Early January was a good time. The snow-covered mountains were beautiful and it wasn't too hot or too cold. Almost no tourists were around, and the cold kept the bugs away. No queueing times either.

We travelled mid November which included the Childrens 7-5-3 weekend at temples in Narita on Saturday and Fukuoka on the Sunday, then to the Sumo tournament before days in Kyoto and Tokyo. Very pleasant number of people, easy to get around, cooler weather, autumn colours. November is a brilliant month, highly recommend.

Completely agree on August. We travel to Singapore a lot as my wife has relatives there. Sing’s a very hot and humid place. But the most uncomfortable for me was Osaka one August. The humidity had me drenched and dragging.

Been to Japan four times now and always travelled in December/January. It was great!! The weather is so nice, clear blue skies and awesome clear views of Mount Fuji. I didn't mind the crowds. Japanese people are so patient and polity and getting around is so easy.

So based on your video, I have come to the conclusion that the best time to visit Japan is during the second and third week of April. New academic and fiscal year has started, schools reopen, people get back to work. Local tourists will be at the minimum. The Golden week is not here yet. Can't forget the lovely spring weather with the chance to witness cherry blossoms too 🌟😊

I went to Japan in late October and mid December, both trips were great

Conversely I actually loved visiting Japan in late december/early January. Mainly because in Australia its extremely hot from this time period and the cold is much better to deal with. It's also nice to start the new year in a place you enjoy that has different ways to celebrate.

We're going third week of October, so I hope that will be a good time!

I travel Japan every year at the last GW (2 May to 10), its great for sharing public holidays with locals since most of the time travelling ro Japan while everyone is in busy and in hurry. And some events and special offers are usually share the period on GW so its actually not that bad imo.

The New Year is a big holiday in Japan and most of the stores will probably be closed even in tourist areas. As someone from a Tropical country, I do not mind the Summer season in Japan but for people from more temperate countries, the humidity will really be exhausting. Thank you for this information

Rainy season in Japan sounds like hurricane season here in Texas. I hear peak summer in japan is similar to Texas as well, so it doesn't sound that bad. I came to Japan in February the first time and i LOVED it. It rained one day, snowed the next, and was moderately cool. I will say bring gloves for that time of year. I want to go to japan in January/February again because I learned there were snow festivals and events in some part of Japan while I was there. I'm really intrigued by this. I hope to travel to japan in every season to experience local events and festivals. They're really interesting to me.

I always go to Japan after so that I arrive towards the end of golden week (I find the extreme bustle fascinating for a day or two) and then stay for two weeks or so. To me, that's ideal. Mostly the weather is ideal, not too hot, not too rainy and most western countries have not started summer holidays yet, all Sakura tourists are gone, so even places like Kyoto have always been quite calm. Going again in three weeks :)

Been to Japan in all seasons prior to covid. I must say October was the perfect time for me. The weather at that time was just perfect. Not too hot and cool weather^^

I went to Japan in early November 2023 and it was an amazing time where we only had 3 out of 17 rainy days, 2-3 other cloudy days and the rest of the days were sunny and dry. The only drawback is the limited daylight hours.

I would actually like to try and visit in January or February, see what skiing in Japan is like.

I mostly come to Japan when I'm free, and usually out stay most other visitors, typically 3-6 months at a time. I love visiting around Halloween/Christmas & New Years.

I understand why August is bad to visit but I was in Tokyo twice in August and I loved it. The weather is extremely hot but the country is very well equipped with strong AC's in any conbini, train, buildings and so on so personally I loved it.

generally, late march and late november are the best. you get to see cherry blossom and red leaves, even though there are more tourists.

Been 4 times and October was one of the best months

Have been to Japan twice now. First time was late October which was an awesome time to travel! Temperature was great, rain was usually light and the autumn colours were amazing outside of the cities! Second time was early September, and although I managed I do recommend going later. It was still on the constant hot side with 33-34 degrees Celsius. You can push through it but its just draining of energy when you want to enjoy your vacation. Plus I ran into a light silver week. I dont think it was one of 'those' years but it still ment I couldn't book anything cheap in Tokyo and had to divert to a capsule hotel near a train station outside of the city.

Good tips. My daughter and I are going to Japan at the end of November, beginning of December. We didn't have much of a choice as this is the holiday period here in my country.

Really great video. To be honest I love visiting Japan in August. There is just so much happening there! So many fireworks festivals, Obon in Kyoto and Nara is just incredible and also I went to small places such as Yabu in Hyogo or Azumino in Nagano or to enjoy local summer matsuri so I 100% recomend. Also the rice padies are just beautiful too. They will turn golden in September so that is very nice time to visit too. I trully recoment to visit every season as each has to offer so much but just be smart and avoid going to the crowded places and visit something more out of the beaten path. For example during the Golden week I do recomend going to Shikoku to the Iia Valey or other place with a gorge as they they would decorate them with the flying colourful fish kites for the children's day. I could go on and on but in a nut shell, all months are great (i didnt like April though as it was mostly raining!) just plan smart and don't stick to the same most popular places and explore beyong that

Well, I'm there over the new year and Xmas period, late December to early January. We'll see how it goes. I usually go in November, still warm but not crazy hot.

My kids' holiday are mid June to mid July. So no choice, but I really want to visit on October or November.

Hiking Mt. Fuji is on my bucket list, so I had to schedule my trip from earlier September through mid-september and got a hut reservation on the last day of the official hiking season on September 10th. I'm hoping the heat isn't too unbearable at the time, but what from what I have seen through videos, its going to be terrible.

My friends and I looked into this a lot, and talked to many of our Japanese colleagues. We concluded that the best period for travel was mid to late May, and maybe a couple of days in June. September could also work, but May was ideal for us. We had a blast.

As for Golden Week, I've been to Japan multiple times during that. And yes, the touristy places will be very busy indeed. Simple solution: Go to other places! Japan has so much more to offer than just Tokyo and Kyoto! And with a bit of preparation and flaxibility, it will be fine. But the main reason to do travel during Golden Week is the matsuri and other events during that week. There are so many, some extremely crowded, but many not even that much. Same can be said about summer, even when I really don't like the muggy heat, I enjoyed both my summer trips to Hokkaido and Tohoku. Again mostly because of the numerous matsuri. Apart from that, very much agree with everything you said. Personally I like late autumn and winter the best, with cool but generally dry weather. And spring is generally fine.....at least I hope as I'll be flying to Japan again tomorrow! 😀

I traveled nearly every month in Japan. The holidays definitely do bring more crowds from domestic travelers. But also, I would choose based on what you are willing to accept based on your PTO time, your favorite kind of weather, and if possible the events you want to see. I don’t like the cold, but I had a great time in Kyoto in February, and I got to see the Nara Wakakusa Yamayaki in January. I really don’t like the rain, so rainy season was the time I didn’t go anywhere because it was too much of a task for me to walk around with a poncho and rain boots all day.

Ha. I booked my trip last week and it looks like it's right in the middle of Golden Week. I noticed the hotels were a little more expensive but i saved about 40 percent on airfare so I went with it. And strangely enough hotel prices were even higher the second week of May.

November is my favorite month to visit Japan. I have been to Japan 5 times, 3 were November.

I have been there at all seasons except for December, January, February, and early March. As long as you are able to book accommodation in advance, and you don’t mind crowds, anytime seems like a good time to me. Even rainy season was good. Maybe going to Okinawa during typhoon season is risky since flights get cancelled plus you are stuck indoors and can only look at beach through a window. But actually it was kind of exciting. Camping is more important to choose a good time. For restaurants it is better to eat when the crowds are lower. I like eating late lunch before workers get out. Do any shopping during work hours. Otherwise if you want the best experience follow what he said especially Golden Week.

We travelled in Osaka after golden week but it was still packed with tourists 😅
