Maisie is an actress, an entrepreneur, and an activist. Yet to this day, she has no formal qualifications to her name. Her career has been built upon a symphony of seemingly normal opportunities that evolved into extraordinary, life changing events.
Maisie tells the story of working on what ended up becoming the biggest television show of all time from the age of 12. She discusses why she thinks right now is the perfect time to build tools for communities and how her platform, daisie, will redefine creative collaboration.
Margaret Constance Williams, known as Maisie Williams, is an English actress. She made her professional acting debut in 2011 as Arya Stark of Winterfell in the HBO world phenomenon Game of Thrones. Selected among 300 British actresses, she plays the role of a tomboyish young girl from a noble family for which she won numerous awards.
Her broad artistic life led her to co-found Daisie, a social media aimed at creative people in the world of arts, fashion, tv, film, photography, music, and literature. The aim of the app is to bring individuals from across industries together, to help foster collaborations with other artists and provide an alternative route into creative industries. Maisie said “Our main goal is to have a community of artists that are collaborating, uploading their work and sharing their projects.. helping others create their careers.”
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Most humans naturally pick up social cues. The silence is uncomfortable because we can tell that Maisie expects that her audience will find what she's saying funny. When they don't respond, we empathize with her and we feel the awkwardness we think she may have felt based on how awkward we would feel for ourselves. That said, that doesn't necessarily mean there's anything wrong with people who don't pick up on that. You, for example, were focused on the actual contents of her speech. And that's totally ok

@Cillit Bang You think she's a multi-millionaire? You might want to get in touch with reality, they'd like a word with you. ;-) Yes, she got a lucky break, as do many others, but the point is if you do go for those initial chances and opportunities then you are never going to get the chance of a lucky break. You have to take the first step, not wait for it to drop in your lap. Having that break is only the start, talent is what has kept her there. It's also easy to bang on about it when you're bitter about not getting a break.

@@Killinemkid Do you? The answer is no, seeing as their wages have never been stated. Also, just because they get paid what seems to be a lot, they also have to pay out for agents, management, publicists and all the other people attached to doing that job, never mind all the other costs associated with that life. It's likely that she's been paid enough to make it into a multi-million figure in total earnings but once you cater for costs she isn't worth multi-millions, therefore she isn't a multi-millionaire.

Crowd audio typically isn’t captured accurately in TED talks. At certain points, you can hear laughter, but hearing the crowd without audio mics depends on a lot of different variables. Seems the focus is on the speaker, which I can appreciate. It’s awful when the crowd is louder than the speaker

I admire Maises bravery to speak on stage but honestly her speech did kinda felt flat. I think part of the problem was that she was too young so there wasn't really much experience to touch on and there was really no thematic message. It was more just how she got started with acting, how Got became the biggest show and her app. Other than that, proud of what she already have accomplished
