Elderly clergyman Dr. Syn (George Arliss) is one of the most respected members of a tiny coastal community, but few of the locals have any idea that Syn was once known to the world as Captain Clegg, a merciless swashbuckler who viciously defended his wife, Imogen (Margaret Lockwood). Unbeknown to his friends and neighbors, Syn is still masterminding a looting operation -- but this time he's using the stolen goods to improve his town. Unfortunately, the authorities may be on to the old man.
