the difference is stunning, pinpoint placement in ATMOS on a huge soundstage / space. The stereo sounds like things are panned 'between' the headphone speakers , the ATMOS is outside your head...

@@thelivingroomstudios Sorry what i meant was instead of doing the stereo mix 1st Just go straight to the Atmos mix...and the use this to make the Binaural :) I released my 1st record on Apple Spatial two weeks ago and had not even heard it in Binaural only in the atmos on my 7.1.4 focal system.. I was pretty pleased with the result but believe i still have a lot learn after 30 years of mixing in stereo this is a new school day for sure.

This is the first time I've heard Atmos and to be honest I don't get it. I can hear the guitars are more behind me, but I don't really want to feel like the band are surrounding me. That's how you'd set up in a rehearsal. I want the band to be on stage playing to me, more as a collective unit. Being behind me screws with the visual images my mind creates as i can't see in both directions at the same time. Maybe it's just me? Thanks for the upload though.

With this song you can't do that neither with Atmos (because of the sounds to our sides) nor stereo because the voice it's too close and doesn't come from the front. So, your problem doesn't apply justo to Atmos, but to the way the song it's mixed in general.

Same for me, I don‘t get it. This binaural stuff does not work for me, a little bit wider but that‘s it. Don‘t believe this is immersive. Get a 7.1.4 speaker setup and play SW Harmony Codex, then you will know.

Good video. The link to the band, Viceode, does not work for me in the video description. I'm listening on Bowers & Wilkins P7 headphones. I'm not positive I hear any difference. To clarify, this mix was not mixed for Atmos originally? It's merely a stereo mix put through the Dolby Renderer? Thanks for the content. Liked & subscribed.

Thank you for watching and for the like and sub!!! What you are hearing is the original stereo mix (not mixed for Atmos) vs an up-mixed stereo to Atmos via up-mixer plugins (with a bit of audio mangling).

Sounds nice but from what you said at the start it sounded like you're just playing a stereo mix into the atmos renderer, which won't sound anywhere near as good as a mix with individual elements panned around the virtual space as objects. Is the binaural example in this video created with just a stereo mix fed into the atmos renderer or an atmos mix?

Yup. Just the stereo mix, "spatialized." And you are correct. In my experience the more stems, or even better yet, tracks, you have, the "better" your Atmos mix will sound (check out Part 2 of this series for the same mix from stems).

@@thelivingroomstudios Ah, didn't realise there was a part 2. Interesting, thanks I'll check it out. I love listening to even stereo mixes into the atmos renderer tho and playing with 7.1.6 compatible reverbs is awesome.

Is the binaural from the Dolby Atmos Renderer like you get on Android with Dolby Atmos enabled or is it Apple Spatial Binaural Dolby Atmos?

Hi Sam. Correct. It is the Dolby Atmos encoder which is the same for all platforms except Apple which uses, as you said in your comments, their own algorithm called "Spatial Audio."

You are right, not atmos at all, also binaural is not atmos either, atmos is only if you have all speakers. period.

KZfaq can play binaural...is this the best example, no. I'm not sure he actually used binaural or it simply has few spatial cues. A better example might be an actual binaural recording done with a binaural mic vs a stereo mic. Or possibly a binaural recording converted to stereo. Atmos is meant for headsets...speakers are secondary.

Most music consumers today don't care that the audio they're listening to has ~10dB of dynamic range and is full of distortion - why would they care about ATMOS details so small that we have to point them out? "Binaural stereo" has been around for decades - we don't need ATMOS to make it - yet it has never been anything more than a scientific novelty.

Anyone that has come to the studio and I played them several songs from both major and indie artists, binaurally, in both Atmos and Stereo, have preferred the Atmos experience. With speakers in the room it is not even a question . . . Thanks for watching!!

I do prefer the stereo mix, everything sits better together, at least for me. I also really am not into subscribing to a streaming service to listen to binaural.

You can play Atmos to a receiver-based sound system, through your computer, or whatever has Dolby Atmos on it (soundbars, laptops, etc.). It doesn't need to be only headphones...

This is a binaural headphone mix... around for many years. So, I am hearing nothing new or extraordinary from Atmos.

Thank you for watching! Would be interesting to do a comparison of other binaural tech vs Atmos--you gave me an idea for a future video there. Keep in mind that we are talking about Atmos. The binaural is just a "version" for headphones. The other binaural tech you mention won't play in an actual Atmos setup.
