Been here for two years. Originally from the Northeast. The one thing I would disagree with you about is the weather. The four seasons here are infinitely better than up north. Up north we live through up to five months of winter. I’ll take a few cold days and a few ice storms and a few nice days interrupted by some more cold days over anything the Northeast has to offer as far as winter. it does not get real cold here. And it doesn’t stay winter for months and months on end. I’ll take it any day.
@LivingInGreensboroNC

We for sure have all four seasons - which I love. I don't like the ice. I went to school in Vermont which had the 5 seasons - the one of just mud with all the snow melting. We don't have that here. I just hate when our big trees take out the power for days. I also don't love the heat - but that's a personal preference.

My problem with Greensboro is the lack of modern and consistent growth of the city overall and preferably the downtown scene. It’s pathetic when you compare to how rapid other NC cities such and Durham, Raleigh, or Winston-Salem have grown. However, I do feel that Gboro is much more family friendly city to live in
@LivingInGreensboroNC
@LivingInGreensboroNC 2 жыл бұрын
I feel like Greensboro is growing. Compared to when I moved here 23 years ago it’s definitely grown, especially downtown. Raleigh and charlotte are massive compared to greensboro but you’re also paying big time for real estate. I don’t see that Winston has more to offer than GSO. Greensboro is a great place to raise a family and retire for sure.

OMG yes, this! I am buying a house from my parents in greensboro because it's the only way i'll get into the housing market at all anymore - i'm going to flip it, basically, because it's a gorgeous old house they can't take care of anymore that needs a ton of work and will be, when i'm done, an 1890s farmhouse with two acres and a creek out on the edge of town, surrounded by other large private properties so no worries about some hideous cookie-cutter subdivision moving into your front yard. But yeah... the "scene" is pathetic in Greensboro, unless you like beer (you can't throw a stick without hitting a brewery in Greensboro - and I'm not really a fan of beer). Every time I go visit fam I wind up driving to Chapel Hill or Raleigh-Durham for something to do. Oh well, at least I'm on the eastern edge of the city so it cuts about 20 minutes off that drive? Sadly if we don't stay where we are we'll probably rent somewhere over in that area while I work on this beautiful house, because the schools appear to be kind of crappy in gboro, too.

My problem with Greensboro are the new people moving here, especially from the northeast…specifically New York and New Jersey. They’re killing the kindness and warmth of what makes NC “southern”. The kindness is being run over by self centeredness and “me me me” and worse “screw you” mentality. Also, unfortunately, the politics are changing more toward loose and “progressive” morals. I believe in to each their own, be yourself and love who you love. But, the effort to put an end to traditional Americana is quite disappointing and sad. Please come. Please fit in. Stop trying to change things so drastically and do respect those who built this place and have done their best to make it a welcoming and warm “home”.

I disagree a bit on the weather. Coming from Texas, my idea of "hot" and "muggy" may be calibrated a bit different. It does get warm in the summer time, but only for a few weeks almost never above 100 degrees. And it gets nowhere near as muggy as a coastal town down further south. As far as winter weather, I have been here over twenty years and only recall a couple of significant ice storms. And it certainly snows here a couple times a year, more than I was used to in Texas. It doesn't stick around, but you may get a few days of freeze/thaw cycles meaning multiple mornings of slick roads even after a light snowfall. In general, I enjoy the four seasons of weather here without it getting either extremely hot or extremely cold.
@LivingInGreensboroNC
@LivingInGreensboroNC Жыл бұрын
Everyone's idea of hot and muggy are different. I don't love the heat. And we do have several days of over 100 (or at least with the heat index) but you're right- it doesn't last long. We get ice here more than you think. I live in an older neighborhood with old trees and broken down power lines. Maybe that's why I'm more sensitive to it. We lose power every winter - but not this year! FIngers crossed. We haven't had snow yet this year have we? It's a weird winter for us - it's 74 degrees in February today?!?

Listen up guys. If You’re thinking about moving to greensboro.. DISREGARD THIS VIDEO! Greensboro is a great city with great people. If you were to use this lady’s logic then every city would be a bad city to move to. Each city has its “bad” traits. Ive been living in greensboro all my life and i have not experienced not ONE bad moment. BTW The comment about the crime rates…. they are generally limited to specific neighborhoods/areas. So if you’re trying to avoid that then move to another area! Dont generalize the whole of greensboro as dangerous. P.S if you live in this city then why talk down on it?

Everyone drives 15 miles over the speed limit here, so el wrongo about the slow drivers. We get practically no snow here, one or two storms a year that melt away in a few days. Rent is high but it's high in most cities and suburbs.
@LivingInGreensboroNC
@LivingInGreensboroNC 2 жыл бұрын
I"m going to nicely disagree on the driving - most people here are in the left lane driving slow. If they are going 15 mph over the speed limit then they are weaving through traffic. We don't get alot of snow here, and when we do snow is always welcoming - its the ice that takes out the power lines in the older neighborhoods. That is an issue for those that live in areas with no bigger trees.

Transplant here, I also can't handle the driving. The congestion on the main roads (Wendover, Battleground) makes me want to rip my hair out sometimes. I've definitely seen the slow drivers, but you also get the occasional *psychotic* drivers who think that the city streets are their personal NASCAR track. At least once a month or so I see something crazy happening on the roadways such as big gangs of people doing wheelies and weaving through traffic, crazy guys in souped out sports cars speeding down the streets at 100 mph, or aggressive tailgaters who will bear down on you even when you are already going over the speed limit yourself. These things definitely happen more in my neck of the woods (south side) but I would imagine that they happen elsewhere as well. Its quite something to see.

Former resident of 32 years. I HATED Greensboro for being a big college town that hates young people and does their best to destroy their fun. City council was always harassing nightclub owners and live music venues. Musicians from the area who became successful made it a point to say that they were from somewhere else.... Usually Chapel Hill. Also, it's a major capital for racism outside of the UNCG area. Glad to be away from that oversized bedroom town with it's boring architecture and questionable history. And no, it never was the Furniture Capital of the World.

I feel like you'd have the best of both worlds between Florida and New Jersey. All four seasons and not terribly cold winters. I will look into the music scene. We have so many bars, pubs, breweries and open spaces, I feel like there are a lot of options. There are also 5 colleges here, so that brings the opportunity for live music.

Actually, Downtown Greensboro has the highest crime in the city, but this doesn't reflect in the stats because downtown makes up parts of every district. Drivers... Over 50% of Greensboro residents are from up north. Think about it.. Weather, check the 1990s and 1970s when we had huge snowstorms. They'll be back. Our bus system sucks because every route goes through downtown. Yes, property taxes are high, but our entire city council are relocated northerners.

Great vid, I enjoyed your take on Greensboro NC. Im from Greensboro and I can stand it. Its so plain and boring. It has no real history or structures that set it apart from other places. The downtown is super small for a mid size city. It feels like its super behind when it somes to other cities its size. The best part of Gso in my opinion is the Uncg area.

I’m from the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania and moved to Greensboro in 2010, graduated as an adult student from UNCG, and I’m now a second career elementary school teacher in Greensboro. I love it here! Compared to where I’m from it’s a metropolis. Great food, some good bars, the science center, Greensboro theatre, etc. Drivers are TERRIBLE. No one uses mirrors or turn signals and the cross four lanes of traffic without looking! UNCG is great if your liberal, but for moderates like me or conservatives, it can make you feel pretty unwelcome and will never receive another dollar from me. Overall, love Greensboro and plan to spend the rest of my life here!

This is why I left Greensboro. It is a great city to raise a family and is probably the most affordable city for housing and nice neighborhoods in the country. However, there is just not that much going on in Greensboro. Yes, you are hours drive to the mountains or coast. And that is the point you are hours from anything that is truly interesting. If you like to play golf, go out to some nice restaurants, and purchase a nice home at a great price then Greensboro is a good choice. The price of the real estate reflects that there is not a compelling reason to move there. You are still a ways from the beauty and things to do on the coast and a decent drive from any mountains. I live on the Gulf Coast of Florida and have a home on a mountain lake in Virginia - Greensboro is great but glad I live where live now.

I've lived in Greensboro since 2015, and I love it. I've lived all over the Eastern US, and Greensboro is delightful. The "crime rate" is literally isolated to a few small neighborhoods, which are easy to avoid. Any rational, law-abiding, sensible person would never visit those parts of town anyway, unless they were lost, or looking for trouble. All these other things this video complain about are just the whinings of a carpetbagging, entitled, Yankee :"Karen" who would never be satisfied no matter where she lived. This lady sounds like the type that could be living in Windsor Castle, and she would complain about the cold marble floors, and the fact that her neighbors lived too far away... The only REAL "con" to Greensboro is that the City Government and school systems are being completely infiltrated by "WokeVolk". She;'s spot-on with the high property taxes (compared to other places in NC), but they are REALLY low compared to other Democrat-controlled urban areas like DC, Baltimore, Chicago, or NYC. These "WokeVolk"in our government are working VERY hard to destroy economic development, give contracts to their cronies, and foster division and racial tensions in a city that otherwise is VERY diverse, friendly, cooperative, and cordial. Hopefully more people who are genuinely interested in Freedom, Liberty, Prosperity, and Cooperation will move to the Greensboro area, and we can take the wheel, and put this city on track for fulfilling it's great potential, before these WokeVolk turn it into another "Progressive" dystopia like Richmond VA, Baltimore MD, or Atlanta GA...

As a realtor I can't tell you which areas are bad, but I can tell you to check out crimemapping.com and greensboro-nc.gov. With that being said, less crime areas are 27403, 27401, 27410, 27408, 27455 and 27358, 27310 as a starting point. Oak Ridge and Summerfield are in the country/county but there isn't much to do there. They are a quick 15-25 mins to downtown - which offers a ton of things to do. They are building more homes out that way, but no necessarily "things to do". But I don't know what you're looking to do. So I'd say stick to Greensboro if you're ok with living close to downtown and having lots to do, or check out northern Greensboro - 27455. This is similar to Oak Ridge and Summerfield - where they are building up neighborhoods, but not necessarily huge town shops, etc. I hope this helps - please let me know if I need to clarify more.

What crime? Y'all got a long way to go before you have 8 murders on your street. I am from Memphis, lived here 11 years and have never feared for my life. I'll take 60 murders a year over 400 plus. As to traffic, you must not live off of Battleground. Honey, if you haven't experienced Saturday Biscuitville traffic you don't know what you talking about. Battleground and Wendover are the worst. Oh and y'all the roads make zero sense here. You'll be halfway to Asheboro before you realize you took the wrong exit. Your tranist is on time. Y'all have busses that tell you where they are in real time. It ain't MATA (it don't MATA if you get there or not-Memphis Area Transit Authority). I'll take high property taxes if it means my homeless neighbors can do laundry and shower. In Memphis you just see homeless people baking and peeing in the street in front of you. I day let's take care of one another is worth me paying $900/year (county and city tax combined in taxes). And weather here is fantastic. You have seasons. In Memphis you have 2 seasons freezing and nasty. And Memphis has year round mosquitos and West Nile virus. You want real misery go live in Memphis like I did for 13 years.

I guess some people on this forum don't realize that you are simply trying to provide a balanced perspective of this city. Personally, I believe that any city that has ice storms should put utility lines underground when they resurface the neighborhood streets so there are no more power outages and so that more trees can be planted without concern for power lines. The beauty of neighborhoods would be vastly improved if the utilities were underground, as very few people view utility lines and telephone poles to be aesthetically pleasing. @@LivingInGreensboroNC

THIS WOMAN SOUNDS TO MUCH LIKE A SORRORITY GIRL TRYING TO SELL YOU ON THE COLLEGE SHE GOES TO. I REALLY MISS THE GRITTINESS OF YESTERDAYS MAN AND WOMAN FROM MY MOTHERS GENERATION WHO TAUGHT ME SO WELL ON HOW TO CARRY MYSELF.

@@LivingInGreensboroNC YOU LIVE A SHELTERED LIFE DONT YOU??? DONT ANSWER. YOUR HUSBAND PROBABLY WORKS A THOUSAND HOURS A WEEK AND YOU HANG OUT WITH YOUR GIRLFRIENDS SPENDING 300 DOLLARS ON A SPORTS BRA, WEAR IT ONCE AND THROW IT AWAY, I KNOW I AM CLOSE TO THE TRUTH SOMEWHERE AND I WOULD BE SCARED TO THINK OF WHAT YOUR KIDS ARE LIKE WHO ARE GETTING THEIR BRAINS WASHED IN THE UNIVERSITY SYSTEM IN A HOUSE OF PORN AND SCORN. I CAN READ PPL A MILE AWAY. WERE YOU RAISED ON ADEROL AND RIDDLIN AND OTHER PRESCRIPTION DRUGS THAT ARE TOXIC??? MY MOTHER WAS BORN IN 1939 AND WHEN I THINK OF THIS GENERATION AND HER GENERATION, THERE IS NO COMPARISON AT HOW BALANCED THEY WERE COMPARED TO TODAY, BACK IN THE DAY WHEN THE CHROME WAS THICK ON CARS AND THE WOMEN WERE STRAIGHT. WHICH ERA DO YOU THINK YOU RESEMBLE??? DONT ANSWER. I THINK I ALREADY KNOW. YOU SHOULD PACK IT UP AND MOVE TO CALIFORNIA, MANY MORE PPL OUT THERE THAT PROBABLY THINK THE WAY YOU DO AND YOU CAN HAVE YOUR DOPE LEGALIZED AND DRIVE AROUND WITH YOUR BIDEN STICKER ON YOUR CAR, CAUSE IN THE SOUTH ITS MOSTLY GOD, GUNS, GUTS AND TRUMP AND BEING PROUD OF THE MILITARY BEFORE THE DEMOCRATS DESTROYED IT WHOM YOU MIGHT LOVE.

If you think Greensboro is "thug town", you don't get out much. Take a trip to Camden NJ or Detroit.
