Why was it poor, historically? Low on nature resources?
@Bluewizard7131
@Bluewizard7131 3 жыл бұрын
@@herrbonk3635 It is a very rural area, and there are not many resources. The closest cities with decent (average) jobs are an hour or more drive each way. Historically, there were lots of farmers here, but that has been taken away by large corporations. Where I live it's an hour round trip to the nearest decent grocery. People stay here because many were born here and they love the mountains and the scenery. It's more complex than that, but that is a brief overview.

Didn't know they did a film about it..but its well known this was autobiographical..she grew up really dirt poor money wise..but rich in love.. i am working class and had a wonderful childhood. Money was tight yes and as the youngest I wore the hand me downs from my sisters but god we were millionaires in love and care.. i have a friend who was the opposite..its funny untill you speak to others you think they had the wonderful childhood you did then you realise how lucky you are..I have now lost both my wonderful loving parents..my wonderful dad when i was only 19..as a daddy's girl it was devastating..at the end of my funeral I'm having dance with my father played becsuse thats what he used to do..he was American too..my mom was Welsh they met on a blind date in November 43 as dad was over here🇬🇧 doing training.. they got married in Feb 44 With a 3 day honeymoon..then dad went back to barracks and landed on Omaha beach on the DDay landings ..my strong matriarch mom lost her battle with alzheimer's in 2003..i had looked after her for 7 yrs.. my friends mom is still alive but quite poorly..the only thing she thinks about is what she's going to do with all the money she's going to have.. me on the other hand would give everything i had just for one more good day with my parents..i know how lucky I was..but it maked the loss harder 🐾🇬🇧💞🙏

Although I didn't grow up poor but lower middle class, my grandmother did grow up poor in Poland. She loved sewing her grandchildren clothes although my parents could afford store bought clothing and did. However, my most beloved treasures from grandma are my faith in God and the beautiful sweaters that she made for me😊. I still have those sweaters and wear them during the fall and summer. Her knitting skills were superb and receive so many compliments to this day. The patterns are sophisticated and difficult but they mean more now that Babcia is gone😃.

I love these songs where we know what's coming up in the lyrics, 'cause we've heard the song before, but you don't, 'cause the goodness of your heart comes through every time you hear a line that grabs your attention. From this one, when you heard that the kids laughed at her, to the line in Janice Ian's "At Seventeen," when the girl was the last one chosen for sides on a basketball team, and you literally winced, 'cause you KNOW how that must feel. You truly listen to these songs; the words. And you feel them deeply. That's the reason we love your channel, Jay. You have such a good heart, and even though you don't necessarily mean for it to, it shines out so obviously through these reactions. You're a good young man.

This song has reduced me to tears for decades. So many kids are given "things" but lack the love of the families that continually struggle financially. Those who are supported emotionally are so much richer than those who only recieve gifts of name brand clothing or the latest toys or video consoles. Also, another great Dolly song for the Christmas season coming up is Hard Candy Christmas.

And the fact that she's still going strong today is a real blessing for the rest of us. Dolly's songs always make me emotional because she and Loretta Lynn were my late wife's two favorite singers. Dolly’s original coat is long gone. Neither she nor her mother knew for certain what happened to it. They assumed it was passed down till it wore out or taken apart & repurposed. After the success of the song, Dolly's mother made a "near duplicate" (to the best of her memory), which is on display at Dollywood (along with a fancier version from the movie). There is a stylized pic of the original coat on the Coat of Many Colors album cover, presumably done from the school pic Dolly had take in it, but she said the actual pic only shows the upper area.

@@slowfootlabeef704 Even many who’ve been to Dollywood think it’s the original, but with 7 younger siblings, it was probably gone before Dolly graduated high school. Still, I imagine the replica is special to Dolly, because her mom put her labor & love into it too (maybe as special as the original, since her mom did all that work purely from love, not need).

Life in the smoky mountains of eastern tennessee and western north carolina was hard, it got very cold in the winter. Sitting here in Dolly's home town. Her family was so poor, huge family in a one room shack. They didnt always have shoes, had to fetch the water from the well, use an outhouse. Dollys dad never learned to read, because he had to work the farm and couldnt go to school. Dollys family grew up with love and music and thats priceless. She gives so much back to us here in Tn, especially in the smokies. She gives books every month to every child born in Sevier Co. She is a treasure.

When my sister and I were young we grew up in upper class , beautiful new home, and never lacked for anything but I remember mom making us dresses, etc and they meant the world to us! When your mom takes that time to do those kinds of things they sure are the most special!! ❤

Dolly was one of 11 children and like your aunt she never forgot her roots. She has donated sooooo much to charity. She has The Imagination Library" which any child no matter what income can sign up for and receive free books every month. Talented, compassionate, and just a sweetheart

New subscriber. I was a teenager in the 80’s. I love your channel, I love your reactions. I suggest a song, I song this at my Moms funeral. “Just when I needed you most”. By Randy Van Warmer. Very touching song great vocals. Oldie but a goodie. Best wishes for you success.

She’s been my consistency unproblematic queen for all 43 years of my life. Seeing her on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson when I was maybe 5 or 6 was one of my first vivid memories. I was instantly in love.

Brings tears doesn’t it? One of America’s best storytellers. I’m gonna share on Twitter, maybe she’ll see It. She deserves to hear this.

This song always makes me cry, love Dolly Parton so much. I have seven brothers and sisters so know what it's like to do without but I always felt lucky to have older sisters who gave me their clothes. If you like this one J, you will like a song she did called "Chicken Every Sunday". Big shout out to my ex husband for introducing me to this beautiful song.

This is such a beautiful song, no matter how many times I hear it, it makes me cry Everytime. Her voice with the words of the song and knowing that every word of it is true not only for her but for many people including myself. Such a beautiful song and a beautiful story.

This and Little Sparrow are two of my most favorite Dolly songs. I grew up poor and dealt with buof it. because of it. I held on to this song for years as proof that I could change that. I did. Love this so much.

My mother and father used to joke about how poor they were as kids. Once my father said we all had holes in our shoes! My mothers reply was " You had shoes?" lol They said childhood was hell but it gave them appreciation for anything they had.
