When I was a child I used to do something horrendous. I took slices of bread and like two slices of cheese, wi would toast the bread, put the cheese between the toasted slices of bread and then put it in the microwave for like 30 seconds, a couple times I skipped the toaster step and just heated up bread and cheese. As an adult I see why my parents were so disgusted.

Anything you get that heats up usually has a weird smell at first. It's weird but it does go away and usually doesn't effect anything. Also, if you like garlic bread, make that butter into garlic butter with some garlic powder (not garlic salt - that stuff is too strong) and you have a garlic bread grilled cheese. I have done it many times. It has a different overall taste (obviously) but also delicious.

So that's really just a normal toaster that says grilled cheese on it, ain't it? 😂

I'm glad you made it work for you. I think that's a thing a lot of reviewers don't do for most products. They see the commercial for something, they try it one time in every way they saw in the commercial or on the box and then if it doesn't work as expected first time it gets a bad rating. I think if I spent my money on something I would try and find a way to make it work for me even if it takes a little trial and error. Once you have it figured out just follow the steps you created and BAM! Perfect grilled cheese every time. The smile on your face as you ate the last one really showed how good it was 😂

On the rare occasion I make a grilled cheese sandwich, I use a regular toaster. I slammed the bread slices/cheese with a mallet to compress it to make fit into the narrow toaster inserts.

You should try using those sandwich clamps in a regular toaster to determine whether they just sold you a toaster with the clamps just so they could sell it for a higher price

You can buy grilled cheese toaster bags for like $5 on Amazon (or Walmart or probably your local grocery) and they're reusable. And there's no worry about grease fire from butter. Trust me you should try them!

Its a cheap toaster design, that's why the middle element is hotter than the outside elements. Try flipping the cradle around for the second cycle. So the outer toast becomes the inner toast, and run the second cycle on a lower heat. BTW you can just lay a normal wide slot toaster on its side and do open face grilled cheese then slap the pieces together when its done ; )

The reason why one side of the sandwiches are darkening/burning more than the other is because the heating elements along the outside walls are cooler. The heating elements look to be mounted on plates that secure them to the rest of the toaster body. Air will flow directly over all 4 of the heating elements, but the outside elements will be cooler because more air can flow along the space behind the plate between the inside of the toaster casing and the heating elements. The heating elements in the center are hotter because there is no/less air flow behind the central elements, the pair of heating elements in the center essentially build/retain heat better because the other side the mounting plate has another heating element, not an air gap like those behind the outside plates.

Pretty sure you're supposed to pre heat the toaster first. Might get better results with the butter

I like these kinda videos haha. Also every oven -microwave and other kitchen appliances need manual fine tuning that u master in years of usage for example my oven needs 200c for 25 minutes instead of 180c for 16 minutes of pizza. They just come out way better

I’ve literally got a toaster that does that and it’s game changing I make the best cheese and ham toasties ever I would recommend putting a light coating of butter on the outside of your sandwhich it’s insane. You then open it up after it’s toasted and then you make a crisp sarnie and bang it’s a winner. That’s right I used English slang for this description because that’s how I make a toastie

Pro tip - melt the butter and get a basting brush to paint on the butter to the bread. Let it soak in and then cook. No more torn bread and still browns/Burns nicely

Just to comment on the drip tray confusion, the bottom one is the a crumb tray, and on each sandwich holder is the drip tray on the bottom joing the metal "cage/frames" of the holders. And he should've used the preheat button first to get the overall temp right before lowering it in. But otherwise always great videos

@TylerTube in my experience toasters are always a bit uneven being hotter in the middle because of elements on both sides, I would recommend buttering after toasting to get that buttery toasted flavor texture combo that you are seeking also,. for a crispier bread when grilling less is more as far as butter is concerned

There's three buttons .Is it like a bagel maker that the two buttons controls the heat on the outside heat panels? Bagels you generally brown the cut side and heat the outside. Just saying cause my toaster has those buttons for that function.

Clearly the center heating elements are hotter because there is no thermal barrier in the center. So the side toward the center will always burn more than the outside.

Well, I like to put butter on the inside, then a couple of slices of cheese, and sometimes I will spread some Miraclewhip inside as well. And I know you will turn your nose up to that but don't knock it until you try it.

If u make 1 sandwich at a time it will b fine. Cooking 2 at the same time heats the center up extra and causes the inner sides to cook faster.
