So, let's talk about spoilers. Parker, please DO read this one! There's something pretty big that's so fundamental to Doctor Who, that a lot of fans don't even think of it as a spoiler. Unfortunately, that means that a lot of reactors get spoiled for it by the comments, and when it happens, their reaction is rather diluted. It'll be fantastic if you can get there spoiler-free, so I'd think carefully about whether or not to read the comments until you're into season 2. If you can find a moderator, brilliant. Otherwise, maybe binge-watch the series, banking your reaction videos?

Clive showing Rose a photograph of the Doctor at the scene of the Kennedy assassination is a meta-reference for those few of us who were around back in 1963: the very first episode of Doctor Who aired here in Britain the day after the assassination. In fact it was thought to have been so swamped by the wall to wall news coverage that the first episode was actually repeated the following week! BTW... Yes, I have been watching right from the start even if my memories of the earliest years are now a bit hazy.

My favourite show ever. What’s so brilliant is that this show can go anytime or place and tell any story big or small, emotional or dramatic and never feel like it is repeating ideas or staying within a formula. The show is always changing and that’s why this show has been popular since 1963. And I’m sure that if you reach the later series you will be surprised how different it will feel compared to now.

In case no one has mentioned the series/episode order: there are usually specials in between series. However you’re watching will likely have all episodes in the right order, but some services got muddled up before. This list should cover them, someone will fill in if I’ve missed anything! First ever video and already got these kind of numbers, that's seriously impressive

Duplicate Mickey looking obviously plastic was done on purpose: it's simultaneously a cue to the audience as to the nature of the duplicate and an homage of the same thing being done on the original show for the same villains. In this episode, it's also used to show just how wrapped up Rose is in her own problems; you'll notice she hardly ever looks directly at duplicate Mickey. People not noticing things that are going on right in front of them is a theme throughout this episode, and brought up explicitly by the Doctor.

So. Can we talk about spoilers? Parker, please don't read this comment! Everyone else who might be thinking of commenting, please do read it! Is that enough spoiler space? Should be. So... I've watched a lot of Doctor Who reactors, and every single time, their reaction to The Parting of the Ways has been spoiled by comments about regeneration, and "David Tennant is my favourite Doctor". It's not done deliberately, it's just so fundamental to the series that we don't even think of it as a spoiler. But it's clear from the intro that Parker doesn't know who Tennant and Matt Smith are playing, and honestly, there's no need to know about regeneration or all the other Doctors. If we can keep it that way, not let on that Eccleston is the first of several Doctors in the new series, just imagine how fantastic the reaction to the regeneration will be.

One of the best shows ever.... get ready to laugh, be scared, cry or be thrilled!!! You'll never know what each episode will bring... the first season of new who (classic Dr who started in 1963!) Started in 2005 and so some of the effects aren't the best but each season just keeps getting better!!! Your gonna love it...

9:14: oh, he does do that in season 2. Well, not hell, but its a desolate planet with a giant thing underneath claiming to be satan.

This is my favourite show - started watching the classic series as a kid in the early 90s and now this. You are on the beginning of a journey and you will love it x

I think it is important to be aware that this was prime time family viewing so it had to somehow appeal to every age range and offend no-one and still be good! Not easy 👍 Russell T Davis legend.

When Dr Who started again in 2005 I was so impressed. I watched it as a kid in the 1980’s. You have a couple of seasons to go for the Weeping Angels. The first time is in the episode Blink which was partly filmed in my husbands shop in South Wales in the U.K.

Love watch new people start the series. The show can be very very camp but it’s also very very intentional. There’ll be episodes that make you laugh, make you cry and make you say WTF! But it’s incredibly fun and gets even better the next few seasons.

That episode reignited a fandom. Thank you Christopher. It was a big thing in the Doctor Who reboot to make sure new people could join in at any point and make sense of it. Thanks Parker for your honest unfiltered reaction.

My dad got me into Doctor Who when it started again back in 2005. I also met 15 different Doctor Who actors at Comic Con.

About them not dragging out him being an alien for a while: Remember that this is a continuation of the old series, so it makes no sense trying to keep stuff hidden that has been public knowledge since 1963. Everything established before is explained rather quickly whenever it comes up. About spoilers: There are two crowds out there: Those who only know the new series and consider everything that comes up in a later episode to be a spoiler, and those who know the new and old series and consider everything established in the old one to not be a spoiler for the new one. The writers are clearly in the latter category, as nothing one could learn from the old series will spoil any plot point or storyline in the new one. At most, you'll be bored during the time the Doctor explains it to new viewers. ;) Also, many aspects of worldbuilding, no matter if they are one-shots with no consequence or will become story points later, are presented without explanation. For a show that rarely has two episodes in the same setting, that's mostly a necessity. The Doctor knows about that stuff (especially laws, regulations and treaties...) and if you need to understand it better than what you can get from its name, there will be more information.

It's worth noting that the 2005 series is more of a continuation than a reboot. The history and lore just carries over. But don't worry you don't need to have seen the original run to get into the new version. But if you do get really into it, and you will consider checking out the original. The special effects are kinda dodgy on purpose, the original was that way because the tech didn't exist and it just kinda became Doctor Who's thing. It adds to the charm I think.

I'm so obsessed with Doctor Who! I've seen every episode from 1963-1989 (even some of the lost episodes), the movie from 1995 and the reboot starting in 2005. It's one of my favorite shows EVER!

Although the episode is labelled 1x1, this is a continuation of the 1963 original series and not a reboot. So there's literally decades of historical "lore" to introduce - way too much to pack into the very first episode. You'll find out more about the Doctor as the series progresses... As for the effects, they do get better - the BBC didn't give them much of a budget at first, because they weren't sure it was going to be a success!

Great reaction! Re: the space sequence at the start - there was an attempt to resurrect the classic series in 1996 with a TV movie. It started with a very similar sequence to this episode except that it zoomed in on an alien planet instead of Earth. The showrunner in the 2005 series wanted to make this version more relatable for new fans who had never seen the classic series, hence the focus on Earth.

Hopefully, all the folks that feel the need to explain everything about the show in great detail do not spoil things for you! Because there really are story arcs and surprises you wouldn't want spoiled! (You might want to take notes so you don't forget what you want to talk about at the end) You have to just accept the effects or you will constantly be distracted. I take Rose not noticing Mickey being turned to plastic shows that she just takes him for granted and doesn't really pay attention to him.

I hope you enjoying watching doctor who. I have enjoyed it ever since I started watching it all the way back in 2010 and it has become one of my favourite shows. Also in November it will mark 60 years of doctor who with the original episode from the classic series being released in 1963. Doctor who ( 1963 - 2023 ) what a journey it has been and the adventures that wait for us in the future.

Started my Doctor Who obsession with this episode over a decade ago now and your reaction gave me such a vicarious sense of joy :) Also, very glad to hear your acceptance of the horrid 2000s CGI. Not every special effect in the show looks quite that bad -- though there certainly are *moments*, some better, some worse -- but I grew up with that aesthetic as well so it's sorta just charming to me now. Like looking at that old computer Rose searched for the Doctor on, I just have to chuckle at it instead of expecting modern standards and tech. Anyways, this was fantastic for your first reaction! I genuinely forgot you said it was your first one cause it felt so natural and on-par with other KZfaqrs doing TV reactions. There is no "old" and "new" version the show is continuous from from 1963 to present - the longest running sci-fi show (Guinness World Record). There is the "Classic" Doctor Who before the gap in the 90's and it was revived in 2005 but the overall plot is continuous. The New DW is a good start as you don't need to know the "classic" but after I got through them I went right to the classic and then back again to the new series as there are a lot references to the Classic all through the show - Easter Eggs for those who know the history. 😉 The show is absolutely unique and can't really be compared to anything else. "in time & space" literally means you can end up everywhere future, past, present, Earth or anywhere else in the universe.

A great way to start your channel! I enjoyed your video, and I'm glad you enjoyed "Rose". The script does a phenomenal job of engaging the viewer, despite some production flaws. There's some great stuff to come. I hope you don't get spoiled too much about what will happen!

the internet has transformed the view of dr who so much it's mad. if you asked someone like 20 years ago what they know about dr who. daleks would be the main thing they site. but the popularity of the weeping angels inspiring a fuck tonne of online horror even from those who've never seem the show has vastly transformed how people view it which is strange.

Welcome to the world, nay the universe of Doctor Who. It was originally created in the early 1960's as an entertaining and educational show for children where they could have adventures and learn at the same time and it's grown from there. It is still very much a family show for children and adults now. The special effects have always been a bit below par in terms of the technology available but that's fine, its not about the special effects, its about the stories, adventures and the characters. Some episodes are fun, some can be a little silly, many are dramatic and some scary.... but always entertaining! There is 60 years of history in this show so it will take you a little while to learn about that part.... but it should be fun! Its a show like no other - scf-fi... but not all space battles and special effects....I hope you enjoy the ride. Many of your questions will be answered as the episodes roll by, don't want to give you any spoilers...
