Izzy Nobre yeah plus he showed us his own videography from a drone that was amazing. Look, I get it, it’s harder and harder to fly your drone in many places, however, if you’re smart and able to learn local laws - you can get that amazing shot from the right places.

In fairness, I think he's making some very valid points and I also predict that the situation is going to get a lot worse in the future. Gatwick Airport was closed recently because drones were spotted and hundreds of flights were cancelled. As I write, a drone was just spotted near Heathrow Airport and this has sent the authorities into panic mode with both the police and military being alerted. In Thailand, where I live, drones can be brought into into the country but any drone with a camera or weighing over 2kg must be officially registered and you are supposed to get the permission of the landowner over whose land you wish to fly (among other rules and regulations). As more rules and regulations are implemented it will become increasingly difficult to legally fly drones anywhere. I got marries in Bridgeport CT and the Photographer/ videographer used a drone to beget shots of the hotel and building we were staying at.... so he isn't entirely correct. The FAA have guidelines about how close you can be to groups of people etc but as long as you follow them you can fly. I live in Ireland myself and close to an airport so I need to be careful in locations but can still fly. Just needed to register with the IAA.

@evangore no not spent 1000's on rare wedding drone footage. I am just stating that it is permitted... the rules are you can't fly near 12 people or more and need to registered to fly as well. There are restrictions in certain parks however if you are away from an airport it is fine to fly.

There are tones of videos of people proving the police wrong when told they can't fly. I am registered to fly and once I obey a hand full of rules I can fly how I like.

Some national parks have unwritten rules about not allowing the flying of drones however. That is not legal and can be challenged. Furthermore perhaps you are referring to your local area and have not done your research properly. I personally live in Ireland which was the first country that had drone registration however that said l am legally registered to fly worldwide (and no I'm not commercial) . In fact up to this week the FAA could not stop hobbyists from flying a drone over downtown Huston one of the largest cities in America. They have now been given a new bill with will allow for stricter regulations on the 400 meter airspace but how that will look will take time. Ultimately you argument is flawed based on your lack of actual and factual information...

I'm not sure that he's condescending, but he IS trying to share a perspective on the issue of the video. He speaks from his own experience and has done a great deal of research. I'm not sure that it's the worst thing in the world to be aware of the mistakes that others have made, or the facts that you may be unaware of, especially when it comes to a potential investment of $$$ and time, which could be a complete waste for some people, or a potential risk to public safety. I don't think he's TELLING any of us what we can or can't do, he's just trying to raise awareness of some things which the general public may not be aware of. He also advises people of the pros and cons of owning expensive camera bodies and lenses as well. I don't think he's trying to steer anyone to buy from certain camera manufacturers, or to negatively influence peoples' buying decisions. He's simply an educator with access to information and he chooses to share it with all of us. What YOU do with it, as an individual, is completely up to YOU! I think, weather anyone agrees, that it's a fact that not everyone SHOULD own a drone. Certainly there are people in better positions to make great use of drones, as well as people who will find the restrictions of drone use incredibly difficult to manage. If I could have a friend tell me, before I married someone, that it would end negatively, with a great deal of money lost and time invested, and I would come out on the other end devastated or unhappy, I think I'd appreciate that information beforehand. I respect Tony for what he does and for putting himself out there for scrutiny by the general public. I'm sure he's criticized a great deal by people who don't know him at all, but just don't like the message that he's delivering. You mean "crowded" not "crouded." You miss the point of the video, which is understandable, people who can spell may understand it more easily. Pointing out restrictions is good information. The fines are steep in national parks and if you are off to Morocco to get drone footage, or many other countries for that matter, you may spend a few holiday nights in the crowbar hotel. The restrictions he pointed out are fact, not opinion. His conclusion is opinion, based on fact.

Austin you can fly more areas then you think. There are simply laws that you learn about in part 107 that allows you to fly near airports by reporting to the airport where you are. I just passed my 107.

Correct. It tells you where you are in relation to airports. But you do need permission to fly in an area that is covered by one. You just call the ATC tower tell them where you are, how long your flying and how high.

Keith Dornin I have a local airport that accepts digital notice which is pretty nice. I just fill out a quick form online and it satisfies the FAA requirement for notification for two airports I’m in the vicinity of. I heard about a new system called “LAANC” or something like that. It’s said to integrate with AirMap and should make the process much easier.

You can fly over water in germany. Only if its a waterway its forbidden. But yeah, since most rivers, lakes, forests and mountains are in nature reserves you are not allowed to fly there. Also impossible to "fly in your neighborhood" as its forbidden to fly over peoples living ground. So scratch any city or village. Its close to impossible to legaly fly in germany. Oh wait, there are these dedicated places for model planes. nice...

Sebastian Schwarz dude there is a whole area of Chicago from downtown Chicago lakefront to almost Evanston where you can fly. Check your sectional airspace map. You don't need to lift off in a park, a sidewalk with no pedestrians will do. The parks don't govern airspace. Once you get the rules down packed you can learn to work within them. kendallarroz Ken is awesome and funny. The only reason I go by the lake, is that I’m usually doing a timelapse for a couple hours of the sunrise. While I have that camera going, I’ll fly the drone. Anything that gets further south of Irving Park, the Police heliport comes into play. They told me once that I couldn’t so I didn’t fight it. Also, have seen them stop people flying in the park across the bridge at North Ave. Personally, I’ve been stopped once and it wasn’t pleasant. Difficult to tell a cop he’s wrong and doesn’t understand the laws. For now I’d prefer to stay under the radar and not be bothered.

Sebastian Schwarz I get ya. It's always best to avoid situations like that since not every officer is understanding. I actually try to fly close to sunrise or sunset since there is less activity on the lakefronts. Suprised they still bother you. But heliports are tricky because some are unmanned or you just can't call. The police I wouldn't mess with though. My rule of thumb is depending where the heliport is I'll stay under it's max height. And that is also my distance from it. But that's only if there is no number or control tower like person I can call. Hope you don't get discouraged. Keep looking around town tho. You'll be surprised where you can fly. But if you learn to read a a sectional map you really will be opened up to where you can fly. Sometimes there's pockets of good ol legal air. 👃💨👃💨

I am in Chicago , I fly my drone every where , but I also check the app that tells me where is restricted, some areas have don’t fly and some ask you to call the air traffic control tower, you probably hit a 5 miles restriction and that’s why you got the police. But if you get informe you will be ok. Also fly where people don’t see you take off , because you get the haters. Once in the air I take my shots land it and go,

Sebastian Schwarz From McCormick Place South to Indiana the Lake Front is mine. I go early before 2pm before lots of people are out. Over the Shoreline 150 - 200 feet up and no one complains. The kids at the Beaches Love it! And Lots of Common Sense, you shouldn't have any problems.

However one expresses it, Soumyajit Ray is right: this channel is excellent. In my opinion it is the best comprehensive photography channel which I have found. There is a great deal of work, wit, intelligence and intellect put into its content - and much is fun learning. Tony / Chelsea / Justin never speak-down to their audience; they often given examples of their own errors; offer both sides of everything they discuss and I love their channel. I would argue that other channels can be used in conjunction - eg: landscapes Thomas Heaton and Nick Page; new photographers Mike Browne (and I am sure there are many others). But no one offers the comprehensive photography coverage this channel does (no, I am not family nor paid - damn!). It is very popular on the Net to knock things and, yes, of course the Northrups promo their courses and books - they need to earn a living to produce the YT vids. But no one that I have seen offers so much, so well, in depth and breadth as does the Northrup channel. Don't believe me? Look at their subscriptions and views stats soaring: we are not all wrong. Oh yes and trust? The integrity is built on honesty, reliability, that admitting errors (and correcting them) and offering various perspectives to most issues. Indeed, if you pixel-peep this channel (not the fab dog) I suspect you'll find, intelligence, intellect and integrity in every cell. Thank you T/C/J. teleking58 I’ve seen the drones on wish. If any of the reviews are an indicator, they are cheap junk made from flimsy material and low resolution cameras. Also considering most of the stuff I’ve bought doesn’t come in its original packaging, there’s a good chance it could get broken in transport. It’s best to read the product reviews, NOT the store reviews. If no product reviews are available, you can bet it’s junk. With that being said, I did get a pretty good 10 stop ND filter through them.

With electronics, you almost always get what you paid for. There's no way a 500 dollar laptop will be as good as a 2500 dollar laptop, and the same goes for 50 dollar vs 500 dollar drones. Now, maybe you need a cheap practice drone. That's totally possible and a legit decision. But don't expect the amazing drone footage you see on KZfaq. Those people invested way more.

MrNicoJac great point regarding use for practice. I often buy items from Wish, not because I think they will be good quality, but because I think they might work well enough for me to determine whether it is worth the investment of a good quality version.

Kind of what I was thinking. I think a small investment cheap drone would give me something to play with and help me decide whether or not it was worth investing in a good one. I'd hate to drop a thousand bucks and then decide it wasn't really for me.

You need to go after a higher end market as a professional. Switch from residential to large commercial works and buildings. Add some extra sensors for niche target markets. Fly with two people: One controlling the camera, one flying. Now you're talking about services very few people can offer. Join the film industry. Invest in photogrammetry software... There is just one thing you can't do as an individual and that is the race to the bottom. You will NEVER win that one. You can't compete financially with a college student who does this as a hobby and would like an extra battery for his $400 drone.

Arthur Detwiler honestly it isn’t worth it. You get a lot of vibration through the frame and you’ll spend more time fixing it than flying in the beginning. I would check out a knock off alien carbon frame on eBay. 4 mm arms that just won’t break and the whole thing costs less than a roll of expensive filament.

Good luck with that. Unless you have a really good 3D printer, it’s going to be too fragile to do much and will crumble

Noel E yeah, I have a hatch box alpha Delta I can print a 12x12x12 I've got it upgraded to carbon fiber arms and E3d hot end,but the filiment is the key here I'm using pla for everything because of my son's suggestion ,that's what he used on his,so if I can get some carbon to print,I'll try that,have a good day

I used PLA from a high quality source and it was much too brittle to fly. I ended up using PETG. It's a little more forgiving to crashes but it's heavier. It's a hassle getting it all together, but I like the troubleshooting and assembly from 3D printing a drone. My drone worked out fine.

Don't have a drone, but if I were flush enough to afford a crash, I'd have one for aerial footage in far west Texas, where in my home county alone, 2265 sq. mi. of mountains and desert await armchair exploration. (That's 284 sq. mi. larger than Delaware.) As of 2015, there were 2156 people - less than one person per square mile in the county. One small state park to skirt, an observatory to circumvent out of respect for the astronomers, and ~1,000,000 animals, peaks, canyons, hoodoos, and grassland. Antelope herds, mountain lions, coyotes, bobcats - and nothing or no one to yell, "Drone!" The nearly-as-empty neighboring counties are even more vast. Sure would help us locate the unprepared hikers who go missing occasionally on Nature Conservancy acreage. To track and better control the feral hogs that have invaded and are ripping up creek beds and endangered plant species by the roots. Not to mention pressing out native animals populations. And to see exactly what goes on along a dry creek where evidence of foot traffic frequently appears on my property. Is it drug smuggling? Human trafficking? Illegal emigration? None of my business? Yeah, a drone would be useful on so many levels...

You do realize many countries don't allow you to bring in a camera or in some cases a cellphone with out proper documentation or greasing the palms of customs. So what's your point?
