Iconic quotes & humorous moments from Patrick Troughton's years as The Second Doctor: 1966-1969

Hartnell is the school teacher that lectures you if you mess around in class. Troughton is the friend you mess around with in class.

So 10 is the original's future self while 11 is the 2nd grandson

That former description fits Pertwee more honestly. Hartnell is more like the scary headmaster who is surprisingly fun to be around once you get to know him

Baker (T) is the rather weird Janitor who makes faces through the classroom window when the teacher isn't looking.

@@ride-playerbb2818true…but i would add that the lecture is one of trying to get you on the right path Adding onto the thoughts: Baker is the teacher who shows you how it’s done so you learn from your mistakes that got you caught

Pertwee IS the Doctor who's most likely to call out shenanigans in class. But he's also the one more likely to start them too. He even calls himself out for it. "What's wrong with being childish? I like being childish." Hartnell is the beloved but forgetful teacher just before retirement while Troughton is the teacher who has his TA do everything because he tends to get the specific facts wrong. Tom Baker as the creepy janitor is eerily on the nose... the young teacher in over his head, the administrative member subbing for the day, that one teacher who ignores the entire class in favor of his Teacher's pet...

I absolutely love Troughton, it's a shame that most of his episodes are missing.
@julieeverett74424 жыл бұрын
at this point there are 5 of his 21 stories missing, that is NOT most of them unfortunately it DOES include two of the most important ones!
@geheimleise3 жыл бұрын
@@julieeverett7442 Well, that's not an accurate way to put it either. Out of his 21 stories only 4 are *completely* missing as not a single episode survives (Power of the Daleks, Highlanders, Macra Terror and Fury from the Deep), but a further 10 stories are missing some or the majority of their episodes, totaling 14 affected Serials. More importantly though, out of 119 episodes in the Troughton era 53 are missing. That's about 44.5%. It's not the majority of his episodes, but the majority of his stories do have missing episodes, some like Evil of the Daleks and Space Pirates even all but one... So even though not the majority of his episodes are missing and not a majority of his stories are completely missing, the Troughton era is heavily affected by missing episodes as only 7/21 serials at the moment have been completely preserved.

This clip might only offer a small glimpse of his incredible talents, but it does show Patrick Troughton had great range as an actor. Especially how he could play The Doctor grimly serious at some points; silly and devious at others, and even lighthearted and warm in moments in between. Truly an exceptional performer who managed to take what William Hartnell had developed and expand upon it in so many marvelous ways.

@AvengerII5 жыл бұрын
It's getting to be that way with me, too. I've watched quite a bit of Second Doctor online and have three of the DVD releases with restored and animated footage. Hands down, he's the most reliable Doctor as far as making the storylines interesting. Tom Baker still has the most interesting stories of the COLOR era of Doctor Who but Troughton could definitely make bland stories work. I have seen a bad story of Troughton released to DVD yet and disagree with some of the commentary on the DVD episodes -- some people are too hung up on political correctness. It's unfortunate so much of his stuff is missing and we only have audio but hopefully someone at BBC will be determined to recreate more of the lost serials. I have my doubts whether they'll find much more unless people are hoarding reels of lost episodes in their film library collections. You never know, occasionally a film that was lost shows up after decades.

@Hyman74Roth9 жыл бұрын
***** Honestly if the BBC didn't erase most of his tapes the second Doctor would've given the Fourth Doctor a run for his money because he, maybe more so than Hartnell's doctor laid the groundwork for future actors to work on. Matt Smith and Peter Davison were inspired by this doctor so he is powerful, its just awful management at the BBC that prevents him for being bigger than he should be.
