Omg I have so many stories. I was criticized for getting a hatchback because it wasn’t a good field service car that I could haul a bunch of sisters that I didn’t even like around. At the time I was too people pleasing to clap back but it was so rude and audacious. I got what I could afford - what makes you feel you have the right to high key hate!? Some of them were just ridiculous!

It's the insecurity that makes them talk about others ,I have changed congregations like 6,including countries and everywhere I went they are all the same, always finding faults with others that's what they do

So on point w this topic. . . What sux the most is that because of child indoctrination you know nothing but people pleasing. It's so embedded into your persona. Always being reminded: "Just because you have the right to do or say doesn't mean you should if it makes your brother stumble." As a pimo, I was blinded for too long being told to only please them which gives me depression, lowering myself even more. 12:49 Same here as an introvert myself yet I'm still forced to. A way to "not be lonely" or "grow association more" when clearly they dont get the memo that I enjoy being alone Edit: The stumbling part I definitely took too personal twice! First time was when I was 18 and my Dad, a non-believer thankfully and who I barely talk to, decided not to shave off my beard (Grew my first beard at 16) and being honest, me without facial hair makes me feminine. Made my full-believing mother very angry she threatened me of either staying or not staying in the school which how my depression started. Next stumbling threat happened when I was posting motivational posts for 2 to almost 3 yrs on insta when again my mother, who never followed me but silently tracking my social which is embarrassing, threatened me again stating that I'm going "against the "friends/brothers and sisters" as well as "jehovah" when clearly those posts have nothing to do with them and she still took that personal. Which is why I hide in my bedroom, avoiding ever talking to any of the members

You guys explain the damaging effects of being in this organization so well. I still struggle with low self-esteem and people pleasing after leaving. I know I have feelings of anxiety and depression. I even lost a lot of my hair probably due to emotional distress. It’s not that noticeable to others, but I feel a difference in my head.

One time a white sister told me my music could cause someone to stumble… I honestly don’t know why she cared because one of my favorite genres is reggaeton (I’m Latina🇵🇷) but anyway this sister (one of my bullies) does not even know Spanish, but her friend Gabi from Bolivia told her some of that music has provocative & sexual lyrics. And being that Gabi is definitely one of those goody-goody people and she was born in raised in “the truth” and all her family & all her friends back in Bolivia are JWs, and she was taught that everything “worldly” is provocative and sexual. So another thing I got in trouble for (which thar sounds ridiculous to say “I got in trouble) but my music I got talked to for too. And in 2019 I had a crush on a brother (as most women like him) that man is Fine. But one of my bullies who I gotta add also liked him, tells me “You’re not his type for dating…. And “he just isn’t into Latinas. He said himself his type is white or black women.” Girl stop. You just like him yourself. Stop saying Im not his type because “he isn’t into Latinas…” tf…🤦🏽‍♀️

Every JW I know is a people pleaser. The exJWs I’m friends with, myself included, are still struggling with being people pleasers. We’re all in therapy, all on antidepressants and fighting the urge to cry when we set a normal boundary 😂

I’ll never forget when a “sister” and I were going out in service. She got into my car and when I cranked up the car my radio was on and she turned my radio off. I was like WTH!!!

When my mother passed away, 99.9% of the service was about how much she loved her “friends” in the Kingdom Hall and proselytizing the religion. Barely any mention of her daughter, son and 3 grandchildren. I have her ashes. Not sure what to do with them. 🤷‍♀️

I remember back in the day, they taught you would have J.O.Y. if you put J.ehovah first then O. thers and Y. ourself last. In my head, I was like why do I gotta be last to have JOY? I was accused of being selfish by my mom ALL THE TIME. My first brand new off the showroom floor vehicle was a truck, because I like trucks. Well I wasn't thinking about Jehovah and how I could choose a vehicle to use in the ministry. I had to pay that car note - and I wanted the vehicle I wanted. I remember somebody from the KH wanted me to pick up a lady & her 4 kids and bring her to the meeting. 🙄 I told her at most I could do was bring her & one kid, but not 4 kids. She was like, "It'll be okay her kids are small." I told her, "No, I don't feel like that would be safe." Then she was like, "Well 3 of them can ride in the back in the bed." (Back then it was legal.) Again, I told her I wouldn't be comfortable doing that." Then I get a smart azz, "Now I bet you wish you got a car." Well the heathen in me wasn't going to let that be the last word. "No, I got the brand new 1988 Cardinal Red Toyota truck off the showroom floor that I wanted and you??" Yes, it got uglier. Plus, I HATED them daggone bible guessing games!! If it wasn't related to a bible story - I NEVER got any of them right. I always got Moses & Noah mixed up.

I can really appreciate how you two are here with this platform for the generation behind you and your age are suffering so much in the untruth.. but some have to wait until they are of age to get out of they’re parents home to be free.. 😢😢 it’s so sad the pressure I see.. So true. I was nurtured to always put the interest of others ahead of mine. Because of that, l was constantly taken advantage of. I never thought about myself but for others. I was also taught to suck it in when l was severely bullied right from childhood. I was told to see bullying as a form of persecution just like Jesus was been persecuted. Standing up for onself is deemed as rebellion. I was told to let it go, so that when next I see the bullies during field service, l should use the bible to draw them closer to Jehovah. Not as if the bullies care. 😂😂

My jw cousin decided she was going to help another non jw cousin plan a family reunion. Majority of family is not nor ever been Jw. So on our fb reunion page she posted something and asked me to accept her as a friend so she could tag me . I said no we are not friends. We grew up together and I take a offense to the way she treats me now like we are just acquaintances and she looks down her nose at me. I've never been JW so sorry we are not friends I am not friending you on face book. We are both 63 I've been around the sun a few times so I don't waste my time to play that game. I've been watching this so I have some idea how to deal with her when reunion comes up next month. I have resentment but I want to just be tactful. Boundries!!!

Pretending to be overly spiritual while you’re secretly sinning in another area was an attempt to over sell your spirituality to make it believable. I had friends who would say stuff like “ I would never get a tattoo, if you know you’re doing something to upset Jehovah, why even play the fence and take that risk” meanwhile two weeks after I get disfellowshipped I get a Group FaceTime call. I’m confused because I’m thinking “yall shouldn’t be talking to me…” turns out they just got disfellowshipped too 💀💀 that made me question EVERYTHING!
