I think the James Bond metaphor is the best way to think about it. Each James Bond actor has had a somewhat different personality, but they're all "suave action badass." The girls he loves pretty much tells him he means nothing to her anymore, and you can see he understands exactly what she’s saying before he says he’s going to help her. The Time Vortex is not the conscious part of the Tardis; it's what the Tardis travels through when it's travelling through time, and access to the Time Vortex can be found within the Tardis herself. It's the machine itself that has a life of its own, able to manipulate the Time Vortex to do what she wants. So when Blon transforms into an egg, the Tardis used the Time Vortex to do what she wanted. When Rose takes in the Time Vortex, she took in its power and established a psychic connection with it the same way the Tardis can. So it was Rose, with the power of time, who was Bad Wolf. The Bad Wolf's speech gave me chills the first time I saw it, dividing each atom of the Daleks' existence. It felt like classic horror scifi.

Since you already mentioned it, I'd highly recommend watching the 2005 children in need special "Born Again" just before the christmas episode. It's very short and fills the gap between the two episodes.

If I remember correctly Eccleston didn't really like working on Doctor Who and I think him leaving so early was also because they wanted to introduce the regeneration thing early for people that weren't familiar with Doctor Who before so they knew what they were getting in to. Usually when shows kill off or write off the lead thats when the show starts to die and never recovers with a few exceptions obviously but killing the main actor in the first season is a lot easier for fans to handle then to kill them off after 5 seasons of being attached to them or w/e and once you've introduced to whole regeneration thing people just know going in to it that you can't get too attached and to just enjoy the time you do have with them.

AND HERE IT IS. First off, props to Lono for the editing on this one. That was great. And also hilarious a lot of the time. AND we get like 35 minutes of discussion? That's amazing. First time I saw this episode, I cried floods. Like, I don't know what it was at the time, but I'd grown really really attached to Eccleston as the Doctor, and I didn't want to see him go. It's not even a particularly sad moment, but it still gets me. I love this regeneration a lot though. It's him accepting it as a consequence of saving not some big civilisation or ending some war but of saving Rose. I love that. I agree on the interpretation that Bad Wolf is this combination of Rose and the TARDIS. I really like that one. Eric being upset when Jack died was also pretty hilarious, at least with knowing he comes back. I guess we like to see you guys suffer. I'm pretty sure I teared up rewatching this with the crew, but I think I saw Calvin tear up too, and perhaps even Shane. Doctor Who has started dragging us down in to emotional torture already. Great. I'd love it if you guys watched Torchwood, whichever way you think is best (though of course I'm biased and would rather have both Torchwood and Doctor Who going at the same time but oh well). I think Torchwood starts sometime after s2, but I'm sure Lono can check that out. But yes, there are some crossovers between the shows. (Also, Calvin stopped watching Torchwood halfway through s3?! That must have been difficult, considering.) The Sarah Jane Adventures would be fun as well, because then I could actually get around to watching those, but I don't know if they'd be Blind Wave's thing? About the minisodes, again, I'm biased, because I have some of them I really love. They're not necessary, per say, (except possibly The Night of the Doctor, but even that you can do without), but it's good fun. That being said, I don't think you have to see every single prequel to the episodes they did in like, s6. But that's a while away. I guess the ones I'd pick out would be: Born Again, Time Crash, Space, Time, Pond Life, the Night and the Doctor shorts, and the 50th prequel Night of the Doctor. They're almost all on youtube, so they're easily accessible. But I think Lono can be a good judge of which ones would fit, if any. And I've probably missed some that someone else thinks is absolutely essential. :P Doctor Who fans can never agree on anything. Back to the episode, I really love this one. I think the dramatic stakes are well done, and even if the Doctor triumphs in the end, there's still consequences throughout all of it. But I like that it ends on hope (except for Jack, poor guy). And the Doctor's line, "So was I!". He was indeed. He was the reason I got into Doctor Who to begin with, his mannerism, that ridiculously big smile. That being said, I can't wait for you guys to start watching Tennant. I think you're going to have a blast with him, and with Doctor Who in general. I never realized how very young he is here! It's so strange seeing that. Also, damn Eric. With your predictions. There were a few of them here, one in particular that I had to pause the video at. Guys, is Eric secretly a time lord? Where is his TARDIS? That was eery. Also, I would LOVE for you guys to go back and watch some Classic Who, as Calvin talked about. There's some really interesting stuff there and I think you'd enjoy it. I'm pretty sure I know what Tom Baker adventures Calvin was referring to, and that would be a lot of fun to watch you guys react to. Can't wait for Christmas next week. Gonna be a lot of snow. 50 year old subscriber from the UK: I really appreciate that you guys discuss the episodes. Many channels simply have people watching and ... that's it. Erin is doing a great job of leading you all through the episodes without giving any thing away. While it might be contentious, I think watching the odd story from what is called 'classic Who' would be interesting for you guys - Genesis of the Daleks comes to mind but you don't have to at all. Please keep doing what you are doing and watching and discussing the plots as that is what makes you guys special.

I like to think the Bad Wold is a Hybrid of Rose and the Tardis but on their own they aren't like Rose can't even remember it happens but I think the Tardis does since it is a being of time so to speak. I've always interpreted the Bad Wolf bootstrap was possible because of Rose absorbing the Heart of the TARDIS. There have been other bootstrap paradoxes in the show, but I've gotten the feeling that, here at least, Rose momentarily has power over all time and space (or most or much of it).

I'm gonna be honest: it took me a while to get used to Tennant. First off, I didn't recognize him from Gonlet of Fire (that's on me). Second, I was thoroughly enjoying Eccleston's Doctor that I didn't like him changing out after ONE season. Third, part of me was still reeling from the last two parter and "everyone lives" (that one took me three seasons to understand and come to terms with, but it's a fantastic two-parter to be sure). And four, honestly it's the same as two, because we were following Rose's story for this season. Anyone who hadn't watched the older stuff was viewing this from Rose's perspective, thus a Doctor Change without context takes some time adjusting. Tennant was amazing, but Eccleston was "Fantastic!"

The TARDIS also has a soul, and it's soul has an innate connection to the Time Vortex. The Heart of the TARDIS is a gateway to both it's soul and the Time Vortex. When Rose created the Bad Wolf message, it was all her idea, just with the power of the Time Vortex. The TARDIS's soul simply granted her that power.

Blind Wave, in order to do Torchwood right watch in this order: 1. Start Torchwood Season 1 after Doctor Who Season 2 2. Make sure to have watched all of Torchwood Season 1 before the Doctor Who Season 3 episode "Utopia" 3. Finish Doctor Who Season 3 4. Watch all of Season 2 of Torchwood before the Doctor Who Season 4 episode "The Stolen Earth" After that, you can watch the rest of Torchwood at your own pace. Season 3 is five long episodes, and it is (as 9 would say) fantastic. I was told to stop after that because apparently Season 4 of Torchwood is utter horse crap, so I never watched it.

I remember this first regeneration I watched. I was definitely wary going into the next episode and unsure if I'd like it. By the end of the Christmas Special, however, I was completely won over. Nothing against any of the others, as they all have their charms, but Tennant is definitely ~my Doctor.

Before watching The Christmas Invasion, don't forget the prequel mini episode Children in Need special (also called "Born Again"). It takes place between this episode and The Christmas Invasion.

"Bad Wolf" and "Parting of The Ways" is my Number #1 favorite season finale two parter episode in the "Doctor Who" TV Show! I relly liked how the producers brought back the ruthless Dalek Emperor himself as the Main Antagonist!

Don't know if anybody already answered that, but the 1st season of Torchwood happenes between season 2 and 3 of Doctor Who, since the event at the end of season 2 influences one of the character from Torchwood. Then season 3 of Doctor Who happens, and then season 2 of Torchwood.

Capaldi is probably my favourite, but before series 10 it was absolutely Tennant. You are in for a ride!

AND THAT CLIFFHANGER I CAN'T I just spent half an hour recovering, then came here so I could drown out the HOLY CRAP with some happy stuff. YES? THIS IS HAPPY STUFF FITE ME

I always wanted them to do one episode (or a small arc, two or three episodes at the most) where 'something' happened to the Doctor (accident, Time Lord disease, etc.) which caused him to go through a series of 'false regenerations'...then they could try all of those unusual Doctor ideas with a bunch of guest stars doing little samples of how they might act as the Doctor. At the end, he's fixed/cured and goes back to being the main actor.

The minisodes are worth checking out ...Torchwood reactions would be also cool and you guys should definitely check out the Tom Baker story 'Genesis of the Daleks'. Great reactions

I really hope the blind wave crew watch and react to the Children in need mini episode that comes after episode 13 (parting of the ways) and before the Christmas episode ( the Christmas invasion) its a sad but fun little episode that leads on to the Christmas invasion.

This episode is called Parting of Ways. The chapter of Harry Potter, book 4, that Barty Crouch Jr dies in is called Party of Ways. British Media coming full circle. Also, Torchwood - It is a more adult themed show. It starts after the start of Doctor Who's season 3. At the end of the third season of Doctor Who is a trilogy and you have to finish the first season of Torchwood before starting the trilogy. They run from one to the other.

the series stopped with the 7th doctor (Sylvester McCoy) in 1989. The 8th doctor (Paul McGann) was only in a feature film in 1996 and Sylvester McCoy starred in the beginning of the movie to give him the regeneration.

New Netflix Original Series: Beachwood, Starring David Tennant.

I love that tennant is in broadchurch and when they did an American version they cast him in the same role so he was playing the same character similtaniously in 2 different versions of the same show.

And that's it for Christopher Eccleston and Series 1. I actually missed this episode when it first aired and didn't see it till much later. When I watched the Christmas Invasion I didn't even know the Doctor regenerated! I was so confused! Going back and re-watching this episode I can appreciate how amazing Series 1 was and how great the 9th Doctor was, he was my first Doctor and I will always remember him fondly for that. Now we get David Tennant and some of the best Doctor Who content there is soon! Can't wait!

There is a mini series with David Tennant called "The Escape Artist" ....He plays a criminal attorney and it is very chilling with an amazing plot and acting. I highly recommend it!

It's Broadchurch that David Tennant is in. David Tennant had a fair few roles before this including: Blackpool, Secret Smile, Casanova (all BBC/ITV shows). I would recommend watching Blackpool! Broadchurch was way after his Doctor Who time, it also includes another Doctor and a companion from future series as well as a few cameos.

I always assumed the Bad Wolf was Rose + the TARDIS. Because the TARDIS/Time Vortex as an omnipresent entity does not take sides in wars, it's a god essentially but it does not manipulate time the way Bad Wolf did. However, Rose is human with human wants and motives, so that combined with godlike powers explains her actions. The Doctor knew that it was a bad idea, too, because not only was she reversing death and doing things that should not be done, but the Time Vortex is too much for her human body to handle and her mind would have been burned up. Fans debate about whether the Bad Wolf was all Rose or all TARDIS but I argue it's an even mix of both. And furthermore in my personal headcanon, now that Rose and the TARDIS have connected, there are still lingering parts of each other's energies in them, which accounts for future episodes in which the TARDIS seems to have developed a personality of her own and misbehaves more often, tipping the scales in the Doctor's favor every now and then because she loves him-- "I want you safe, my Doctor."-- because she was touched by a human heart that loves, like what happened with the Dalek. And yeah, like you guys said, there's basically no coincidences, it's all the TARDIS' doing.

Torchwood is introduced in the secon season of Doctor Who. The series with John Barrowman begins somewhere after season two finale.

There's a saying amongst the fans of Doctor Who: "You never forget your first Doctor." So, I'm a little happy that Eccelston was Eric's first because he was the guy that fit the Ninth Doctor the best in my opinion. I can't imagine how the series would have been with Nine as a different guy. I can say the same thing about the Tenth Doctor and David Tennant, but that could be bias as he was my first Doctor. 😊

Just a heads up, the Eighth Doctor more or less didn't exist in on-screen form, as the show was just dying out when the seventh Doctor regenerated. He appeared in a feature-length movie, I believe, and had some adventures in the related comics, but aside from that he didn't really have much of a presence prior to the start of NewWho
