New EV’s seen on the road are those bought by people with access to a Windfall - be that inheritance or pension, Fleet companies, Employer buy schemes, Private businesses taking advantage of massive tax rebate schemes and of course the wealthy. For us normal people let someone else take the hit - if an EV is not out yet that meets your needs fully - at not lease or hire. If there is something you really fancy and anticipate keeping it a good many years then jump In knowing you’ll save on ULEZ, Congestion charge, servicing over an ICE and if you can charge at home fuelling costs. A future proofed 2-3 years old second hand EV ie one that is on 800v architecture, has OTA , has a good battery size giving it a good range I.e 300 miles plus could be a good choice many are at 50% the cost as when new with sub 30 000 miles on the clock and a few years warranty still remaining! An exciting time in the EV market but still early adopter’s territory and the risk associated with that - improving specs, performance and more competitive prices on the horizon.

There are already massive discounts available on certain new EVs (mainly Stellantis and the end of line Zoes). Do you think manufacturers will continue with list prices of 30k and post discount prices closer to 20k, or are they going to have to adjust their RRP to somewhere closer to the new reality? I've been wanting to replace my 2017 Zoe for a couple of years now, but the cost to change for something noticeably better has remained basically constant. I guess as my Zoe continues on it's path towards worthlessness, that gap is going to erode, so I'll probably be hanging onto it for another year or 2. Does the value drop significantly once one passes 8 years old and the battery warranty expires, or is it irrelevant so long as the SoH is decent?

MG in Australia knocked off a lot of cash just last couple of days. On top of course battery prices are coming down fast. I do wonder when we will hit the cross over where EV prices lower than ICE ones as they get produced less "?

All I'm hearing is that the repair industry for ICE cars will grow for a long time into the future because of EVs. Third-party parts will be produced at an increasing level so people can keep running their old car and not have to worry about affording an EV, and then later possibly more than half the price of the new vehicle if the battery needs replacement. The whole world will be similar to Cuba - 50 year-old ICE cars still running fine because they are maintained. A monumental miscalculation on all fronts.

All this is great if you know what your doing but let’s be honest most don’t and would end up paying through the nose for repairs, a bit like they do now.😂😂

I'm not convinced that's true. Modern cars aren't like 50s Chevvies - they are basically computers on wheels. Parts availability for ICE components will decline as the production of new cars switches over, and it's much harder to make an aftermarket ECU than a carb.

I think people will gradually see the lies spread about EVs for what they are and realise how cheap it is to fuel and service them which will stoke demand well above current levels. Only Tesla are geared to manufacture EVs at huge scale which will lead to demand exceeding supply - which normally l leads to increasing prices. While EV prices have fallen significantly lately and may continue this trend in the short term, the issue will be how soon increasing demand reverses this situation.
