These Doctor Who reviews are for an entirely new rebooted Doctor Who, so much that even the BBC and Disney have titled it Doctor Who Series 1. Whether this new series 1 reboot will even continue past Ncuti Gatwa's run as the Doctor remains to be seen. As the BBC and Disney seem to be shrinking the audience rather than expanding it. What has happened to Doctor Who makes me sad. Doctor who is something special for me. My Dad always used to let me stay up late and watch with him. It was constant and comforting. Remember when Britain gave us James Bond, The Saint, Dracula, Frankenstein and other Hammer epics, and of course the classic Doctor Who? Hard to believe in only 50 or so years, we have gotten to this.

Even as an American (and an African-American at that), what happened to Doctor Who really pisses me off. My first Doctor was Tom Baker, and I've been a huge fan of the series ever since (with my second favorite Doctor being Christopher Eccleston, who was absolutely FANTASTIC in Revenger's Tragedy, btw). So believe me, the British fans are not alone in whatever the hell is going on here.

I saw a scene from Doctor Who last night. Three babies in some kind of prams, with flamethrowers on them, chased off the monster and saved the doctor, who seemed to be hiding behind a wall from it. Oh, and the babies talked... I think. I left the room at that point and put on HoloTalk instead.

As an American who once loved Doctor Who, I assure you that Doctor Who is dead. And it has been, for quite a while.

Another good example is the american version of red dwarf. I saw the pilot and instead of "I've still got that library card" (after waking up) Something many british people related too. But in the american one, he says something like "I've still got those baseball cards" It didn't work and was not funny, whereas the british one was classic humour.

Look at it this way. Disney is making it easy on the fans. Now when you say you are a fan of something, it's easy to qualify. Ex: "do you like Star Wars"? "Yes. But not Disney Star Wars". Now Dr. Who fans can use it

As someone who has a degree in History, I can say for 100% certainty that the whole "being on the wrong side of History" thing is absolute bullshit. The idea is based on a fundamental misunderstanding on how human civilization develops. It's not a linear thing; it doesn't always progress from a time of less freedom to more freedom, from greater oppression to less oppression. There are _trends_ that we can map out when we look back when what's come before, but there are no rules that say, "this is the way things always work," because they don't. There was a time when the Islamic world was the best educated society on Earth, a haven for intellectual thought, a multicultural community of religious tolerance -- and then things changed. One religious leader came forward, defamed intellectual pursuits as being evil, and started a trend towards anti-intellectualism, bigotry, and intolerance that started a Dark Age in the Islamic world that lingers to this day. Likewise, there was a time where the forces of Islam were being triumphant everywhere, spreading in all directions, had taken over (modern day) Spain, and were poised to invade the heart of Europe itself from the east -- and then it stopped. It stopped because a group of Christians fought back against the invaders and blunted the spread, saving Europe from _ever_ being invaded. Europe wouldn't be Europe if this hadn't happened, and that's not all. The Renaissance, the Enlightenment, the development and spread of Democracy, the entire concept of Civil Rights and the Freedoms we enjoy today *never would have happened* if people "on the wrong side of History" hadn't resolutely stood firm and demanded that the arc of History change to be what _they_ wanted it to be. So never be ashamed of being "on the wrong side of History," because History hasn't been written yet and can be the way we want it to be if we stand firm and fight back.

When the showrunners for Doc Martin talked about licensing the show for an American version, it was the American fans who begged them not to. We knew Hollywood would ruin it. A "more American" version of Doctor Who was tried several years ago and it failed miserably.
