In This video episode we start the video after a long hiatus on a voyage south in the Cog towards Happy Bay. Sailing mostly against the wind we have to be very carful with how we angle the square sail so as not to tip over and capsize. We wake mostly have clear skies and the vision of Mount Malefic vanishes behind us the horizon. We have some fish, water and save the rum to celebrate later if and when we eventually see land. Not yet however. We still have many days and nights at sea ahead of us.
We are only just starting to get to grips with the square sails of the Cog ship.
We do not end up sinking a in this episode, but we do have some scary moments. Sailing upwind with the square sailed cog remains very challenging
Towards the end of the episode we catch a blue shimmertail fish which is a good omen and the next morning, when we wake, the sea is an emerald green colour. We finish the episode as the rain comes in and we find ourselves waking up into the middle of a storm!
One day we'll get the brig, so we better be ready!
That might take quite a bit of gold!
But really, check out the glorious sunrise and sunsets in Sailwind, for it is indeed a beautiful and immersive game!

What a welcoming message! Thank you so much! It does amaze me how my actions can inspire people to spend their free time in a different way than they would have. I wonder how that changes the future in some kind of butterfly effect. Maybe I'm getting a bit too philosophical now! :D

33:30 -- RE: Slow As Molasses, "...some kind of Treacle I think..."; Not quite! First, Moe-Lass-es is the way to say it. It's partially refined sugercane and in the age of sail it was put into kegs for long distance transport and storage. It gets very thick when its cold, but super runny when hot. Molasses forms one of the key ingredients in the refining of Rum. The cheapest home-brewed rums of all would be using the dregs of an emptied barrel of molasses for the sugars rather than the molasses itself. o7 to you good sir, your conversation put my own sailing on pause while I typed the reply. I'm currently on a voyage in my own Cog from Fort Aestrin to Happy Bay too. My ship is set up a bit different, more like a mini Sanbuq with two lateen sails and the low cabin. This is the first iteration that has actually survived sailing the open ocean! I've been everywhere on and off the map but the one thing I haven't done is gone trans-oceanic in a starter ship. Definitely a different kind of challenge!

Looks like we are on a similar voyage at the moment, although with slightly different vessels. I haven't done much editing of ships yet. I like the idea of getting the feel for the original configuration before making any drastic changes. Glad you are able to survive on the high seas now though! :) Hope you enjoyed the video!

You have to be masochist to sail that "cog". She has about the same size of the Junk but, unlike Junk You can't put any cargo below the deck. Unlike the Junk, the deck is high above the the waterline. Which means, in this "cog" You can't really carry any cargo safely without a risk of tipping the boat over. I suggest to never use a cog. Just start the game with dhow, which is a best among the smaller vessels and then go get the Junk or Sanbuq as more seaworthy vessels for a longer voyage. I have crossed the ocean in dhow, but I had to slightly downgrade the rigging with smaller gaff sail to make it more stable in open seas while in Emerald Archipelago I was sailing my dhow with a very large gaff and getting across many places very fast safely.

Hey, thank you for your comment! Yes, the cog is the trickiest vessel I have sailed so far but it's still fun and the square sails add a new challenge to it. We started this series in the Dhow in episode one. The whole series is one continuous playthrough so far. I think it was episode 10 then we set sail on a long voyage to emerald isles in the dhow. I loved the dhow, the only issue is that it feels a bit claustrophobic with not much space to walk or store stuff. We haven't tried the junk yet in this series. That will probably be the next ship! @@PorthosUK In my personal playthrough, before the big trading update, I sailed my dhow to the Aestrin with an idea to buy a cog as replacement for dhow and I figured I should buy and sail the brig instead.

might be too late and i have raved on my videos on this game. you can fish and use winches while holding rod. even reel in if you use wheel. you dont HAVE to stand at back of boat and wait. turn and watch compass and turn wheel all while getting dinner. GL

Compass and Quadrant are all I use. Just let the wind push you to about 37, then head south. The wind will kind of force you to Happy Bay, then down to Archipelago.
