At 19:42, you passed the old residence of Michael Swango, an American serial killer who is estimated to have been involved in as many as 60 fatal poisonings. Back in 1984, Swango worked as an EMT in Quincy for the Adams County Ambulance Corps. Some of the staff began noticing that whenever Swango prepared the coffee or brought any food in, several of them usually became violently ill, with no apparent cause. He is serving "Life without parole".

Not sure that you are still seeing likes and comments but I loved it so much! This tour took me past the Maid Rite, the home I grew up in (50s-72) on 12th. It passed by the corner where I sold newspapers on Sunday morning (12th & Main) when I was 12-13 years old and sooooo. I have more. What a great town to grow up in…thanks for the drive through:-)

Through this tour I did not see a hospital or an airport sign. Where is that? Also, this town reminds me of the days when I lived in Iowa. A place called Kingsley/Pierson. The nearest city is 30 miles away called Sioux City. Rich farmland with fields as far as the eye could see, friendly neighbors, balmy summers, storms and tornados, and every house had a basement. Quincy looks like it's affordable to buy a starter home there if you are comfortable with a sleepy town, or if there is work in your field that draws you there. Thanks so much for the tour.

Hey! I grew up there so I can answer. The hospital is pretty big and located downtown on Broadway street. He didn't drive on Broadway, which surprised me because it's the busiest street with the most businesses. As for the airport, if you continue on Broadway street, it eventually turns into highway 104. The airport is on that highway just outside of town. It's a tiny airport, but it works haha.

Ok, enjoyed the tour through parts of Quincy but you missed a lot of Quincy's real beauty! South Park overlooking the mighty Mississippi, gorgeous Maine Street with all it's beautiful homes and Broadway where most of the action is happening. Every city has it's high and low points but please return and take the two opportunities you had to stroll down Maine and Broadway then venture into South Park for optimum views. Go on a sunny day! Thanks for your data and insights. 👍🏻🇺🇸

I failed to explain it much in this video but I mentioned it briefly... basically it started to rain and I had no choice but to wrap it up before I wanted to. I was actually going to the mall after the college and then I was going to head down Broadway for the whole length, but you can see at the end how the rain stopped me.

Maine St, from 4th to 30th, is can’t miss, from downtown to the grand old victorian mansions. Also the old Dick’s Brewery generated a lot of early wealth. And Front St along the river was there for the warehouses storing & shipping goods from the river to the railroads & vice versa. Lastly, ice was harvested from & stored along Quinsippi Bay in the days before refrigeration. Some of that ice was shipped south along the river.

Nice job, Chris. Quincy's heyday occurred when the Mississippi River (and rail) was the major mode of transporting goods. In recent decades, Quincy has existed as a stable, working-class community. Those with an interest in Quincy might enjoy other KZfaq videos made here. There are many old, historic homes that have been well-preserved. There are an abundance of architecturally significant properties here. Please come back and cruise the mansions on Maine street, Jersey, East Ave, etc.

CA exodus fled to Hannibal, MO (Me!). Quincy has success in aggression. "Don't fret Hannibal and Keokuk, it'll be Quincy writing and publishing your newspapers!" I love Hannibal. It is where dreams can come true. June 2020, I bought a house high up in the hills, a fixer upper for $17,000. I love it here. Supposedly, Quincy has a mall, which is my only interest, because I need some new clothes and have difficult sizing. No way am I driving to St. Louis.
@ChrisHarden
@ChrisHarden 3 жыл бұрын
Yup... that's the downside to moving to a place like Hannibal. The Quincy Mall might have some selections but it's likely very limited. I can't say for sure as I haven't been there but that's how most malls in towns the size of Quincy are. Not trying to be Mr. Negative as it's awesome that you're loving Hannibal, but in my opinion that's always been the biggest negative of living in isolated small towns... you often have to drive hours away in order to experience the better amenities that are typically found in larger cities.

@Ryan No problem. A lot of Quincy Illinoisans are aware of your Quincy, the bigger one, and how it's pronounced differently. While the poster of this video made a sincere effort to document the town's streetscapes and offered some interesting info about Quincy, it's not as drab as portrayed. The weather that day certainly didn't help. He also missed some major (and more attractive) parts of the town like Maine Street, which includes the main part of the downtown business district and a one-mile spread of beautiful historic mansions; and Broadway, the main thoroughfare, where the majority of Quincy's businesses are located. He also missed the "newer" post-WWII neighborhoods on Quincy's periphery, where, not surprisingly, most of the money is nowadays. But thanks for bringing up the differences in pronunciation of the two Quincys.
