As someone who worked on Asphodel's illwiki article, I think it basically works like this: there's a set number of "instances" per province which can spawn a manikin, and the chance that it'll spawn is based on candles and growth scales. I couldn't tell you the formula but I think 10 candles by itself makes it close to 100% chance to spawn, which is why growth scales don't seem to have much of an effect in your testing. In Dom 6 its 6 instances plus 2 more if there's a temple, so temples have a big effect on spawn rates which wasn't the case in Dom 5. That's why you don't see more than 160 elites plus chaff in twenty turns, you're spawning a maximum of 8 a turn. The sacreds are generated on top of this number, as are the spawns from corpses.

So you could have a situation where Dom3/G5 gives you close to max manikins? 'Cause that does open up a Dom1 build with like fourteen provinces with temples spawning sacreds, and all other provinces providing elites and chaff.

I think you can rationalize the manikins being inanimate because the main body is the skeleton, with the vines being more the magic that holds them together than the unit itself. So like, if the skeleton is destroyed the unit dies, and since the skeleton isn't alive or even undead in the traditional way it isn't affected by regeneration. That's not too say they necessarily need to be inanimate tho, just that it's not completely insane that they are from a lore perspective.

They also have recuperation which now does NOT work on undead when gained from a bless. Though it does work for Asphodel undead which has recuperation by default (I guess in-built recuperation works differently than the bless or they are made an exception?)

Three things I think should be mentioned: Regarding the Mages: The [Dryad] Hag is a great assassin if you give them the tag: they can cast venomous death without a gem, and summon asps. You can do that with the base harpies if you give them a Nature gem as well. Also the centaur mages are very good commanders, and the death 1 centaurs can lead your undead. Unfortunately that is only half of the ones you get. They are also good users of the National item: the carrion bow. Also you don't have easy access to E2 for Earth boots, so taking that on a pretender is a good plan for late game magic access. Regarding the Troops: The satyr sneak is the cheapest option but causes unrest. However for 1resource more you get a satyr with a javilin who doesnt cause unrest, and is just a better chaff troop. Regarding Harpies: Black harpies are insanely good scouts, 34 map move and base 60 stealth. And they have flying movement. AND they only cost 35 gold. Edit: corrected to dryad hag

Single player is so fun already though. Where else are you gonna dump hundreds of gems into empowering a crappy freespawn commander just because you like him and want to make him an immortal lich? Or build experimental SC and thugs loaded up with rare expensive gear that die in their first fight anyway and waste all your time and resources? I'm also a fan of using gift of reason on every single cool thing you can possibly use it on. Catoblepas commander ftw.

Don't know if I missed it in the video but you can also use Ring of the False Prophet to bring your H3s to H4 in order to cast Carrion Growth. Probably need to design a pretender around that though.

I don't know enough about the mechanics of the game to decide if inanimate is apropriate from a gameplay point of view. But I feel like inanimate fits thematically well to the undead animated by vines we see in fantasy and pulp stories. Also those things are literally called manikins. Like unliving puppets on strings.

The formula is basically 6(+2 with temple) * 10% * growth + candles. The basic result is that with growth4 you get 50% of max spawn rate with 1 candle and 100% spawn rate with 6 candles. Another way to put this is that having over 6 candles doesn’t increase spawn rates

interesting. almost makes me want to cut a growth and take a little extra dom. It is a tradeoff between more early game sacreds and N gem potential vs domkill and terraforming. I have really been liking vitriol weapons on the spring immobile. The national summons got a huge boost, particularly the carrion lady. Instead of an N1, she can now have all the paths of a dryad hag. Major major upgrade. Not to mention they all summon slightly more freespawn per turn. And getting that extra random on the carrion lords means 3/4 of them can thug effectively. (Instead of the N3 D2 H3 we got before.) With the N income from temples and rushing for mother oak, I am way more likely to summon a carrion lord than make one the back way with TBORN. Anyone figured out a good way to kill your guys in a battle for life after death without killing the undead form too?

@@danshabash With Growth 3 your cap should always be at Growth 5 (because of your cap site) which spreads Growth if I am not mistaken. Which allows you to terraform out from your cap. With Growth 4 and high dom I have only seen 1 or two provinces change in a game. It is nice but not really something to rely on. Far more important is expanding quickly to the nearest forests and putting forts/temples in them. Pretty map dependent honestly

Having become a single player fiend myself, you certainly already know but the kind of experience you get is all about the map settings seems like. Even seemingly innocuous stuff like having level 3 thrones on or no map wrap around vastly change how strong the AIs usually end up and how grindy the end game can be. And I can see already this nation must be MA pan lol, just played a game as them in EA myself.

Pan has an MA Version, This is an offshoot nation, similar to how Ermor also splits in MA. With original Ermor being a popkill undead nation in MA, and their successor state being Sceleria who are all the remaining alive humans. MA has quite a few nations like this that were remnants, offshoots, former colonies etc.

All magic path boosters are good. Items which give temporary gems are useful and reliable though often don't pay off. All armor that's not beserker pelt is good to put on squishy human mages - get what you can spare the gems for. Boots of youth & messenger are 90% of your feet slots. Misc pokemon items that give retinue are mainly good for assasins, stuff that gives reinvig or far-casting are good for mages, everything else just depends on if you want to thug/what you want from your thug. The only things that are tricky are weapons and shields - coral swords, faithful, demon banes are good for mages bc they give hitpoints+lucky, most shields are overpriced but can provide good protection against arrows - luck.arrow fend, awe shield are all generally good - thugs often use charcoal (gives fire shield) or vine shields. Lastly, astral/earth crosspath gives you star metal - shields which cast power of the sphered at the beginning of combat, and matrixes which put mages in communions automatically (blood/astral does same for sabbaths) These cover about 90% of the items you routinely forge

Oh yeah, penetration items - astral has a few, nature/astral has one, and fire/water has the best one - rune smasher. Good on all socery mages Earth/Astral, nature/astral, fire/earth, water/fire, glamour/earth, water/nature, blood/earth, blood/air, and fire/death are the most important crosspaths for unlocking important boosters/useful items. Air/earth is nice but a luxury

... i want that thumbnail for a wallpaper rings of regen dont work on them, latest patch fixed an error where regen trait would still show up on things it didnt actually work on, fixed. i noticed that in a swamp province, with 1 dominon, i would only get manikins, but as soon as i put a temple there, still at 1 dominion, i started getting satyr/mandragora, so i think temples MIGHT have an impact in and of themselves also, why go to the extremes in dominon? why only think about going 10 or 1? i found 3-5 dominion a pretty good balance

The thing about the fort protection is it depends on administration of the fort so if you take forts with high admin they protect more pops. In addition you can cast mage tower as they have higher admin and fort Hp without using nature gem.

The best freespawn is the carrion titan. Giant size carrion with fear. I got them from a prov where Utgard troops had died.

I think if you go high dominion, an extremely important factor is that your expansion is that of early pan on steroids. My first game in dom6, I had 46 provinces when my neighbours had 24-26. And I was the noob. You have white centaurs essentially (just better as of the patch but our game was before that), and with dom 10 you spawn hordes of reskinned longdeads with some elites on top. These can just easily expand without scales troops or sacreds (I didn't particularly care if I lost a 100 here and there, later in the 2v1 against me, I barely cared if I lost 500 of them).

Ive barely played any MP yet- i was sorta burning out on dom5 when dom6 got released... so i only been playing single player so far in dom6... But once i get a few MP games under my belt a video on the shift in the meta will be good.

Think the old formula was Dom + growth with a max of 9 or 10. Loggy did a good breakdown on the old formula back in the day.

39:00 So priest reanimation closely resembles dominion reanimation in a non-forest growth 3 province, at least in the type of troop you get. Unless, of course, the terrain matters for them as well. I always seemed to have better luck doing it in forests in Dom5 but maybe that's just confirmation bias. Gotta admit I don't have the patience to run these kinds of tests.

22:50 The main reason I'm immediately wanting the Panic over is that critical Leadership 100 -not that I don't want the magic too but formations seems essential for anything not-undisciplined. I could certainly be over-valuing formations but that's how it looks to me.

Disease seems a little bugged. It's taking a long time even for normal disease on my mages where it spends multiple turns on 1 and 2 hp. 10 gems seems like a lot for a cursed item as well that only pays off after like 20 turns

The AI goes absolutely crazy with this nation. Anytime I play MA I always pick these as an enemy to be the endboss of the game. They will steamroll other AIs and if you let them do their thing they will get massive armies. I've seen a stack of 22.000 Troups in one province once. On NORMAL difficulty. Granted, it was very late game, but still. Luckily my Freaklord could handle them with battlefield wipes (had 16k kills in one battle), but even the "smaller" stacks of 3-4 K troops very scary and they were all over the place.

I have mentioned this before, but it is such a flavor fail that carrion centaur commanders are not commanderized Sagittarian carcasses with an H1 path. Like logically why would 100% of all carrion centaurs that exist be priests and commanders? But 0% of the ostensibly more holy and sacred Sagittarian carcasses are? Frustrates me to no end. Not to mention that, at least in dom5, the twiceborn shape for the hierophants was carrion lady instead of carrion centaur. One of the reasons I even liked playing asphodel in dom5 was massing the cool undead centaurs with bows. Which is made as difficult as possible, because you can't even summon a commander version. These are the flavor fails that eat at my soul. And of course you have mentioned that the cool and flavorful new pretenders are anti-synergetic with their national scale bonuses. So you are actively discouraged from taking them. I feel at least, any time your national scales bonus invalidates a pretender's, you should get a 20 point discount per scale. That seems entirely reasonable. Under compensating even.

Yeah i reported the shape of hierophants -> carrion ladies - illwinter said they would get this in an upcoming patch. Not sure what you mean about all carrion centaurs being priests.

@@LucidTacticsI was contrasting that there are no sagittarian carcass commanders. And there are no 'normal' carrion centaur troops. It makes the carrion centaur seem out of place. IDK if you noticed but you sometimes get carrion centaur freespawn commanders now. So they aren't JUST a summon anymore. Anyway I will quit nitpicking a nation that I actually play more than any other lol.

I have gotten zero freespawn outside of forests other than manikins and mandragora's (or reanimated by a priest.) By chance, are undead priests supposed to be unable to preach?
