You can also tell the customer if they refer ten friends who use your service, you'll do their driveway for free. That way they are motivated to tell their friends, and it's like giving a ten percent discount to each of the ten customer.

I used to own a small home studio where I would make musical arrangements for people who wanted their lyrics put to music. I'd give them a price per song and they would haggle under the promise they would bring lots more songs to work on down the road. I would then tell them that for every 3 songs they payed at my regular price the next two would have a discount, never free. Some would not come back because they wanted my work for free.

I'm a landlord and occasionally I'll get a comment that almost always starts like this..."hey, so...I'm pretty handy. Would you be interested in me doing work around the apartment and then I could take the money off the rent?" I always say, "no." Literally, just "no." I'm not rude about it, but the last thing I need is an unlicensed and uninsured "contractor" doing unpermitted work that I didnt want done in the first place without the benefit of getting multiple bids, and them then thinking it's worth 5x the actual market value, for inferior work and/or materials that takes 3x longer than it should to be completed. You would not believe the number of people (actually you might, lol) who are offended or act like I'm an @$$h0le for not considerilng this offer. My other favorite is the people who don't qualify, typically for not one, but several metrics, who tell me they plan on making more money IN THE FUTURE and that there's a good chance they'd be willing to pay EVEN MORE than the rent I'm asking...because you know how people always start making more money and then decide to gift it to their landlord when they most likely already lack fiscal responsibility and/or competency. I say most likely because it's possible for anyone to fall on hard times but the people who do, and are responsible typically aren't shopping for apartments they can't afford and promising future income to 3rd parties.

@@Good-VS-Evil777 Honestly, nope. I don't understand your ideology because I think you're wrong. The average Gen Z child had a cell phone in their hand at age 8. Raising your children on an iPad makes them into crazy people who constantly need validation and attention. Kids who aren't raised like that don't turn out like TikTok attention whores(MOST aren't. Some are.) Secondly, more and more children are being raised in poverty. This leads to violent crime and gang violence. Hence why crime rates have only gone up since the 2008 market crash. Poverty also causes children to lack higher education, which leads to worse job equality and income. It's also easier than ever to get a gun, even if you're a minor(just ask Kyle Rittenhouse how he got his gun). Lastly, Gen Z hasn't "destroyed the country." If anything, they're trying to save it. The middle class Gen-Z is moving away from age-old tradition in order to appeal to ALL of our futures. Tradition keeps things the same. Innovation is void in a traditional society. They're fighting for OUR rights instead for multi-billion dollar corporations that want to bleed this world dry of all natural resources in order to make a quick buck. Also, there's nothing wrong with being gay. I'm sorry if you disagree with that, but it's really none of my business either way. I'm not going to tell you how you should live your life, however: personally, I would suggest you take a step back and try to view the younger generation with a bit more empathy. They are our future. While I do agree that many are troubled, cringe, jaded, and even monsters; here's just a quick reminder that the VAST majority of Gen-Z are just normal people doing normal things with normal lives. The few have never spoken for the many. P.S. Wouldn't you hate it if your parents told all of their friends that you were going to disappoint them and ruin the world? You're essentially doing that with an entire generation. That's not very Christian of you.

@@elisemiller13 so, to my point, they did NOT want to pay for the driveway but if the business did it for free, they get a long list of cold call customers who are probably just like their “gimmie” friend. OR would they want to NOT give private information and “give EVERYONE the business number” instead? I’ve worked in customer service for a very long time. It’s a very valid question to ask a client. If you won’t pay me except in friends names, what are they going to pay me with…friends names? On the other hand, do all your friends buy everything you tell them to? I damn sure don’t. So, if you feel that the “high road” is needed in this case and free services are needed to soothe a customer’s feathers after quoting what the owner seems a fair price for service, customer service may be a bit much for you. The customer is not always right and in these cases, if he got ONE linked client from this, it would be amazing because it normally doesn’t happen at all.

Hate those types of people so much. They feel that because you are able to fix something quick and efficiently and make it look easy that they shouldn't have to pay you what your price was. Like the reason I can do it so quick is because of the years I've spent learning those skills. If it's easy then how about they do it. I had a lady want me to maintenance on her AC, so I told her I'd do it for $60 she got upset and said this other guy always did it for $40. So I said whatever took $20 off. After I was done she said wow you did way more than what the other guy does and she gave me a $5 tip. Absolute slap in the face.
