Fabricating Tracks - Tracked Amphibious Vehicle Build Ep. 19

Күн бұрынFabricating tracks completely from scratch for a homemade tracked amphibious vehicle. The track design is very simple. It consists of custom made steel cleats made out of angle iron and round bar and all cleats bolted on two strips of rubbery conveyor belt. I really don't need to worry about the pitch of the cleats since I don't use any drive cogs which teeth they have to match. The tracks will be driven by rubber tires by friction. There is a small lip on the cleat also to better the bite into the tire tread and avoid slippage. Custom bender had to be made for bending the track guides. Also a couple of jigs for welding were constructed.

Лайк! Сам немного самодельщик, токарь, слесарь, сварщик, столяр, но ... уже старый. Восхищен, что молодой парень, живущий своим хозяйством, такой мастеровой, с руками Золотыми и светлой головой. Some might argue with you on that but I think the same as you do. I did a lot more work than only these 21 minutes worth and that is what I want to share with everyone and especially with those who think about making their own tracks.

Not sure which I'm liking more... the project, the way you work, watching how your mind works on "fabricating" a jig to make something work. I hope you don't burn yourself out. I've seen many young and older people with ingenious minds burn themselves out. I like the fact you're commenting more in your videos as well. This build is coming along quite nicely. Отличная подготовка к каждому этапу сборки, все сделано очень классно, как на мелко-серийном производстве!!! Уважение от инженера! Смущает отсутствие натяжителя гусеницы, при проколе крайнего колеса гусеница обязательно слезет. Также отсутствие подвески как таковой, скажется на комфорте езды и жизненном цикле трансмиссии, в остальном снимаю шляпу перед вашим мастерством.

Love the design. Most DIY tankers go all-metal for the tracks and they are difficult to make work reliably. Also the wear rate makes all-metal kind of unfeasable. This is genious!

A tip for doing productions type work like cutting the guides and angle for the track pads. When cutting, if your saw is able to handle thicker material, cut the main piece into half or quarters and cut 4 at a time. It will make the job of cutting much more efficient than just doing one at a time.

This track system is not my invention. It is really common on most simple tracked vehicles.

You could of at least painted the bolt heads so that the whole world knows that you made it..... or you could just show them the video/LOL. Your certainly picing projects with enough welding , drilling, screwing, making jigs, (you should apply for patent even if it never gets challenged)That is going to be one hell of a logging in the snow and recovery rig! So proud of you. You a bubble short of genius!

I would say using some 1in (25.4mm) strap to make the "washers" and have it the length of one side (so its just one wide washer with the 2 whole in it) would work a treat, but my god drilling the holes would bout drive a man crazy lol. Nice work good sir.

I've gotten the hair up where the sun don't shine as well to eventually make one of my own tracked rigs. Picked up a bunch of 3+ ft wide conveyor belt for free. At probably over 500 combined linear feat let's just say there is enough for MANY rigs & repair sections. One section of belt already has V-cleats. Idea for mine is likely to have a 2-ply system w/ 1/4 to 1/2 overlap for added strength. Cut to width & probably (if I get or build a press) punch out the openings for the drive gear. Use flat bar or angle iron for the pads. If the former than for added traction use pieces of angle iron whether on edge or to form triangular lugs.
