Also his involvement and part ownership of an Indycar team. I used to like watching his show to see the diverse guest list and crazy stunts/gimmicks they'd do. Two I remember well were dropping things from the roof of the building to see what would happen to them when they hit the road, the fluorescent light tubes smashed but stayed in a straight stick pattern after smashing, so from the roof it looked like a bunch of white toothpicks laying scattered below. The other was a massive catapult which they put pumpkins in one at a time and fired it to see how far down the street they'd go. He's had Sebastian Vettel, David Coulthard, Juan Pablo Montoya, Eddie Irvine, Murray Walker, Jacques Villeneuve, Alex Zanardi and maybe even more of F1's personalities on his show 😎

This is something I haven't heard mentioned much. His commentary gave the F1 97 era PSX / PC games a whole different sound concept. His style even matches the clunky way it worked in game back then
@PrestonPlourdProjects2 жыл бұрын
I first heard his voice in Formula One 2001 on PS2. I didn’t watch F1 in my elementary school days, so I really didn’t know anything about it. Both that game and F1 2000 on PS1 were gifts from my dad, as he was somewhat interested in the sport.

*The greatest commentator in history of ANY sport, and don't you even DARE to disagree with ME!* Seriously though, the man was one of a kind, when he was forcibly retired it was for me almost like another unnecessary F1 driver fatality, his voice sounded like the language of the F1 engines if they could have found a way of communicating with us.

I had always been familiar with the Brazilian pronunciation of "ah-EER-ton", so when I recently started watching old F1 broadcasts for the first time, I was amused by Walker's "EHR-ton". And then I watched that 1994 broadcast, and immediately noticed that Walker had switched, but I didn't know that he then switched back after that! It is also ironic that the name Ayrton is of English origin, so arguably "EHR-ton" is correct and the Brazilians corrupted it.
