Nice upload, thank you. Great match-up. Two outstanding welters. Starling sure was a tough guy to fight. Very strong, quick, awkward, and a hard puncher. Curry had his hands full here.

In my view Starling definitely deserved the decision. Much busier, quicker and more effective punching and defence. I honestly could only give the last round to Curry and thats probably due to Starling finally tiring after pressing rhe whole fight up until that point!

Not the first time I've disagreed with Lederman. I think Marlon caught a lot of Curry's punches on the gloves, forearms, and elbows. I guess he didn't score Marlon's body work either.

I had Curry winning this. He didn't really get started until the 4th but he landed the more cleaner shots. Starling didn't do enough and don't think the showboating helped his cause.

Great fight by 2 outstanding fighters. Marlon starling whom ive never seen get hit by a real solid punch throughout his whole carrer due to his beautiful defense was an exceptional fighter. Although he was hit solid by Tomas molinaries but that was after the bell. Marlon starling is an all time great. Donald Curry was also a major force in the ring,known for his willingness to fight anybody and his skills. His willingness to fight Hagler whom he never got to fight has always impressed me. Marlon Starling is so f*cking confident because his impenetrable Guard was so tight that opponents couldn't hit him cleanly - even super puncher Mark Breland. A Master of the Boxing Guard. And I'm a big Donald Curry fan - he should have been the next Sugar Ray, a superstar.

Marlon was one tough guy to fight,i really don't think Donald won this fight. Marlon was throwing more and landing more. I never got the thumbs down that 2nd to Nunn got for his performance against Marlon. Marlon was one of the best fighters of that era and just because Nunn wasn't able to walk right through Starling they called it lackluster. You don't just walk through Starling, his defense and offense is too good for that. I gave Nunn all the credit in the world for his performance against Starling. Starling is a great fighter and i miss his participation in the sport to this day,he really made the sport exciting!!!

I`ve become convinced that what cost Starling throughout his career was his unique attitude. It`s a strange mixture of hubris/entitlement. It definitely jarred with the judges.

These are one of those decisions i never understood. Not one time do i recall where curry landed a real meaniful punch on starling. Starling was catching everything with his superb defense. Starling was a very tough fighter for anybody to fight, even Michael Nunn( who i think is the best fighter Starling ever fought) had a hard time landing on Starling. Starling was a complete fighter, excellent defense that had a great bag of offense mixed in with that. Starling was catching curry with just about everything he wanted to throw, including uppercuts. No discredit to curry, good fighter i just think he lost this fight by a huge margin.

Not taking anything away from the Cobra but don't think he won this fight. But no complaints cause im a fan of both fighters.

Sugar Ray Leonard in round 9 Curry threw a combination that was block twice, and Starling said you can't hit me. The commentators talked as if he got hit, and the punches were clearly caught on the arms. Through the whole fight Starling landed the cleaner punches, and the most affective.

The more skillful the boxer the harder it is to see what he does well. Don Curry was almost too subtlety skilled for his own good. Gil Clancy said it best when he said he was cute on the inside. 50/50 fight from start to finish, Starling can count himself unlucky not to have at least got a draw, anything more than that woulda been a crime against Curry. Im gonna have to watch some more of Curry to see where he can be got at. Yea yea, Honeyghan out hustled him n made it a street fight, Thats the obvious way but McCallum, Norris nor Nunn didn't outbox him. They beat him but didnt school him n he was making McCallum look like the poor relation up until he landed that "get outa jail free " long left hook I rekon Curry had mental blocks, held himself back a bit. Curry is basic but slick, hes kinda stiff but hes relaxed, he does nothing flamboyant but he keeps yer attention. I rekon Curry is just one of those guys ya gotta get in there with n pay the price to find out.

Curry is a great boxer no doubt but macculum outsmarted him to setup that knockout look at the the fight again he picked up on curry habits and flaws and timed the left hook beautifully one of the best ko in boxing history especially against someone as skilled as curry
@SPIDERM0OSE
@SPIDERM0OSE 3 жыл бұрын
@@outlawboxing1923 That wasn't set up, he threw it in anger n frustration. McCallum was a very clever boxer n you may be correct but its not wat I seen. Wanna see a KO set up look how Canelo set Khan up over 3 rounds. Look how Sugar Ray Leonard set up Dave Boy Green over 2:rounds or watch Sugar Ray Robinson how he would condition van opponent to accept a certain shot, usually a hook to the body then pull the rug out from under him. McCallum threw reactively coz Curry was was doing the setting up n executing. McCallum wasnt exactly in desperation mode but he was entering it, he refused to play ball but he set nothing up there. Curry got caught admiring his own work n paid the price for that novice mistake against a great fighter.
@outlawboxing1923

SPIDERM0OSE I haven seen the fight for years but from what I remember macculum set up curry from faking to the body which was his trademark then going upstairs green and khan were domestic British level fighters much easy to set them up then someone like curry even way if it was curry mistake macculum took advantage of it making him the better fighter on the night
@SPIDERM0OSE
@SPIDERM0OSE 3 жыл бұрын
@@outlawboxing1923 Khan is an Olympic Silver, Curry coulda at best only got to the same stage of the contest as him Khan has won at least one n fought world titles at different weights, on the night he might not have won em all but he was beyond British domestic level, way beyond it. Lloyd Honeyghan was closer to British domestic level than Khan n he stopped Curry. Green was European Champion, back then with no IBF or WBO its the equivalent of holding one of the big 4 world titles. Leonard is an all time great n made it look way easier than it was, Green was a good fighter about where Liam Smith is today n maybe a slight step down from Ricky Hatton but he was beyond domestic Brit level. Brits back then didn't get to the world stage unless they had a genuine chance of winning, there was far less opportunities back then, on any given night its a 50/50 fight between Hatton & Green. And yes, that one moment of the fight, that one moment in that entire night where McCallum had more success & quality than Curry was enough to get him the win, thats boxing at the top level, one lapse in concentration n its game over, well done, well spotted 👍

SPIDERM0OSE I disagree with khan yes he did achieve things at the world level to be fair and he was a great amateur but that’s only to the lack of depth in pro boxing these days in the 80s khan would have been irrelevant thing about this he got outsmarted by Danny Garcia who figured him out in 3 rounds hahahahaha he made Danny Garcia look like a prime duran smh

Can't stand SRL as a fight color guy. When HBO hired him, they wanted him to take some broadcasting instruction but Ray told them to stick it. His lack of polish showed all through his career with CBS and HBO. Mixed syntax, clichés galore and urban, street pronunciations ("..takin' punches to da heeaaaaad). He rode his reputation as a fighter for a long time (...I mean "tahhhhime") as a broadcaster. Sounds so much worse when paired with Ryan and Clancy, two excellent professionals. I was always amazed how Tim Ryan could call ANYTHING with excellence. He did it all...Hockey, Basketball, Football and Boxing with great narration and skill. He was terrific at picking up punches that were significant in a fight and not awed by the flash of blazing combinations where only a punch or two landed with any kind of effect.
