To the person who doesnt want it cuz it requires maintenance is fiddly and needs oiling...well honey all machines require that. If you dont oil or clean out the case after each project your machine will shut down. Good maintenace is required. Loved the video.

Another thing I have noticed with my Bernina 880 (even more expensive but only model still made in Switzerland) after joining an internet group in which people complained about the error messages was that it was often a tiny piece of thread caught in the bobbin area. So I avoid using the automatic cutter on the machine and have never had an error message in 9 years of use. And I have loved all 6 of my Berninas - gave three away to relatives.

I think if you check with a dealer you can find a pre-owned machine that has all the bells and whistles you want for your price range (though new ones are more like 5k not 10k)That’s what I did. I got the 770QE for about 3500. And they offered zero percent financing for three years. And I love my machine. It’s given me no trouble and works beautifully. I can’t really understand spending money on a machine that only does one thing. My Bernina does piecing, quilting, and embroiders.

I purchased the 475 Kaffe Edition. I’m not too impressed considering how much it costs. I think you can definitely get a better machine for 3k. You’re just paying for the pretty plastic shell. I own a Juki 2020 TL straight stitch, a Juki J-150 industrial straight stitch, a Bernina 770QE and 475 Kaffe and a Pfaff Passport. My favorites are the Juki’s, yes they only straight stitch but they do it very well. I quilt so I don’t need much more than straight stitch. I use the Bernina 770 for straight line quilting although I can do it on the Jukis if I want because I can control the foot pressure on both jukis. I just use the Bernina to get it out of the closet and run it a bit.

@@ThimbleBook You are getting a quality built machine that offers precision sewing, reliability, durability and features that are unmatched in other brands. Your complaints or "Bad Stuff" you speak about are a GOOD thing because the machine is telling you when you, the sewer, have a problem that needs your attention. As I'm sure you will agree, I would rather be alerted of a problem so I could take care of in odes to avoid any further problems that I might encounter. Sensors are on the Bernina for a reason and for those that are bothered by them just don't understand their machines or don't have an appreciation for the quality they originally looked for in a machine they purchased. However, I've come across some that did not take advantage of the classes that are given to them with the purchase of their machine. Education is key for any type of machine purchased. The majority of Bernina owners will tell you, they have purchase a "Forever" machine and the initial cost is well worth it. I personally have owned my 1230 for about 25+ years and it runs just like the day I purchase it. Of course, I've taken care of it with regular maintenance as you would with any quality product you have purchased. As for the cost of the maintenance, of course you will pay a bit more for it based on the knowledge and certifications the technicians need to have and keep up with. Just as if you bought a higher end car you would expect to pay more for the maintenance on it based on the qualified mechanics taking care of it. The special edition Kaffe machines are a bit more expensive because they do have the beautifully designed face on the front of the machine but also comes with your machine trolleys, special decorative stitches from Kaffe Fasset (only found on theses machines), a bundle of his fabrics. If you have purchased the embroidery model, it comes with a complete embroidery bundle that includes, BERNINA Embroidery Software 9, the Big Book of Embroidery, OESD Stabilizers, 12 Spools of Isacord thread, 5 packs of embroidery needles, OESD TearAway Tape and an Embroidery Online Gift Card. This is an added value of over $3,600.00 (well worth the extra $1,000.00 for the Embroidery model). I hope this helps, in some way, to explain the differences with purchasing a quality made machine. Happy sewing 🧵🪡

@@roxysquiltsew8917 This video was not made to keep people from buying a Bernina, as I own one myself. Rather, I made the video to let people know what they are getting into before making a purchase. Some people love the idea of a machine sending error codes so they know what to have fixed. Others, however, prefer to use a vintage machine where they can self diagnose problems and fix those problems at home without needing to go to a service center. Thanks for making the comment and I agree that Bernina's are really nice quality made machines.

Did you really say almost $3000 for a sewing machine? Does it turn the thread to gold? Make tea? I think that's crazy.... I make every single thing I sew with a Janome DC3050 which cost me £0 as my sister gave it to me, as she decided sewing isn't for her. She bought it from John Lewis for £350. I call my machine Janie. Janie has seen silk, pure wool, viscose and (because it is my fave fibre) cotton. I've made all kinds of garments and she has sewn them up beautifully. I think the sewist's skills can make the most amazing garments on either a cheaper or value cost machines or a more costly machine. To pay up to £10000 - only in my opinion - is insanity. It's a sewing machine. It sews pieces of cloth together. That's all it does. Fancy or plain, a stitch is a stitch is a stitch. I like your video though. You presented it so well, giving good info and facts. It's just the machine doesn't impress me much.... (thank you Shania 🤣)

You're reaction makes total sense. For garment makers, your need for a few basic stitches may never let you justify the multiple functions, extra stitches, and high price of the machines. For folks who enjoy a wider variety of sewing and embroidery, the extra stitches and convenient functions are worth the cost. I'm a Viking/Pfaff person myself. After experiencing their high-end features, some of which are exclusive, a basic machine would be painful to work on. You can think of it like cars. Some are happy with a simpler car that gets them from A to B. Others enjoy a car that gives driving an ultimate experience in and of itself. Ford Fiesta vs Audi S4. Same function, different experience.

Thank you for your response. I just wanted to tell you that I did get the 475 Kaffe edition. I was really on the fence with the price....even with the sale price of 2599.00. I considered the Bernette 77 for 1499.00 and the Bernette 79. Even with the quilting and a special edition the Bernette 79 was less than the Bernina at 2199.00. But the major factor was the fact that I had heard or read several reviews that people were complaining that the needle threader was eaisly broken and a 200 repair. And the size of the 77 and 79. They were so big! And I would have to purchase the travel case which is another 350.00. So the 79 would have been around the same price as the 475. But I was able to get an extra 10% off because only the display was available. It has 9000 stitches so I didn't think that was so bad. And it came with the bag. So thank you for your help. Now I just have to figure out where I can take sewing classes that will also allow my daughter to attend.
