Just a fast rocking killer tune -- The musicianship is really good, everyone knows George Lynch (The guys a guitar genius and MONSTER player) but the whole band just ripped on this CD, Mick Browns drumming is really underrated and holds it together, the whole band was tight.... Great song from start to finish and just listen to that "Guitar tone".. That guitar sounds likes its going to explode through the speakers, my goodness what a GREAT Marshall tone!!.. ... Hate Lynch. Go lift some more weights, & bulk up George. And don't forget the tanning bed. A guitar solo should in most every case FIT the groove & vibes of a song. And really "hate" isn't what I meant (just from the hip comment) and shouldn't have gone that far. I'm just not-much of a Dokken fan. Just another 80s "hair metal, pop band like Poison. However this tune is kick ass! Cool riffs & groove. Sorry (NOT sorry) I think Lynch is way, WAY overrated. He's no doubt a good guitarist. Did the solo go on too long? I think so. First part of the guitar solo was cool... but it went on & on too long. George & Ryan are very objective. They certainly didn't dead wrong. And CERTAINLY the "Lynch mob" fans are going to be pissed off. That's all I was responding to. George/Ryan are exceptional in their reviews of heavy Rock & Metal bands. Especially for a couple of guys who're really into Hip Hop and R & B even more so.

What I find interesting is near the end its like George and Don Dokken are battling for attention and trying to one up eachother almost. George shreds and Then Don yells in the most controlled skilled mix of singing maybe on the album and then George comes in again and then Don hits the high singing part again. It was like a little duel, which is funny because they were always bumping heads, especially around this time(1987)

Lynch is a beast! However, if you're looking for a phenomenal vocalist and some killer guitar play... David Coverdale and Whitesnake - Still of the Night Extreme (Nuno Bettencourt and Gary Cherone on guitar and vocals respectively) - Get the Funk Out (Play with Me would be a close 2nd) Mr Big (with Paul Gilbert and Billy Sheehan (bass)) - Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy / Alive and Kicking

Imagine back in the late 70’s you had George Lynch, Eddie Van Halen & Randy Rhodes playing all of the local nightclubs. The story goes when the record company came to sign a band George Lynch thought his band at that time exciter was going to be signed but Van Halen got signed instead, exciter broke up and Dokken was formed.

❤Dokken has SO many great songs!! Alone Again is a great love ballad by them. Dream Worriors was the song on Nightmare on Elm Street 3. It's Not Love, In My Dreams, Into The Fire and so many more!!! A great rabbit hole to get into!!!!❤ I totally agree about some guitarist just trying to play fast as possible or being technical and loosing keeping up with the melody of the song. But because the guitar solo is only in a small part of the song, I can set it aside IF the rest of the song is amazing. ❤😉

I’m gonna say that Don Dokken’s voice represents a good contrast. Sometimes you can have chocolate with peanut butter. A gritty singer on this song would not fit the style and tone. Haunting romance is not about dirt, which is why Metallica can’t do songs like this. Most people who like Dokken understand and appreciate the contrast which allows them to handle different subjects than Metallica would. It’s good to have both.

Good point Ryan. But, back in the day, these bands were structured to play solos like this. Guitarists were always trying to "one-up" each other with each new album. That is what made this era so much fun. You never really knew what was coming next, and surprised when you heard it for the first time!

I wouldn't call Don Dokken's vocals "operatic" but just typical Hair Metal vocals, which then went on to be the vocal style of most Power Metal bands into the modern age. They are of course "high pitched" and clean, as opposed to low, scratchy or growling Thrash Metal vocals.

I understand Ryan's point. Sometimes solos derail the song because they just simply do too much or it doesn't really blend well (ahem: Slayer). However, I don't agree that it's happening here. Yes, it could've been a little more polished but it still fit IMO. I tend to cut them some slack too because of the fact that they were a hair metal band. Good song choice for this group, appreciate that you guys pay attention to most or all the suggestions 👌

Exactly. It sometimes sounds downright confusing or even nonsense to the virgin ear. For example Megadeth's Loved To Deth sounded like a mess to me first time I heard it. It was so chaotic and fast I couldn't make anything of it. But the more I listened and understood what was happening, I loved it. And even more so if you play guitar. Same thing happens with guitar solos. Lynch's solo here is absolutely amazing to me because of his phrasing and note choices, but I can see how it may sound too weird to new listeners
