Man, thank goodness for KZfaq and podcasts! Back in the late 1900’s, telling my age, you had to know someone who knew something in order to get the information that is being seen by thousands now on these platforms! We were told that the broadheads just shot different than your field tips, typically high and right, so you just re-sighted in your bow to your broadheads when it got close to season. Sure wish we had known better! So thank you for providing this resource of knowledge. I’m really enjoying both of your guy’s channels and the wood stove conversations!

One of the most comprehensive broadhead tuning videos out there. Thank you. Been going through all this again over the last few weeks getting ready for this season and had to cycle through about 6 other videos from other KZfaqrs to get all the info that y’all put in this one. Also had to sift through a couple other videos that have the horizontal rest adjustment backwards. The method you described is absolutely correct. If someone has to do the exact opposite, go back to square 1, something’s up with that setup. Timing out, wrong arrow spine, etc. Question: do you like the high roller target? I need to replace my 18-1 (no complaints on it) but have been looking at the high roller. Specifically for broad heads.

In the All Broadhead Tuning Questions video by Elkshape last year, MFJJ said if the broadhead hits left, move the rest right; the opposite of this video. Did what he said in this video and my BH and FP touch. But it makes my paper tune off. Can't have both a great paper tune and BH tune on my bow for some reason...probably just me. So I'm prioritizing the BH tune over the paper. Hopefully that pans out

Nice video! Also guys, keep in mind there’s always the factor of human error. I know the goal is to make them hit exactly the same every time you shoot but it’s difficult to do that constantly without having some flyers right. I’d say start fresh (rest) after doing this excersice for a long time and then try again, then when you think you got it right, rest again and try it the next day to see if your first two shots (arrows) are touching, this is when I’d call it good.

I haven’t seen a pro shop with even half of the knowledge Josh has in over 20 years. Nobody seems to care enough about their job, and your equipment to take any of the proper tuning steps. They take a bow out of the box, slap accessories on, tie a peep and d loop, and send you on your way. The only way we can get the most out of our equipment, is to either buy the press and draw board and do our own work, or drive to Washington and ask for MFJJ. Lol It’s sad and frustrating, but we all need to learn to work on our own bows

Good stuff man. I generally don’t have an issue getting B heads to hit with field points until I start to really stretch the yardage. That said, I’ve wondered at the process of bare shaft tuning and fletched arrow tuning through paper and then throwing that out the window for broadhead tuning. If I couldn’t get heads to fly with field points even though my bow was shooting bullets through paper, I would just use a different sight for broadheads. Anyways, who cares, I’m not a KZfaqr. Good to see the joint custody of MFJJ is working out.

I’ve learned over the years that it is better to work on this more than ONE shooting session. We all have better days than others so a few different day sessions will usually give you a better feedback. That’s obvious. And people don’t shoot their broad head’s enough for whatever reason. Buy more than one pack and shoot them. Things change and it’s vitally important to know that throughout the season your arrows are hitting BEHIND THE PIN!
@glee2004

I was hitting broadhead left and when I moved my rest to the left it got worse, had a weird kick out on the back of the arrow, I think the fletching was hitting the side of the drop away housing because then, after I sent an arrow into the forest, I moved it back to the right I had the broadhead and field point hitting in the same hole.

MFJJ If you took a bow that was tuned and shooting arrows with broadheads and practice tips in the same spot, then slightly moved the rest to the right and shot you would see the target tips hitting slightly right and broadheads hitting even farther right. You would not move the rest to the right to correct. It needs to move back to the left. Please explain.

I know this is a month old. Not sure if you’ll get this but since PAs season doesn’t start until October I’ve just started checking things over. Decided to give fixed blades a try this year with the new V3X. My left and rights are good but I’m consistently 4 inches high at 20 and 30. Tries moving the rest slightly down twice maybe 1/16th total and did nothing. Was told by two bow shops my timing is on and it might just be the way it is. I have noticed the original shop set my nock height a little low so the center of the arrow is running maybe through the bottom of the burger hole. Would raising everything up so it’s center of the burger hole help? I’ve also heard some bows like nock high and mine appears to be 90 or very slightly nock high but not an 1/8th like I’ve been told. Just wondering if the master FMJJ would have any suggestions. Love you guys both especially with the technical content. Has helped me gain confidence in adjusting my bow on my own during the tuning process. Thanks!!

Just a try honest question I need an answer to. Does broadhead to fletching or vane alignment matter? I shoot field tips all year, then for hunting season I always buy new arrows square em up then fletch em aligned to the way the broadgeads are set in the insert....does Ant of this even matter?

Matthews phase 4. 31 inch draw, 75 pound mods, 250 spine victory TKO’s, hundred grain iron Will broadhead. OK here’s my question. Do my field tips have to hit where my broad heads are hitting? Why don’t I tune everything for the broad heads to be perfect for hunting and leave the field tips in the garage for next season‘s TAC.

Now go back and paper test after broadhead tuning.(it should be out of tune again) So in fact paper testing in general is useless. Shoot a bare shaft to get the correct spine sighting in the bow left/right and up/down walk back tuning. Now going strait to broadhead tuning.
