As a cat expert, cats show their bellies not as a trap, but as a kind of trustfall and they don’t like their bellies rubbed because their organs are unprotected under their belly. Some cats do like belly rubs though

Tip: If you want to pet cats, be calm, gentle, and approach them slowly. Don’t make fast movements, make slow ones. Also, cats’ bellies, are more sensitive there. They don’t show you their belly as a trap, but because they trust you. Also, cats do return affection, just in different ways than dogs. They might hunt an animal, and bring them to you, if they move their tail slowly, from side, to side, that means they like you,(but if they do that, but fast, that means they’re agitated,) and rubbing up against you legs, is also a sign of affection, kneading, which is where they sort of extend their paws, and claws/nails, is also a sign of affection, and-of course-purring. Meowing means they want your attention, or they need something. However, not *all* of the time, they purr to show affection. If they’re injured, and they’re purring, that means they’re healing, because purring, actually does help the healing, a bit. They can also sense when humans are sad, so they might come to comfort you, if you’re sad. And, if they do something wrong, they don’t feel guilt, but they are able to see that you are angry at them, so they’ll try to comfort you, as a way of saying sorry.

Side note: a cat showing It’s belly is a sign of trust. I know this because I am a cat person and yes I did learn this the hard way Edit: this is a side note, you have two options if a cat you don’t know/is a neighborhood cat shows you it’s belly, 1. Wait for it to roll back over 2. Try to scratch its cheek/fav spot (if accessible)

@@WubbleDubble1 yeah so story time I don't remember this that much but when I was in Georgia possibly about two maybe three I was a dumb stubborn and tricky lad there's a lot of hilarious baby stories but we had three cats two females one male the male ended up getting both of them pregnant we had 13 cats I don't exactly know what happened to all of them but when we moved to Florida (when I was five and I'm still living here at 22 almost 23) I had two cats named Iceman and I believe something that rhymed with bologna because I called her bologna and we're just going to call her bologna for the sake of this story was a very rude cat and I didn't really like her not many people in our family did but Iceman was a really nice cat I loved him with all my heart so we lost both of them come to find out after a while of searching and asking people people bologna was apparently lost in the woods she's dead by now I guarantee it and Iceman they actually saw a cat just like him getting run over by a car just by your street when we came home I cried for a long time it's just sad thinking about it but what happened in the past happened in the past she was my favorite cat and we have had a cat since but I've met a couple cats somewhere nice couple of mean and I remember my mom's friend having three cats one was shy but getting more braver as she saw us and the names were Cayro, Loki, and Teddy or tedrick Cayro and Loki were really nice cats but Teddy he was like a mix he was happy at some points and then suddenly mad at others that's basically all I remember about cats but yeah I agree you are lucky that you got a good one

Fun fact: Cats roll over and show their belly because they trust you. It's not cause they want belly rubs, and it's *not* a trap. We just misinterpret what they're doin. Update: more info, cats usually go for bellies when fighting eachother, due to the soft flesh of their belly, so they may see this as a sign of agression sometimes

Fun fact: cats roll over cause they think humans are kittens, they try to “train” humans by attacking them. Edit: I’m talking about when they roll over, you try to pet them, and they scratch at you. Some cats will allow you to rub their belly.

My cat doesnt think i'm a kitten if she straight up grabs a twist tie and demands me to throw it so we can play fetch but she still lets me rub her belly- I dont think thats the case pretty sure its a sign of trust since your weak spot is your stomach, 1 wound there and you might as well be known as deceased.
