Collagen supplements are generally not magic bullets with overnight changes in pain, but that doesn't mean we should overlook them. There is some rather interesting research surrounding gelatin and collagen supplements that we shouldn't ignore

If you’re new to my channel, my name is Dr. Drew Timmermans, ND, RMSK. I’m the founder of Regenerative Performance in Gilbert, AZ, specializing in interventional orthobiologics, which is just a fancy way of saying we help people reclaim their life from chronic pain without steroids or surgery. We challenge the conventional pain management approaches by addressing the root causes of chronic pain.
How I got here…
22 yrs old: Graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Western Ontario.
23 yrs old: Competed as a long sprinter, anchoring the 4x400m relay to a silver medal at the Canadian national championships, contributing to Western's first national title in men's track and field.
23 yrs old: Started working as a personal trainer for GoodLife Fitness in Canada, quickly becoming one of the Top 10 Personal Trainers nationwide.
23 yrs old: Herniated two discs in my lower back, ending my track and field career and sending me into a multi-year battle with chronic pain.
24 yrs old: Enrolled at the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine (now Sonoran University of Health Sciences) after discovering my passion for naturopathic medicine.
26 yrs old: Still battling chronic back pain, I finally became pain-free through a platelet-rich plasma injection.
28 yrs old: Graduated and become a licensed naturopathic doctor.
29 yrs old: Completed the first-ever residency in regenerative medicine and integrative pain management at the Neil Riordan Center for Regenerative Medicine.
29 yrs old: Co-founded Regenerative Performance to help people with chronic pain just as I had been helped.
Today: We help people who have chronic joint pain reclaim their life with cutting edge treatments like platelet rich plasma, and stem cell therapy.
To everyone battling chronic pain, remember that your story is still being written.
Never give up.

Hi thanks so much for these! I've heard collagen can potentially help tight fascia/ muscles as well ? Hopefully you do distance consultations. Thanks xx

Collagen can be helpful for some people, but primarily we focus on getting total protein content up. We sometimes do distance consultations, it depends.

Thank you very much for this fascinating explanation doctor. I am 40 and I frequently come down with tendonitis or muscle strains while running or swimming. I have heard that especially type-2 collagen supplement would help along with strengthening and stretching exercises. I would highly appreciate if you could share your opinion with me on this matter. Thank you very much in advance and all the best from Turkey.

Collagen peptides can be helpful in some patients. It's important to try it for at least 6 months as it takes a long time to work

In the case of recovery from acute injury, are we talking about general whole body exercise, or joint specific/muscle specific exercise WRT to the findings of this study? Especially since exercise is very limited during rehab. Following a should injury, how should one take/use collagen and how should one maximize use of collagen in terms of exercise. Does cycling or other non-shoulder intensive exercise increase collage supplement utilization for the shoulder injury, or only exercises for that joint? Thanks!

Love the content! I usually take collagen supplementation but I recently pulled my hamstring and do you think the collagen supplementation can help heal my injured hamstring? After taking the supplementation I usually use a heat pad to get blood flow to that area as I can't really exercise on it.

I love that approach!! You might also want to consider adding in BPC-157 and Stem Regen. Those two pack a mean punch when it comes to healing acute injuries! You can find them here - regenerativeperformance.com/supplements

@@DrewTimmermansND Thanks, but the authenticity of stem cell supplements being effective for healing muscle injuries seem to be very minimal to my knowledge so I'd have to pass also considering its expensiveness.

Hi there Drew, I've seen that you recommend over 20g daily for helping with healing injuries. I'm trying to heal chronic tendinitis and currently taking 4800 mg daily, do you consider that very low to do anything? Should I up the dosage and/or take marine collagen? I'm taking it with vitamin C and magnesium. Thank you very much 👍

@-Rodrik
@-Rodrik 27 күн бұрын
@@alysonstump9670 I think it helped. But I also did PRP twice, once in shoulder capsule and once in the tendon, spaced 2 months apart. That seems to have helped. Now I'm doing physiotherapy for shoulder instability.

Hello, i got severe collagen damage because of Fluorchinolons (Ciprofloxacin). Have you ever treated this condition and what are your takeaways from it if you did so? Thank you:)
@DrewTimmermansND

Yes we have treated it before and we've helped some people out of some bad places. Our approach is to combine intensive systemic therapies with interventional orthobiologics, as we've found this to be the most beneficial.
