The decline is here, went into a well known high street bank to pay in cash, the cashier counted the notes one at a time very slowly, then she asked her colleague to check them! Whoops! When I was a kid the cashier would count the notes at such speed it was a complete blur, yet they were always bang on. Dumbing down and down and down! How & why has this happened, are youngsters genuinely thicker than the generation before?

Took scottish polymer banknotes to West Midlands Post office, they eyed the notes with suspicion and started checking the serial numbers against a list as apparently there are counterfeit ones in circulation. Thought the whole point of these new notes was to eliminate the number of forgeries? Strangely, when paying in old paper notes in Scotland they just stick them through the note counter without a second glance...

There is no saving to be passed on to the customer, quite the opposite. I have been a retailer for forty years, believe me, it is WAY more expensive for a small retailer to take a card payment than to pay cash into a bank ( assuming you can find one!)

What happens when the internet is down or your phone provider goes down? How would a shop take payments then? How would the customer pay?

I was in ASDA packed out with shoppers, got to the tills unloaded shopping trolley. Every till packed in you could not use cards. the scramble for the cash machine was on. So cashless will no doubt be a nightmare when you have nothing to fall back on.

As usual no infrastructure for a backup plan. Same goes to leftie go green crap. Small businesses will be effected due to disconnections and more payments to banks for the card use which then puts the cost of goods up even higher!

My local petrol station do not take credit cards and they charge 6 p per litre less than the others that is £3.60 saving to me.

Cash or card should always be an option. What happens when the card reader isn’t working or the system goes down altogether? Thats common sense. To force it anyway just proves its all about control
