that. Maybe just scratch my guitar and dump it into the fireplace.

we're not supposed to compete with the giants, but we can be inspired by them. so grab that guitar and play a Doc Watson tune that makes you feel good and if you feel like you've hit your skill limits play something completely different. do it for yourself and not for the competition:) guitar is therapy for the soul.

I lost my pre war Gibson to….. well, I’ll just say I lost it as forgiveness is necessary. But in the mid-sixties, there wasn’t or weren’t too many other pickers to emulate and inspire. But what an inspiration to us all. I think of him every time I sit n’ pick and feel as if he’s right there with me. He was fond of saying “you gotta practice like the devil”, and my guitar hangin on the wall makes me feel guilty to not pick it up, so I do if for no other reason than just to soothe my soul.

Just heard Billy Strings doing this so wanted to check out the man who originally sang it. Feel like there is a big resemblance in story line to cocaine blues by Johnny Cash! Not sure but feel like Doc had it first and Johnny spun off it to make a mint!?.?!

Both are related to an even older song first recorded in the 20s(?) by Riley Puckett as Chain Gang Blues

This vs the Cash version just hits different. This hits more of a western outlaw vibe vs Johnny's version that hits a scorned drug addict vibe
