I don’t mind the slow weight loss; I want to learn how to eat right. I love the psychology they incorporate in the program. I needed to “ feed my head”. I feel like it’s a great program.

I'm 3 months into Noom and have lost 19 lbs. Yes. It's slower than I'd like, but I feel better and I have a healthier attitude towards food. I'm not that thrilled with the daily lessons but overall I love the app for tracking food, weight, and exercise. I've tried lots of the recipes and been happily impressed . I pad $147 for 5 months so I feel it's been worth it.

I love the psychology with Noom because I was at the point in my life that I thought I might need meds and a therapist, but between starting Noom and the structure of the lessons every day and digging into my serious food issues, and also taking another self help course (not weight loss related) I am doing great, letting go of my past issues and focusing on getting healthy so I can enjoy my 60's and Noom is really helping me with this.

I'm so glad you said something at ~10mins about how it doesn't account for health issues, type 1 diabetic and I have thyroid issues, I really want something that can help me with that.

"Comparing yourself to others is the thief of joy"... congrats on your weight loss and hope you reach your goal eventually. You have the rest of your life to be your ideal weight so what's a few extra months of time to get there? Slow and steady.

My experience was very similar. I’ve since been doing keto and intermittent fasting (14:10) and it’s the best! It completely stopped the blood sugar spikes and feeling of being sick like you described. Insulin resistance is extremely common and why switching to a low carb diet can work better.

Hi Jenn, thanks for this review, I have seen lots of ads for this and wondered what it is all about. I had success with a program out of a small Southern Ontario grocery store called Goodness Me. The program is called Lifewatchers and the book used is Discover the Power of Food (you can buy it in store without doing the course and the course can also be done online). It worked very well for my blood sugar levels, I was a hangry person when I got hungry, it really helped. Their focus is on protein, fat, fibre and net carbs (carbs minus fibre). It also, taught about how the body works, especially with regards to insulin. There was a section in the book about thyroid function so they do recognize that it has a roll in weight gain. There are so many factors into why you might not be losing weight even if you're at 1200 calories. One of them could be to do with not drinking enough water as well as actually starving yourself. When you find a BMR calculator you'll find out that the base calories to live for yourself are likely more than 1200. Mine was 1450 for example. Apparently your body goes into slowdown when you're starving and saving it's precious calories for the most essential organs and their processes. (You might start to feel sluggish, less brain focus, etc..) When it's slowing down it also slows down your metabolism. Also don't forget muscle weighs more than fat so you might be gaining muscle and feeling like you're not losing. So if you're hitting this plateau perhaps up your calorie intake by like 250 and drink some more water. Please don't feel discouraged ❤️

Thanks for your passionate review of Noom. I started the trial period last week and so far I love it (I majored in psych - it's a good review for me as it's been a while 😃). I listened to another personal review just before this and she mentioned there were add-on sections to do with diabetes, etc. Thyroid issues might be one of them but I haven't checked yet.

I’m about 3 months in Noom and my weight loss has been extremely slow too! I thought it was just me. It seems like everyone else is losing weight faster than me lol. And I agree about the articles. The articles were great in the beginning but midway through it got a little bit too “self help” for me per se and I lost steam in reading them everyday. Thanks for your review!!!!

It’s like school! When you reach high school, they just enlarge on the things you’re already learned during the formative years! Those who apply themselves will understand what is going on. They are preparing you fly on your own . The library is there for reference. I encourage you to save those core lessons and repeat them! I think this is the best program that I’ve ever tried. We must be reasonably. We didn’t get overweight overnight; yet most of us want to be transformed in a month or two. Well… you can! You can transform your thinking! Once that is achieved the sky is the limits!

I have been on Noom for 2 1/2 months and enjoy it. I need the routine of weighting myself every day, logging my meals, which I think is so easy to due and a look forward to my daily lessons. I have worked with my coach on occasion and was very pleased with the results. It was amazing to see how many red foods that I was eating that I was not aware of. I am very pleased with my decision to join Noom, it is the first time I have ever signed up for a weight course.

I know it’s been a year since you aired this video thank you for making it- I’ve been thinking about trying noom to lose my baby weight and for accountability. Having gone to a nutritionist after struggling to lose weight have my first baby ( I just had my 2nd) one of the first things she told me was causing me to hold weight was not eating Enough- if you were only eating 1200 cal a day that may have been your problem too. She said that is the most reason women struggle to lose weight on diets. That being said 15 lbs is something to be proud of and I hope you’ve gotten any answers you needed about your thyroid.

Losing more than about a pound a week is a perfect recipe for regaining whatever you lose back, and then some. Slow and steady is the recommended pace for those who keep weight off for more than five years.

I've seen ads pop up for Noom multiple times, so it's nice to know more about the program! I'm sorry that you didn't see the results you were hoping for! It definitely sounds like you need some blood work done. If you aren't able to get very far with your family doctor, you may want to look into seeing a naturopath. Although I haven't had weight issues, I have struggled with hormone health and found that regular doctors were not helpful at all. A naturopath could help you get to the root of the issue. Hope you are able to figure out what's going on, bodies can be so complicated!

Hi Jenn. I thought this was honest and the feeling of lots of us! Following 1300cal a day, I lost 1lb a week. There are those people who drop faster - and when you are in your group, that can be disheartening. I do have a sluggish thyroid. So I think I prepared mentally for a battle and slow loss. I wanted to lose 40lbs, but I honestly didn’t think I could do it. I just focussed on 20lbs. It took me 4mos to lose 20lbs. I was so happy and feeling incredible and hadn’t changed anything I couldn’t live with forever. I kept going and lost the 40lbs in 10mos. I have an under grad in cognitive psychology - believing in CBT is why I joined Noom despite not believing in organized diets. I still found the psych aspect a lot if you really invested in it and did the work. The 16week course took me 11mos to complete. The exercises are grounded in motivations … and even the ones I hated (a few!) had value. Because of the pricing, it was cheaper to buy a year than 6mos, and so I’m very glad I bought a year. Needless to say, being at my goal weight for the better part of a year has been life-changing.

The weight loss comes off a lot faster when you take care of the psych part of it. When you’re able to get out of your head and you don’t have any questions as to “what’s going on” you have a better focus and you get better results. Noom did great for me personally

before you mentioned thyroid it came to my mind that might have been the problem , I have a loved one who has a thyroid problem has that exact problem , she walks a lot , eats mindfully , but the thyroid certainly slows weight loss down , but thankyou for this very helpful video , puts it all into context .

15 lbs is great for her age. slow and steady wins the race. if you gain the weight back fast then you NEED physiological help. hence the abundance of psychological help the app provides. you took time to gain the weight it will take time to lose it. if you lost weight overnight you wouldn't respect the journey.

Thank you for your honest review. I have thyroid issues, too, and thyroid was the first thing that came to mind when watching this. Getting that taken care of is very important! Now that I have taken care of mine (with complete removal and the right replacement medication and dose), I'm finally losing some weight that I'd gained over the last few years of thyroid issues.

Yes Noom weight loss is slow but sure. I don’t mind melting away, as long as the weight disappears! In spite of the scale , you will feel and look better! People will tell you ! You will see and feel it yourself! I started Noom April 15, 2022. It’s now June 21;2022! I worked hard; but could have done better with eating the right foods. I’m slowly losing the weight. I can’t say anything but , Thanks Noom!

Yikes that sucks! Wondering if the calorie budget you have is too high or too low? Starving can slow down metabolism.

I think Noom says that 1 lb per week is a healthy amount to lose for sustainability. Every time I’ve lost weight slower I tend to fluctuate less for a longer period of time.

Hi I know it’s been a year since you publish this video but I wanted to stop and said thanks a lot for sharing your review and your testimony. I am in the same boat but a little desperate and hands down with the weight loss process. I have checked my thyroid several times, I am sealing my gut, supposedly eating healthy and clean, running 3 times a week and I haven’t lost a pound on the last month. Something is happen with my body and today I feel so hopeless and discouraged. I came out to the Noom app, hopping this can do or teach me something I don’t know that probably can work this time. I will be happy with 15 pound less in four month because I’d been eating and exercising since 2019 and I am still in the same block 😢😢 Thanks again! I would like to know if you discovered something with your thyroid? You also should open a weight loss support group that will help much people and maybe also you. Have a blessed day

I have diabetes 3 years ago and I am taking metformin. I did intermittent fasting and only 2 weeks I’m off from metformin. I’m glad that my diabetes is gone for nearly 3 years now, my doctor is so impressed.

I'm a few months into Noom, and I'm feeling pretty similar! Like, I *feel* better in general with some of the diet changes I've made, but the actual weight is extremely slow coming off. I know in my case it's a mix of some health conditions as well as still being stuck home, so I haven't decided if I'm going to stick with it when the subscription is up. Also I'm in the middle of the self-help-y stuff, and I'm over it.

Hey Hannah, thanks so much for this review. I'm in the same boat as you. I pretty much only gain weight even though I'm very active and eating the right amount of calories. I finally saw a naturopath and had my hormones checked turns out that I have incredibly high estrogen. Which is making weight loss very hard. I'm hoping that with the help of my doctor I'll finally see some results. Hopefully you will also figure out what's going on with your health. I just wanted you to know you're not alone and that it can be very discouraging.

A lb a week is awesome. I think we expect too much of ourselves sometimes but that’s a very healthy weight loss rate. Mine is very similar, even slower probably but feeling stronger and fitter and much more rounded in my approach to food.

Noom has recently changed RED to ORANGE because they know people have thought distortions over colors i.e., RED = STOP! or NO! vs ORANGE being more about moving with caution and portion control.

Im in 2 weeks with noom i really think that the daily task to change my mindset and steer to the correct directions is good i lost 3 kg plus exercise and food intake. slowly but steady is the way. rather than crash n pile up all over again

2:45 I just started yesterday & their introduction specially said that’s not true for the colors but I’m not sure why they chose those colors then….It showed a pie chart for the daily goal to be almost broken into thirds. Kinda confusing.

I've lost 30 pounds on Noom in 2 and a half months, so it seems to be working. I have 15 more pounds to go, however, and those are the tough ones.

I’ve been using Noom for 3 months and I’ve lost 20 pounds :) Also avocado is considered a yellow food because it’s a healthy fat.

Slow weight loss is better because it is a program you can live by. Many programs offer much faster weight loss, but when you start to eat again it all comes back and then some. I was on a keto type deit and lost 30 lbs in no time, but it wasn't sustainable, so the weight came back. On noom so far in 3 months I have alost 18lbs, but it is a lifestyle change that I can live by. I can eat like this the rest of my life.

Thanks for your honest feedback. I've just started on the free trial and I truly believed that I need some major psyche shake-up on this whole weight loss thingy. Although I'm not too keen on logging everything that enters my mouth, but its a healthy habit I have to develop I guess. I've seen a lot of feedbacks on this program, but it's mostly comparing this diet to the keto diet or some other kinda diet. Which is not exactly what I want, cause it'll just confuse me even more. I know what the other diet program is about in the first place. So thanks for not doing that. I was just looking into the pro and cons of this program, which I think you did quite well in detailed. So here's to us and all the potentially fabulous noomers, may we have fun getting rid of excess baggage in our life.

Does the app sync with Samsung galaxy watch to see your steps/exercise?

I have an apple watch and it syncs. The calorie limit Noom gives you is the base line for completely sedentary people. The limit increases as you move each day. So all the people complaining the Noom calorie limit is too low and restrictive dont understand that doesnt include calories earned just by moving around. Mine usually ends up being between 1700-2000 calories per day.

My gf has been on this app, paid for it, since sometime in January. Being into fitness myself I've been following her progress. I need to be honest, i am not impressed so far. She has been staying under her target calories and gotten almost no positive results (weight loss). What is she doing wrong?

Please see your doc to see if you really have medical issues. That should be more important than weight loss imho. Thx for the review.

Cool updates. Thanks! Sounds like your liver or kidneys meed a reset. Maybe that's from emotional stress or even negative self-talk/thoughts. Try fasting! A friend of mine ate ever second day for a 12 span and would go 36 hours without food then 12 hrs with food, 36 off; 12 on.. It helps the rest and you can drop weight but sometimes more rest will be required during these transitions

Having experience with Noom and listening to your list of CONS, what you seem to be searching for is a personal dietitian and getting to the root of any possible medical issues that would interfere with weight loss. That isn't something any app should be doing; see a medical professional for input in those areas. Once you have your personal medical guidelines under your belt, then use NOOM as a way of tracking your food intake and activity (which you do mention). As someone who takes thyroid medication and has dealt with fibromyalgia in the past (acupuncture treatment worked for me as it does for about 60% of those suffering with FMS), it worked for me and one pound a week is a good rate of weight loss while not kicking off a starvation reaction in the body. I can't imagine trying to exercise with FMS; so painful and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. As far as the psychology goes, that is an important part of NOOM as each individual can identify personal food-related issues and habits that contribute to being overweight and learn how to self-correct. You did bring up a point on the personal coaches one is assigned. Some have been very good; others seemed to be working from a script rather than engaging me. The program has been revamped to allow for more social interaction with other groups of users who share your interests and issues. I'll see how that works for me. Best of luck while you work toward a healthier you. Noom occasionally runs deals on cost so it is possible to catch the program at a reduced price.

I had to pay for noom the first day. I going to get off of Noom because it was too expensive then they gave me something else and then had me pay $20.00 for it a month because I wanted to try it out for myself.

Between August 16, 2019 and August 18, 2020, BBB received 1,213 consumer complaints regarding Noom, representing a significant uptick in complaint volume over previous years. Since July 2017, Noom has drawn a total of 2,023 complaints. According to complaints made to BBB, consumers reportedly try to cancel the trial offer before it ends but still end up being billed for the subscription. A number of these consumers said they believed that after the free trial the cost of monthly membership was between $20 and $40. Instead, they discovered that they were charged for several months up front upon the free trial’s end, resulting in alleged charges varying from $120 to $180 or more.

Well.. since Food is connected to emotions and emotional experiences... that's probably WHY the psychology there. Emotions: Sadness, breakup, boredom and Stress so you eat convenience foods.... Emotions positive: Birthdays, Vacations, Celebrations in general where people overeat.

My calorie budget is 1600+ a day and it works for me. I usually am full well before then if Im eating green and yellow foods.

I found that 1200 is too little. You need to know your BMR. My BMR is 2262 calories to lose like 1lb a week and I am 5”2 height. My first week I lost 4lbs without exercise.

I am one month into Noom & have lost nothing. I am very disappointed in the program. I don’t think I will continue after 4 months unless something changes.

I do GOLO. You can purchase the release supplement but don’t have to. It’s Nutritionists that teach you healthy balanced sized meals, 3 meals a day, no snacks. I stay full in between meals. It’s so easy and free unless you buy the release supplement

As someone with hypothyroidism, you should definitely be checked. I wish I would have done it sooner. I have lost 5 pounds in one and a half weeks with the help of Noom and honestly I’m not sure it would have worked if I hadn’t been taking thyroid meds. So please, if you have already get that checked. It could really help you!

Yeah, sounds like i'm very much like you. No diet has ever really worked for me because just a calorie deficit doesn't do it and exercise has no effect at all. The only thing that really worked for me was 5:2, on which i lost 60+ lb but about 12lb crept back on during covid. I know i've been 'cheating' on 5:2 though, so i guess i just need to get back on that horse.

6 mths 25 lbs. constantly rubber banding and stuck at 25 lbs. It’s gotten to the point of being more discouraging than motivating. My personal trainer is nonexistent. They initially would do a shout out at the end of the day on Friday “hope everything is going well. let me know if you have any questions. i’ll be available again on Monday” then that quickly stopped. For what you pay I would have expected them to look at my progress and provide tips to motivate me or point me back in the right direction. But nothing. I don’t even go into the group chat anymore since all you read are “did yoga for 15 mins and lost a hundred calories” just stop. The articles are focused on a specific group of ppl. Hanging out with your friends, going to dinner or the movies with your friends, hanging out with your co-workers after work. I do none of that. Then in the articles there are forced questions that most don’t relate to me and you can’t continue the article or even skip to the next article for that day. So i’m not even reading them anymore. I am eating better and feel better about that and more energy. But still not even remotely where I need to be after 6 mths!

overeating IS and does have a psychological component behind it! I can't believe a person with a degree in psychology labeled this as a con. what a mess. if you can't fix the psychological portion of why people eat so much then there will always be problems /over weight hence why gastric bypass doesn't work. people still eat eat eat and need the psychological portion addressed.

I am looking to break an unhealthy sugar habit that began when I was attacked for the first time in my life. So I have been eating sugar since then. Used to need gum just to ride the subway and now I am ok. To me I felt like I dealt with it but the fact that I still eat sugar means I am not. So not so sure that this will work as that is the only unhealthy thing I eat. Do not even eat meat.

Have you been checked for PCOS? It affects your insulin resistance, and makes it very difficult to lose weight.

Yes, I would check Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). Also, I noted when watching your video, you may have hyperlipidemia. It would be worthwhile to have a complete blood panel checking everything! Good luck to you on your journey! I have been on Noom for 8 days and have lost 8 lbs.. For me, the psychological piece was what I was missing from my previous programs, so I’m anxious to see how my initial weight loss goes.

Calories in food are not created equal. Fasting seems to be the best way I can lose. Higher fats too. Did you say olive oil yellow?? That's not right.

a pound a week is good. a pound a week is healthy. If you lose fifty pounds in a year that's great. Especially when the alternative could possibly involve gaining weight. I'm not impressed by Noom after one day but I feel like I have no choice. I have to do something. On my own I have reached the point where I know how not to gain weight. But that means I'm carrying an extra 80 or 90 pounds and there's no end to the issues that creates for me, emotional as well as physical. So I'm going to hope for one pound this week.

Eating is diversified for everyone and different things for different body types and metabolic rates, SO, what I noticed from her introduction to NOOM is that although you can’t eat bad fats all the time and eat sugar, the red green and yellow concept is part of the SAD diet!! Hey researchers get back to the laboratory and see what food groups raises your insulin ..Besides I-use almost all of keto principal’s and am losing weight because I watch my carbs and and take in good fats, excessive. and guess what? I don’t need a psychologist to tell me I’m fat because I have issues, I already know that so that empowers me to use my brain to figure out if I’m gonna eat I better foods and not 24/7, so I also intermittent fast not eating after 7 pm! Use what God gave you and stop making people like NOON rich off your weaknesses! Eat healthy and wisely…

Get checked for hashimotos. You seem to have and enlarged thyroid and that’s often the reason. Hypothyroidism. But make sure they do the antibody test and not just the Tyroid hormone test.

If yoir medical check up turns out fine, it may be that this was too restricted and that's why your metabolism slowed. 1200 calories actually isn't enough even for survival. Most people need around 1400 in a coma! You'll figure it out though! This was a great review!

@@JennLeast I tried 1200 calories myself! Found out my own total daily energy expenditure and turns out I can lose a pound per week while eating 1700 calories. Way more food! You can calculate your own tdee online: )

I agree 1,200 calories is usually to low for most people. A lot of people don't lose weight at 1,200 calories.
