I've had great fun and success with them, they're so beautiful, but the snails/ slugs ate two of my large ones this spring. How is that even possible?

That is an excellent question, as the allicin compound within the bulb should have deterred them. The question is did they survive after eating the bulbs?

@daviddomoney the bulbs are intact, it was the stems they decimated. I'd used nematodes for the slugs quite successfully, so the snails took over! They're also in a raised bed.
