The trouble with Dollartree at the moment is that before raising their prices they tried to fight inflation by reducing package sizes. Next they raised prices to do the same thing, but they still have the small package sizes. For the time being, I have decided to skip the store entirely. Finding deals is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Not worth the effort.

I've used Dollar Tree batteries for years and never had a problem with them. I've also bought the name brand ones just to see if there was a difference and to me there wasn't. They all lasted about the same amount of time 🤷‍♀️

Ever since DT started carrying Hallmark cards a few years ago, it's been hard to buy greeting cards from any other store. And the fact that you can still get them 2 for $1 is fantastic! I agree with you that it takes some discernment to know which items to buy and which to leave there knowing that you can possibly get a better deal elsewhere.

I agree with most of your assessments BUT two things-ALL the stores are downsizing boxes and drink containers-not just DT. I just saw the smaller drinks and cake mixes in a local grocery. In regard to smaller cereals, some of us live alone and while the cost per ounce at Walmart may be cheaper, it’s no savings to me if it goes stale and I have to pitch it in the trash.

@@dianasimplifies I live in senior housing. We have tiny apartments with little cabinet space and small cabinets and refrigerators. It’s not practical for most of us to use our storage space that way-and half the time when I do that, the stuff ends up shoved to the back where I can’t get to it until someone comes to help me. Just not practical for a lot of us to buy big boxes or in bulk. My poor countertops are overflowing with dry goods in mason jars already 😄

I actually like the smaller containers of frosting. I seem to always have extra frosting left over when I buy the ones from the grocery store. I may have to try it out because I hate wasting frosting; usually eaten by my children. As for the small creamer, it's probably nice to keep in a camping box because who wants to bring their big one with them when they go camping. I'm also thinking that smaller sizes are great for college students who don't have tons of space in the dorms. Canned veggies are packed with salt. We buy frozen veggies. I've never priced frozen veggies out at Dollar Tree. Might need to do so.

When I was a kid you got 6 cups of batter from a cake mix. That's why you got 2 nice layers in 2 8" pans. For years now we have been getting 4 cups of batter from a cake mix. When I got into cake decorating I learned to stretch a cake mix to make a higher cake. To the dry cake mix add 1 c flour, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 teasp salt, 1 teasp baking powder. To the wet ingredients add these extras in addition to what you normally put in the mix 1 egg, 1 teasp vanilla, 3 Tablespoons oil and 1/2 water. You will have a beautiful full sized cake that tastes amazing. Might need 5 extra minutes to bake but just test with a toothpick. Hope this helps.

For some things, like candy, frosting and brownie mix / cookie mix - I deliberately buy at Dollar Tree because I don't want to bake huge batches. I can still get like 10 cookies out of a box and that's good enough for me. It's not good for you, it's just a treat, so I don't want a big box. Sometimes, it's not all about value and or the most for the money.

I live in a 2 person household. Sometimes I buy the smaller size from DT because buying a larger size would be wasted on us. It's not a good deal if you end up throwing away half the package. It's also better for our waistlines to buy a small box of cake mix and make a smaller cake rather than eating a larger one or dumping half in the garbage. A good deal at DT in case you see it is the Pampa gnocchi. You get one pound of comparable quality and size to Walmart which is 1.97 there. The two pound bag of brown rice is a good deal as well.

My local DT's have been shrinking box sizes for almost a year. Now, so many foods aren't worth the $1.25. We really have to train our eyeballs to know what is worth it & what isn't. I had used Dollar Tree ones for years, but turns out those had been some name brand ones that had ended up at Dollar Tree. So this time around the first pack was acceptable. But the second pack...the very first time I used one from it I had cuts every half inch on my entire legs! I was shaving in the shower and knew I was getting some cuts, but couldn't tell how bad it was until after the water was off. I don't buy a LOT at any dollar tree like I used to. But for snacks that you can take on a camping trip (cheap grill stuff and snacks), it is easy to make, worth the pancake mix for a 5 quarter box, and cake pans to cook and ruin, worth the money. I have one ceramic dish, bowl, and yes, those plastic ware items are worth taking. I do take some condiments, pickles for example, mushrooms etc as I keep finding them available for camping trips. That is how I see my new dollar quarter tree anyways.

Just went to our Dollar Tree. They were sold out on the canned chicken and turkey and about 1/3 stocked with tuna. They used to have large boxes of the instant mashed potatoes that would serve about 8, now for $1.25 they have pouches that are small and say six servings but likely would serve about 3-4. No boxed milk, only some of the almond milk. We don't buy the energy drinks, avoid the artificial colors and sugars so didn't check on those. They did have school and office supplies fairly well stocked, but some of the other things in the hardware section like tarps, cording and flashlights were either sold out or very few.

I actually love the men’s razors, 2 in a pack from DT. I’ve been using them for years and stocked up before the price change, lol

Thanks for sharing these tips! If you like pre-seasoned, canned vegetables, the Margaret Holmes Tomatoes, Okra, and Corn is good. (Usually, I loathe okra.) Even at $1.25, it's cheaper than the markets where they sell for just below $2.00 or over $2.00. Aside: I prefer the MH brand greens over the Glory brand greens.

I vote for Le Sueur canned peas. Grew up eating food from home garden which had been home canned & these taste as close to that as I can find. To my family, frozen peas has plastic-like texture ! Prefer all fresh veggies when available with canned being second option. Will occasionally buy frozen broccoli or fruits when not in season. Freeze leftovers, freezer meals/sauces from double batch cooking, ripe fruit that we cannot eat timely, butter, yeast, but most of freezers is reserved for meats/cheeses/eggs.

Agree with the peas. My kids have always called them the grey-green peas but they’re the only ones I’ll buy. We love them

Sometimes, with the fact that, DT is in community that are less served than big groceries store and WM not going into those communities. People do get a bargain price than others store in their communities. I do purchase my razors, the specifically the one's you were holding are great with the shaving gel they also sell there. WM that is not nearby, is more expensive in Southern California, in the Los Angeles area.

Awesome video. Ordered myself some razors. I can say that sometimes the smaller jars, cans, boxes of food items are really a good choice if you live in a college apartment with very limited space. My daughter has found things that work really well for her.

I completely agree with all the things you said. I really don't buy too much at DT anymore. Mine doesn't have very good selections for a lot of products and I can usually find better deals right next door at winco.

I saw school supplies today, a couple months after this video was made. It may be a seasonal thing, in that it was near the end of the school year then but now they’re gearing up for back to school.

I shop at DT for the little pantry that I help support. I buy the bag cereals, everything that is shelf stable, including the boxes of milk. I also buy a lot at Aldi for the same reason. I don’t and won’t shop at Walmart….

The thing about canned food is if I need peas (for peas salad), corn, black beans or baked beans, as long as I’m there at DT I’ll grab ‘em. DT is around the block from my house but Walmart is 15 miles away, 30 round trip at over $6 a gallon, I’ll shop at DT. Plus we’re only two ppl. And the smaller sizes are for portion control. I’ve read that Costco & Sam’s Club make ppl fat bc their sizes are humongous. So sometimes less is more. But I do agree about most of the electronics & tea lights. We’ve all bought stuff that broke much sooner than expected & idk why they sell that garbage in the first place. Anyway, great reviews! TFS

In regards to the doggie Doo bags, I just use the plastic grocery bags. They are bigger, hold more on a pick up and you tie it off, put in trash.

What used to be the Betty Crocker brand of plastic storage containers and kitchen utensils is now McCormick. My local Dollar Tree stores still have school supplies, but not many--about 1/2 of an aisle. Those small sized cereals are great if you want to "sample" them or only need a cup or 2 for a recipe and don't want to buy a big box. I buy the cheap phone charger cords for traveling that way I don't feel bad if I forget and leave one (which did happen a few years ago). I have a Dollar General around the corner from my house that I shop before going to Dollar Tree. I find its often cheaper than Dollar Tree.

Great video! I agree with you on almost everything except some of the toilet paper. The Charmin Mega Roll I believe is worth it, if ur in a pinch. It’s 1 ply but it’s stronger like they say and thicker than that other 1 ply crap in the 4pk. But yes I usually get a good deal on Walmart brand 2 ply buying in bulk.

Honestly for soup I find pint sized glass jars like ball/mason jars or even the jars from like jams, pickles, etc to be better than other food storage containers I've had that seem to always leak soup! I also use those jars when I make iced tea in a big batch I have pint sized options right in my fridge ready to go
