Thanks for the feedback. The sole that goes up on the back of the shoe is along the Norse style footwear. The reinforced heels on these 14th century boots is indicative of that time period. We try to recreate the boots as close as we can to the certain time periods. As for the straps I’ll have to agree that they are only a 5/6 ounce leather. The same leather the shoe is made from. They are not designed for cinching them down to hold your foot in place with the heavy soles. This style boot is designed for the casual reenactor. If you are looking for a more heavy duty every day boot that will compare to a modern hiking boot give me a shout. We can design something for you. Thanks for the videos. You are doing a great job on them.

You might next time have Frank at Viking Leathercraft add the lug, or look at Bohemond, he also does a lugged sole that works well for SCA fighting.

Excellent effort buddy. Some people use insoles inside their medieval footwear. Not sure if that might appear to you.

I did use an insole and an insert and I also would highly recommend using them. The definitely make a world of difference.
