The way she sings and talks this true story in this song gets me every time. It really packs an emotional punch. I love Miss Dolly! She’s such an amazing talent! I’ve been to Dollywood twice, in the Fall season, and it’s such an amazing place. Smack dab in the Smoky Mountains, it’s a beautiful environment! It’s definitely worth a visit! The Dolly museum is worth the price of admission alone. Thanks, Empress!! ✌🏻🙂✌🏻

My Mother made my clothes when I was a child, while everyone was wearing designer labels. But I was proud as I could be and still am today! This made me humble and gave me a non judgmental view on people and life in general. Thank you Mom and Dolly!

This was the title song Dolly's 8th solo album in 1971. She wrote the song for her mom, Avie Lee, who sewed a sort of patchwork coat from different fabrics. Their family was poor, and this is a beautiful song with a message that they are "rich" in other various ways, with the coat as a metaphor. I remember this song fondly, although I heard it when I was a wee little girl. This song is so gorgeous and iconic. This song was in the country charts throughout the 70s.

Iconic Dolly song ! I used this song as apart of a anti-bullying campaign.💙 Dolly Parton and Stevie Nicks are the only performers I seen live so far who can have an audience captivated by their storytelling in between their songs👏🏽

Been to Dollywood once. You will love it. The museum is amazing. I spent hrs. In it. I didn't want to leave that building. There's a special room dedicated to Porter Wagoner. So much stuff to see, watch & listen to. The coat is not the original. Dolly doesn't know what happen to it. She thinks it got passed down to one of the other kids. Her Mom made a new one for the Museum from what she could remember of it. I was told, at the time, that Dolly has 2 big warehouses(could be more now) fill of stuff cause she saves everything. Always switching things in/out of Museum. You can look at all the awards she's won & see papers she wrote the words of her songs on. It's so cool. You can tell l didn't like the Museum. LOL.

I've heard this song a million times and COMC still makes me tear up. I have seen Dolly in concert many times, and this is ALWAYS a crowd favorite. And yes, Dollywood is def life goals!
