The sequence of scenes is amusing as well as content: downbeat Doctor and Adric in trouble, then the Doctor says the regeneration is failing (so why bother watching?) with Adric next to him, then we see Tegan and Nyssa laughing at the console.

@@purefoldnz3070 Technically not "retro" style, just BBC1 presentation graphic design in late 81/early 82. The striped BBC1 logo had first appeared in late 1975 and appeared on many continuity slides and on the special Christmas idents in the late 70s, before finally becoming part of the main ident in September 1981. I like the way the word "Season" is animated and the dot on the exclamation mark whizzes towards the viewer as the graphic mixes to the VT of Davison looking in the mirror. The late great Radio 2 DJ, Ray Moore, the go-to voice-over man for BBC1 trailers and menus from the mid 70s to the late 80s, reminding viewers the series was "...now on Mondays and Tuesdays." A great sequence. Recall it appeared between Blue Peter and the Evening News at 5.40pm. I was very keen to see how the new Doctor's first adventure would begin.

Yeah, the Master gets off in his TARDIS at the end of "Logopolis". Could easily have escaped to face the Doctor another day. And "Castrovalva" could easily have had 5th deal with some other foe for his debut story. But then I suppose it does conclude a trilogy long story arc which began with "The Keeper of Traken" dealing with the Master's return.

@tardis_treasures totally agree. A real pity that Earthshock wasn't the season Finale that year. Time Flight was much too ambitious a script to attempt in 1982 , especially at the end of the season when the money was tight.

6.55pm on Monday between Nationwide and The Rockford Files and 7.05pm on Tuesday usually following a Tom and Jerry before A Question of Sport. On the 11th January, following part three of Castrovalva, Peter Davison and Sandra Dickinson were one of three couples taking part in a quiz: 'So You Think You Know What's Good For You?' One of an occasional series in the late 70s and early 80s. 'So You Think...?' Was presented by Cliff Michelmore and Magnus Magnusson.

It was made for ten quid and a packet of Quavers, but it drew ratings any TV series today would kill their grandma for, and was usually 97 times better than the current version of the show. Not always, but Eric Saward hadn't finished kneecapping the show by this point.
@MorristheMinor6 күн бұрын
Actually the first season of the Fifth Doctor was script edited by Christopher H Bidmead. Personally, I don't rate Saward very much, either. Terrance Dicks wasn't impressed by his work.

It was nearly one of Peter's first-ever roles on television. He was only in his late twenties at the time and he himself has admitted that he took the role on too young, regretting not having played the role a little older. Watch Time Crash or hear his audios, his point is bang on. He sounds great in the role as an older actor.
