The Justice Department held a news conference Thursday after announcing its antitrust lawsuit against Ticketmaster and its parent company Live Nation. The department accused the company of illegally monopolizing the live events industry.

Livenation really took advantage of the pandemic and went to over 180 venues in the US that we’re struggling financially and said “we will keep you alive during this difficult time and we will be 51% owners of your venue from here on out”.

I like how every company you mentioned has a viable competitor. Amazon competes with multiple online retailers and sellers, Google competes with Apple. Wanna see a concert? You have ONE option. There is a difference between what is popular with the public and what is just straight-up monopolized.

@lucasvolini Bing is owned by Microsoft which competes against Apple and Google in multiple spaces. Try to buy a concert ticket NOT through Ticketmaster. Good luck.

It will be atleast 5 or 10 years before this comes close to being resolved and my days of buying tickets for live concerts and sporting events is probably coming to an end within the next 18 to 24 months.

because elections are already secure. and this affects everyone. It's also a false dilemma. DOJ has more than one lawyer and can do multiple things at the same time. Having the government solely focus one a single issue to the exclusive of all else, especially if that one issue is overly political, just means nothing gets done and you have a broken system.
