Күн бұрынThe Super Bowl winning LA Rams had a parade today, after a two-year hiatus Coachella is back and the masks are coming off, Trump’s longtime accounting firm has dumped him and he fired back a response, the big new bombshell that the wingnuts are pushing now is that Hillary was spying on the White House, little Don Jr gave a sneak peek at Daddy’s new social media project, Meta (the company formerly known as Facebook) is changing things up and calling employees “metamates,” the KZfaq video “Baby Shark” is being made into a movie, and after a teenager named Zach Montana uncovered a song his dad wrote and sang 43 years ago, and never released, he posted a video of him listening to it on TikTok and it went viral - so we invited him and his dad Curly Smith to tell their story and perform the song “Surrender to Me” with their band Fire City Funk later in the show.

His dad was the drummer for the band Boston, and has worked in the studio with Bette Midler, and some other famous musicians. This kid already knew his dad is a very talented musician, but it is cool that he is able to connect with, and appreciate the music he created. What is even more cool, when the dad found out how people were receiving his song, and the video went viral, he was more excited about what this kind of exposure could do to introduce people to his sons music.

Mass shootings and killings all around. 45 222 people died from gun-related injuries in 2020 with the gunshot injury being the principal reason for death. Sure, those are not all murders (over half is suicide), but 13 620 are murders. From that murders: 409 were by an assault weapon! Mass shootings: according to the definition you use 38 to 513 people (shooters excluded) got killed in mass shootings. But sure, let's look at the 11 people that got killed during protests (left ánd right) and 9 of those people were demonstrators in BLM. What a coincidence you seemed to look over this...

True for me at least. I never realized so many people were so stupid until COVID. A sad side effect. And what a thing to be stupid about - a contagious disease, spread worldwide and still mutating in unknown directions, and one that attacks so many vital organs long-term even if you don’t get sick enough to be hospitalized. I don’t know about you all, but I would like my lungs, heart, kidneys, liver, and brain to be in as tiptop shape as possible. Especially my brain. I’m a scientist. I really really need my brain.

I'd like to think it was genuine but they (the son) didn't think anyone would care. When it became a hit they decided to just ride the wave. Not a bad thing IMO.

The dad was the drummer for the band Boston, and did studio work for Bette Midler and other famous musicians, so he has experienced a bit more fame than a viral TikTok, but it is awesome when children grow up and get to appreciate that their parents are actually people, and we may have been pretty cool at some point

Curly Smith was the drummer in early '70s band Jo Jo Gunne (four albums on Asylum and one hit single, "Run Run Run"), and has played with a bunch of big names since then. Unless, of course, this is a different Curly Smith - he looks like the same guy, though.

I’d look on KZfaq. Loads of playlists with older music and videos on them. Good stuff, too, time is a great filter. I just discovered the German pop group Dschingkhis Khan (Genghis Khan in English). So of course once I watched the original Eurovision show, KZfaq keeps suggesting more and more of the original group, the newer incarnations, and other language/national versions. Just saw the Mongolian version (with real Mongolians) and awfully realistic blood was even shed in the videos in the background of the enthusiastic dancing Mongolians. It’s all really fun - music, costumes, singers, dancers. Don’t know how I missed them 40 years ago, but I don’t think I even had cable back in 1979 when they first started. I didn’t even have a color tv. (Grew up with fuzzy b&w, it was a big deal when my mother’s cousin got a big color tv and we would go over to his house to see shows in color.) Anyway - I only read technical German, so I have to use a dictionary a lot.... Good practice for me, I guess. I do worry a bit that in later centuries, some of the well known invaders of our time will also get a fun upbeat musical treatment....
