I proposed to my wife with no ring while living in a 1940s duplex apartment at the age of 19. She said yes. 2yrs later we got married. We went to Walmart to pick out our wedding bands. Her wedding ring was $35 mine was $45. We've been married for 14yrs next month.

My husband took me to the jewelry store before we got engaged on a whim and I told him all the things that I didn't like in a ring and found a ring setting that I kinda liked except for the metal color and told him the diamond shape I liked. Well he blew it out of the park picking a ring and Diamond. I have no idea what he spent (and honestly don't want to know), but for me the reason why I love it so much is because he told me the story of all the hoops he had to jump through to find the perfect ring. So the ring is a representation of the effort he put into it because of how much he loves me. And that is why a ring is important. It's not necessarily the ring it's what it represents. Especially if you put forth the effort to figure out what she loves. It's not about what you want its about what she wants.

Same! 5 years later, our 3rd child is 3 weeks old and we are still in the honeymoon phase. Our wedding cost less than $1k and I gave my hubby a $300 cap on the ring...because at the end of the day, that's a piece of metal with pretty rocks and it has no effect on our dedication to maintaining our love and our relationship.

🙋‍♀️ Saw the title and it reminds me of my MIL. My FIL always hoped to leave a legacy for the Grandchildren. He died in a nursing home leaving my MIL $100,000+ in savings, a nice house and no debt. The problem is that my 83 years old MIL is trying live on ONLY her Social Security so she can honor his wish to leave that money to the grandkids. The grandchildren all have decent jobs. How do I convince her that she deserves decent shoes, hearing aids, weekly breakfast at McDonald’s with her friends and other basic needs EVEN if she spends a bit of that money. ??

In regard to tuning in every day or frequently. Here is a cross comparison. There are some people in some form of 12 Step Recovery from alcohol or drugs etc that continue to got to meetings decades after they have sobered up. They not only do this as a reminder for them and to help keep them in check, but also for others. They are trying to be part of a larger community and helping to encourage others and out sponsor others. I've also seen people at 12 Step meeting that never struggled themselves but had a family member that may have. Deposit personal politics about Bill Wilson and whether or not he was a processed Christian at least some of the 12 Step and Oxford principles were based on faith based principles. The was a man named Jesus who seemed to have fondness for trying to help heal broken people or lost people. Appreciate the Love Thy Neighbor attitude that some of the guests on the show and hosts have. I have been in a state of severe emotional stress and shock for a very long time. This was probably severely wording my memory condition. I can see things getting a lot better in the future. Praying for God to help see me through this.

The 18 year old young woman who left home can probably make an appeal to have her FAFSA status updated to not be tied to her parents income. This could help her to qualify for financial aid - grants, not loans - based on her small income. She may need to seek an attorney for some guidance.

@@reneespring834 it's been so long since I made this comment I had to scroll back to the show to find the reference point. She had to leave her parents home due to an unsafe living condition. She can make her case in front of the judge and more than likely be legally separated from her parents for the purposes of FAFSA. I can't remember exactly what leads me to believe this from a past experience but I was a foster parent in the past and strongly believe that exceptions can be made in an extreme situation.

@@lindaburnside3832 I have also been a foster parent and worked for child protection in my state. It is a gray area because we don’t know the exact situation. Difference of opinion, parents not the greatest, etc vs. actual abuse. If this was established prior to age 18 and she was emancipated, it would be black and white. Like a foster kid, or a grandparent custody. Just really complicated, and the young people in these situations usually don’t have the resources to work it out. We have one in my extended family that is a total heartbreak situation, I tried to intervene without success. 💔

Andrew in Milwaukee... look into Moissanite. It is lab created stone that has a wonderful radiance to it, more brilliant than a diamond!! They have minimal impact to the environment, no mining. I am 49, married 3 1/2 years, together 5 years. My engagement ring center stone is 3.1 carats with 1 carat of baguettes (6 stones) on the sides. I got the big, flashy ring I wanted, my husband didn't have to break the bank, which I also wanted. I get SO MANY compliments on my total 4 carat ring that cost less than $4,000.

TFSA is not the same as a Roth. In Canada, because taxes and benefits are high, it generally makes sense to max out your RESP BEFORE the TFSA, especially when you are above a certain tax bracket (above 100k/family income). This will increase your tax return and all types of benefits throughout the year (family benefits, etc.), and it will free money that you can then reinvest in your TFSA. Best strategy = max out RESP each year, than fill up the TFSA. Whatever interests are produced by the RESP, reinvest that in your TFSA. Also, take your tax return and put it in your TFSA.
@hellocolor101llo5
@hellocolor101llo5 2 жыл бұрын
This is especially true in Qc because taxes are so high. The more you earn, the more it makes sense to try to get in a lower tax bracket (especially if you are earning just above a lower tax bracket).

For any other Canadians, for the retirement account it’s worth considering that the TFSA amount can be used in later years if you don’t use it this year but RRSP can only be used for one year then you lose that limit.

@@damonsteinke599 yes, if your annual limit is 20k, you can only deposit the 20k within that year and the next year you'll get another allotment. TFSA deposits can happen every time, if you don't use it one year, your limit next year will be bigger
