He was broke...like us....and now he isn't. It's hard to take Get Out of Debt advice from someone who's never been there. So Dave keeps reminding us of his history.

We all know the path to success revolves around a few certain things. Don't have kids out of wedlock, and that you can't afford. Stay in school, trade school, and complete the curriculum. Get a job, take all the training it offers, avail yourself to the educational assistance and advancement programs, and do the work necessary to make yourself a more valuable employee to current employer or potential employers. Avoid destructive behavior such as drugs, alcohol, and gambling. Save and invest a portion of your pay, no matter how small you think that saving is. In short, do the right things, avoid the wrong things, and you will advance. Then add in time, and you will be successful. This is tried and true, and for many of us, the only way.

The reason why people hate rich people it's because they know something that they don't which is the truth I'm not a fan of successful people myself I hate them with a passion I do deliveries and I've done deliveries in three different states for years now and everytime I pull into one of these rich neighborhoods and they have a 70 year old black man working security for some reason like he's going to do anyting you see the hundreds of dollars of toys that they're spoiled kids don't even play with anymore that you couldn't even afford to buy one of them you see the car they buy their teenage daughters that you will never have the money to buy if you save your whole life you see the boat in the yard where they like to go to the lake and you see the nice truck that used to pull it then you look in their garage and you see hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of tools and toys and Sea-Doos and motorcycles and guns just packed in there like a storage shed then I go home to my house at the end of the day mad at the world all over again because I know that I'm one of them people who when the day comes when I die it'll be with nothing nothing absolutely nothing no money no assets no big house in the country know folks none of that no fancy dinners at restaurant so you damn right I hate them you mean to tell me this is the only life we live we only get to be born once and then we're going to die one day and some people live in these gated houses with these in bedrooms their kids have everything they've ever wanted and I have to Budget Shop a couple of small items just to get my kids a Christmas

Well there are three basic kinds of rich people, and I know at least one from each category. First, the rich person who simply inherited or otherwise won wealth (I mostly know these). Gets no credit. Second, a rich person born into a wealth of connections and a solidly middle class background. Made smart choices and took advantage of their connections. Gets partial credit. Third, the person born into middle class or below with few (or no) connections to benefit from. They had to forge a wholly new path to wealth and they get maximum credit. I know one of these.

There is a fourth response that Dave did not mention. That is one of neutral indifference. You see money mere as a tool to live a good life and as long as you make enough to do what you want you have a neutral emotional stance towards other people's money or material good. It neither makes you envious and spiteful or overly enthusiastic and impressed for their material gains, sure you would feel happy that they achieved their dreams but the material wealth itself is not something that impresses you. If the person were to tell you that they made enough money that they were able to buy a nice car or a nice house your response would just be "oh, that's cool" and then move on to another topic of conversation. This doesn't mean you avoid money but getting money is simply one of the tasks of living a good life. It's like doing the laundry, most people don't particularly love or hate doing the laundry its simply a task that needs to be done to go on with your day. If that's your stance about money then you would fall into this fourth response category.

I made myself more valuable in the workplace, paid off debts, saved money and started a small business that I do on top of my day job. I really don’t spend any of the money that my business makes I only use my day job money. Well I have been out of work for a bit and it’s not a problem because I’m very well prepared. I can take a pay check from my small business or use savings. My only debt is my house and my house costs less than 2 years salary from my day job. There's a big difference between resenting rich people and resenting anyone who doesn't pitch in their taxes. We need taxes to pay for police, the military, roads, schools, etc, all things many who say taxes are theft use and sort. It's super annoying that these millionaires are avoiding taxes with loopholes. The regular person don't qualify for most of those loopholes but will pay those taxes.

Acinomnieves3 Agreed. Thats why we need to elect someone like Bernie Sanders into office. That way we can increase taxes on the top 1% in the country. We can then use that money to distribute to the rest of the population so that we can all succeed.

Frederick Shull then please don't use the roads, medicaid when you are older, public schools, or call 911. Please also stop being protected by the military while your are at it. If you use any of these services then yes, we need taxes to help pay for this.

I don’t hate capitalism. But Dave didn’t mention ethics ONCE in this? According to his logic we should be cheering on ALL rich people. Some rich people are organized gangsters, thieves, financial fraudsters, so on. Do we cheer them on? Let’s assume that Dave implied that he only wants you cheering rich people who did it legally. I’ll concede that. Here’s the gray area. Do we cheer rich people who use Legal loopholes to make money? Legal is not equal to moral. There are legal but shady ways to make money, what about that?

To Dave Ramsey, Its not that anyone hates the rich or at least I dont. However the richer you become the more they forget others. The rich pass a bum by as the poor stop and help. This is proven time and time again. The rich forget were they come from or have never seen the other side. Thus making them rude self centered people. Dont get me wrong there are few out there whom still see others and help dispite the ignorance they may have. ( some people are poor due to lack of knowledge.) However most rich people can't see others around them. Some rich are very demanding and dont understand the process it takes. Nor do they care. They also dont like to be told they are wrong. Its not that people hate the rich its because they are to self centered and or have the lack of knowledge. In both parties its lack of knowledge. Jesus Christ is the answer.

We do need to cheer on the wealthy and we can walk and chew gum at the same time we can make sure the wealthy give back and make sure wealth is fairly distributed across the board. 34 grand a year I can definitely acheive that in more oh well if people don't like it! Yusuf, well, some people do work hard and do end up with "something.". Sometimes that is being a "millionare", sometimes that is a secure retirement, sometimes it is a good family life. Also, it is not just "working hard", it is what you are working hard AT. Of course the distribution of opportunities for education, environment or even innate intelligence is definitely not "fair.". A relative has chosen to work her entire adult life in clerical level jobs with non-profits, to her this is "working hard." It makes her happy, but also she is constantly in financial difficulty because she also lives in denial and won't budget or get real about her situation. A conundrum.

Oh I see. They're drivers of our economy and so we should praise them for giving minimum wage jobs instead of a living wage while they continue to enrich themselves with tax cuts. BTW, I don't have a Min. wage job but I have interviewed a lot of hard working people out there that are educated, work hard and pay taxes. While we have some rich folks like Warren Buffet and Bill Gates who don't contribute money politically and instead help people around the world. We have to deal with the Koch brothers who sway politics to help with their agenda and to further enrich themselves.
