RTD said it's a sad scene after many sad scenes and that's why it had to go, but honestly I felt kinda hopeful watching it (I just rewatched the episode to figure out where it would have gone, and it feels the same). Loss is sad, obviously, but it's such a hopeful message afterward, about life continuing on, but being better because of the people you had in it even when they aren't there anymore, and the importance of doing things to honor them and their place in your life ("let's find a new world, for her"). To me, on the whole, it's not a sad scene at all, since we all experience loss at some point and all need some reason to keep moving afterwards (as @treefrog1018 pointed out, this is Donna's place in the Doctor's life). The line is great and fits exactly in with that mood and purpose (as you @madmintertaintainment6268 said, "you were right [to let her in]"), and I wish they'd kept that scene as well.

I hate that scene, so glad it's cut. Why imply that Agatha Christie is heralded for billions of years? Why are they printing books? In English? Makes no sense. They could just have easily done what they did with Vincent and that would've been fine.

I didn't think the actor for her was good.

I think the "too much sad" comment was referring to the scene after, with Donna & the Doctor in the TARDIS. Which that one was a good cut. Seems silly having Donna lecture the Doctor on dealing with grief as if he'd never lost someone he cared about in his 1200 years (or however old he was). But the two breath of life scenes, definitely agree, they were great.

Its not just about the quality of the scene by itself, its about the larger picture. As Russel says, some of these scenes ruin the pace of the episode.

There were other writers during the Davies and Moffat era who wrote extraordinary episodes...too.

As a reply to Joan yes there where some brilliant writers during this era and to minty yes it’s not just about the quality and I think it’s about the creativity anyway

@@HughDoesStuff The reveal of the master didnt do it for me, i found it too laughably bad especially the actor who played him. He doesnt seem like a character that came from the previous incarnations of the master. The reveal of ruth i must say did get me quite intrigued on what they would do but all in all, the last episode was just a chibnall taking a huge dump on 60 years worth of tv legacy. Now thats one hell of a thing to pull off

Its a shame that knowing with episodes like with tesla, that this show could achieve greatness but its surrounded with too much shitty episodes that the potential of it is just lost.
