Part of a border collie 's role is to locate lost sheep and either return them to the flock or alert the farmer as to it's location. Ashepoo was simply following his instincts by following the boy and trying to either return him home or keep him in one place until the 'herder' arrived.

Something similar happened to me when I was around his age, maybe a year or two older. We lived on ten acres of land and about 8 of those were woods. I vaguely remember the day, but I remember wondering off and getting lost. Our family dog, who was also a collie breed, and our cat were with me the entire time and herded me back home. Shren, our collie, knew she needed to protect me and definitely those herding instincts kicked in. Mama Kitty, our family cat, was the most loyal and loving cat we ever had. She lived to be about 20 years old and I still miss her very much. Family pets can be amazing life savers.

THIS is why I love border collies. They are super intelligent, have good energy and they are amazing family dogs. The kid was protected by a border collie as was I when I was little (from running off, getting electrocuted, strangers, my own stupidity...etc) One of the best dogs you can have is a border collie

Saw a toddler cousin of mine start wandering away, their dog grabbed her by the diaper and made her sit down. One of the most remarkable things I've ever witnessed. :D

I had border collies for 20 years. I have no doubt that that dog considered that kid one of his "sheep" and was watching him closely because of it. Greatest breed out there.

When I was little, my parents had a chow/pit mix they got from a pup, a nanny dog, and he would follow me and my brother around like the dog in this video. Constantly watching us. And one day after very heavy snow, we went really deep into our backyard(country) and got lost because everything looked the same with white covering it. We could hear our mom very, very distantly calling out our names. So, we followed that bright brown/red dog, who very slowly led us, while he frequently looked back to make sure we were following, all the way back home. Don't know how many times he protected our family. Warned us about snakes, got a 3am trespasser down on the ground screaming for help, met us at the bus stop every day to walk us home, fought other dogs who showed aggression to us or anyone we were friendly with. He was an absolute heaven sent companion and I felt so safe as a child with that dog next to me.

My family rescued a German Shepherd years ago and I watched him crawl on his belly under a lot of logs to rescue a litter of puppies. He would bring out one in his mouth and go right back in for the next one. I was so afraid for him but they all came out safe and sound. He was a wonderful dog and a blessing to my family.

Years ago, we saved a border collie from being shot and adopted him. It took us six weeks of patience for him to trust us enough to come indoors into the kitchen. I spent countless hours waiting for him to trust me but in the end he did 100%. He led us to dumped stuff that thieves had tried to conceal and warned us when intruders were trying to break in. He seemed to have the knack of communicating to us who was trustworthy and who was not....RIP lovely Max.....

She said "where's Peyton?" Dog went right to him. That doggo is a priceless treasure.

This is a great story with a very happy ending. But why is everyone so astounded by what the dog did? That's what dogs do. They protect their family.

I grew up with dogs and I always felt safe with them around. They would stick with you, they led us to my brother when he was lost and they helped us find our way home before. Dogs have big hearts and are pretty smart. Most dogs, if they can save you they will.

When I was 2 or 3, my dad and grandpa were building our house-long time ago!! I loved being out with them. They finally had to put some nails and screws into a piece of scrap wood so that I wouldn't unscrew things from the frame. ANYTIME I was outdoors, our dog would actually keep the cuff of my jacket in it's mouth the entire time I was out. Pity the fool who might have thought about harming me. I think this dog looks incredibly like our dog did, as best as I can recall what happened half a century ago.

aww what a sweet and loyal pup! You can see he till thinks it's his job to watch the boy because he still follows him around. That boy will have a loving protector for the rest of the pup's life :)

To all those bitching on the parents, A similar thing happened to my child at around 4 years old, she used to visit an elderly neighbour and talk to her (and get sweets :) ) and her little bike was outside the woman's house as I worked on my car so we assumed she was inside the old woman's house. My wife was in the house and after not seeing our daughter for about 20 minutes (this was the middle of the day, so not dark or anything like it) she became concerned about where she was. After finding out she was not in the neighbours and our Collie cross was nowhere to be seen (who never left our sight) we knew she was with her. After 10 minutes we found our daughter safe and well with the dog walking beside her a short way from home. Never under estimate the intelligence of a dog. They can smell cancer, warn epileptics of impending fits, smell diabetics low blood sugar, and much much more, some even without training. Instead of focusing on the parents acknowledge the incredible things dogs can do for us. Truly Man's and humans best friend.

These dogs were trained for hundreds of years to protect cattle and sheep, really anything and herd them back to where they were supposed to be. This was a combination of instinct and love.

when I was a lil kid my grandparents samoyed would always be my side, saved me from a street dog,saved me from a snake, saved me from bees and saved my life by calling my grandparents and neighbours when I was having a seizure. Nothing unusual about the natural instinct of dogs to stay with and mentor their humans! I belong to a mounted search and rescue group! A couple of years ago we searched for and located an older man suffering from dementia who had been missing for over 40 hours. He had his Sheltie dog with him! Searchers were even diving in a nearby lake looking for him oblivious to the fact the dog was also missing! We located him because the dog responded with a bark when we rode close by. He was still with his owner, cuddled up helping keep him warm. That's what loyal dogs do!

Reminds me of back when my niece did the same thing when she was like 3 or 4 years old. My dad an I split up going through the woods in the direction we thought she might of gone because the day before my dad and I came from that direction in the woods after putting some fish we caught down at the creek. I found her because I spotted our dogs off in the distance in front of me through the woods on our neighbor's property. Than I saw my niece. The dogs is what helped me find her because they was fallowing her out there. When I got her I holleredout I found her and picked her up and carried her all the way back to the house. When I got there I saw at least around 50 or more people at the top of our driveway ready to help search for her.

I use to own a border collie, Great Dane mix. Acted just like this one. One day she was playing, and all can say is she was was running and jumping with such happiness, I never knew what made her so happy, but will never forget the look in her eyes as she played.

My husband had a japanese spitz-shih tzu dog who was so loyal to our son that he was with our kid the whole time whe we're at home. He saved our baby from being hurt so many times and watched him all the time, making sure he doesn't get near anything the dog feels dangerous. Dogs are very attached to their owners especially the little kids.

We absolutely love our border collie. The game we play is for him to find our son. (FIND BEN) we send Ben out to hide on our property (5 acres) and keep Dawson in the house. The dog whines and cries until he can GO FIND BEN. Inevitably, Dawson reigns triumphant! He finds him every single time and within minutes! We ❤️ our border collie Dawson!
